I am interested in downloading my extensive family tree from Ancestry.com, and would very much appreciate member recommendations for software that is easy to use and is compatible with Ancestry.com, and that is capable of downloading not only the tree but photos and scanned documents I've appended to it. Your input will be gratefully received. Thanks.
Carole, I am researching Watson's in Cedar Creek Hundred. My Gr Gr Grandfather Daniel Watson, b. 8/27/1830 , d. 2/26/1914, m. Julia Ann Warren 11/28/1855. They had children; William T.; Mary E.; Sarah E.; Daniel R.; George F.; Burton; Jennie; Charles; Samuel; Joseph; John H.; Lydia; Frank and Annie. Daniel is listed in Cedar Creek Hundred in the 1850 census with his Mother Mary 44; sister Mary E. 28; brothers William 24 and Thomas 21. According to his death certificate, Daniel's parents are listed as Mary Clifton and William Watson. I have data on Julia Ann Warren's family but nothing furthur on William Watson or Mary Clifton. Any light you can shed on them would be appreciated. Jack W. Special Interest >> Group being organized by the Sussex County Genealogical Society (SCGS) in cooperation with the Laurel (DE) Public >> Library..... Please feel free to contact me with any questions, suggestions or comments >> you may have concerning this group. My email address is bbde@verizon.net. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'd like to add me, too, please. My interest is particularly in Broad Creek Hundred, surnames Baker and Smith; Purnal Henry Baker married Sarah Smith. Time frame late 1700s; they moved to Ohio, where their daughter Tensey (Jenny) b. 4-5-1805 Sussex Co, De married Edward Preston Rowen b ~1800 Md or Ohio on 2-28-1824 Pickaway Co, Oh. Edward Rowen's parents were Alexander Rowen & Sarah Grainger, married 1788 in adjoining Dorchester Co, Md. Need parents for Sarah Grainger, Purnal Henry Baker, and proof and ancestry of Thomas Smith and wife, parents of Sarah Smith. These families were intimately connected to the Timmons families there; indeed, Tensey Baker Rowen married a second time after the death of Edward Rowen to brother-in-law Wingate Timmons, whose first wife was Edward Rowen's sister. These families moved mostly to the Tippecanoe Co. area of Indiana, while the Bakers pretty much remained in the counties surrounding Pickaway Co, Oh. I think a lot of people have a vested interest in this; can those of us who live afar help in any way, either by contributing results of research, or monetarily? Thanks! Ruth elmag@netamumail.com

Looking for information about Rachel Paul and her family. I have very little information about her. I am assuming ( that forbidden word ) her name was Rachel Griffith Paul. I summized that information from Dorchester County Genealogical magazine, Vol. 5 - # 6, page 24, March 1986 edition -- Dorchester Wills at Hall of Records. Liber 25, folio 237 Lewis Griffith states his father was Lewis, sister Mary Keen He leaves his possessions to children of Rachel Paul, He list her children as -- Lewis Griffith Paul, Slitor Griffith Paul,Dosier Griffith Paul, Jean ( Jane) Griffith Paul also mentions Mary Paul "supposed daughter of Betty Paul. Also noted " all children were minors" Great Choptank Parish Records. Vol 13, pages 35 and 43, Birth and Bapt. Records shows Slighter Griffith Paul and Rebecca had a daughter Peggy born 1801 and a son Jabus born 1805. Any information will be helpful ! Thanks, Sylvia

Hi Carolyn! I live in IN. & can't get to DE. for the meeting. Will there be a surname file in the library of people researching Sussex County names? I'm researching the Fookes family too. I would certainly like to hear which branches of this extensive tree are being actively researched. My GG Grandfather James Fookes was born 1810, in Worcester County. The best information (a few steps above a guess) is that his parents were Joseph and Anna (Gray) Fookes. This is the Joseph who is mentioned in William Fookes 1774 will as the son of James. I can track from Joseph back in time and feel fairly confident that Anna was the daughter of Jedediah Gray. But I simply cannot find any solid evidence, much less proof, that "my James" was actually the son of Joseph and Anna. Reportedly, James had several siblings, including Levern, Gatty, Morris, Robert, Matilda (married James Powell), and Martha (married James Mumford), along with an additional unidentified sister -- but these are not proven either. Do any of these people ring a bell??? I'd like to hear from anyone looking at the Fookes family. Even if not the individuals named above, it would help to look at all of the extended family.... Don't know which cemetery's are in the books.? I checked my photos of Redman's in Selbyville.? I thought there were some Hall's there but I don't have them in the pictures.? Could be I didn't take pictures since there are no Hall's in my line.? Might also check Roxana.? I am 99.9% sure there are no Hall's in the Wilgus cemetery in Roxana. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Moore <moorejl@gmail.com> To: DE Gen list <Lower-Delmarva-Roots-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, 13 Sep 2008 2:19 pm Subject: [LDR] HALL nr Selbyville Calling all Sussex grave experts: Seeking the gravestones of Albert T Hall (Nov 1865-) and wife Sophia (Jun 1859-) and son Benjamin Franklin Hall (1899-1974) and his wife Daisey (1900-1973). I've never been to the Laural Library but some libraries are giving a vertical file for local family information(history and or geneology.) The members of the DAR are encouraged to submit copies of their approved applications to this type of file. The DAR application to be accepted must have supporting documentation. While the supporting documenation is not attached if there is a contact person you could follow through with that or the DAR headquarters in Washington, DC. Mary in Alabama My line in Sussex Co. is: Culleney/Colony/Warrington/with sibblings of Messick, Tinsdal and Dolby.

I went to a church seeking early records. I was told that at an open house they hosted there was a display of the records. When cleaning up at the end of the day, the earliest book of records was missing. It has not been heard of since. In a message dated 9/12/2008 11:33:40 A.M. Eastern Daylight Time, Johnlyon0@cs.com writes: It's a chronic problem, and always has been. There are notorious stories of even "respected" or "trusted" parties who've walked off deliberately with important original materials, for their own purposes. The National Archives experienced a major theft of original Abraham Lincoln materials in the not-too-distant past, with the stuff ending up sold at auction, the perpetrator brought to justice. Another well-known MD case involved an individual many of you would recognize from his publications, sometimes quoted on this list, who habitually added to his private collections (many years ago). e-Bay is a well-used outlet for such pilferage nowadays. Archival facilities also have to protect against just plain accidental thefts: patrons who bundle up their belongings on the way out the door, and inadvertently take an original document or a book that they've accessed. This is why there are limitations on what one can take in. Then there are the stupid. I once went into an Alabama courthouse to seek an estate record; it was gone, its folder empty. Some years later I was directed to a party in South Carolina who was supposedly knowledgable. He admitted happily that he had the very record I needed; he had been to the courthouse, found the record, and just took it. After all, it was his grampa! He literally could not grasp that he'd stolen anything. He found it and it was his, dagnabit.
