    1. [LDR] Colonial period Given Names for females
    2. List .... If I have posted this question on this list before, my apologies. I have found a given name of a spouse, in a 1741 Sussex Co. will which easily defies my perception(s): The name, as typed (the will was apparently copied, in 1926, from the records @ Georgetown) was: "Tenat" (& then the typist, the editor or someone, wrote in "Senot", probably indicating they weren't sure what it was). I'd be interested in ANY ideas as to what the actual spelling might be. Or maybe that IS the actual spelling? Thanks, Joe Lake

    1. Re: [LDR] Advertising tag on Delmarva List
    2. AOL (and for all I know others) just slaps these things on one's emails. We cannot get rid of them and until we see something we have sent, we don't even know what the garbage of the day is. It is unfortunate, but AOL doesn't really care how we feel about it. On their behalf, please accept my apology. 1. [LDR] LT MD STATE ARCHIVES REPLY
    2. Richard Baer
    3. Lewis Anything you copy on the microfilm reader/printers will cost .50. It could be book pages, obits, death certs, etc. Birth certs are restricted, so usually you will have to take a birth cert number to the staff so they can retreive it for you. You can sometimes find that birth cert number on the appropriate microfilm index. When the staff prints someting for you the price varies from .50 to 10.00, depending on their criteria. The staff is very helpful. Elizabeth has already explained to you the deal w/the marriage applications. Good luck. 1. Re: [LDR] MD STATE ARCHIVES
    2. Maryland did not keep birth or death records until 1898 (except for the city of Baltimore). As for marriages, mostly what still exists for earlier times are the county ledger books. The only information is the name of the groom, the name of the bride and the date of the license. It does not necessarily prove that a marriage actually took place, only that a license was issued. The website cannot possibly list what is on each roll of film, and you would naturally only copy (and pay for) something you actually want or need. 3. I have found that the free PAF program which can be downloaded from the Mormon Church web site (www.family search.org) is very good. However, the very best program is "The Master Genealogist" from Wholly Genes. It does everything and is compatible with everything. It is particularly good in terms of generated reports in a variety of formats. This is the "Gold Standard" of genealogy programs. 3. Judy-- I've used Brother's Keeper since DOS days--its developer, John Steed, is constantly online and helps users solve any problems quickly, unlike some of the more commercial off-the-shelf software packages. You can download a free copy and try it out here: http://www.bkwin.org/index.html Many users worldwide swear by Brother's Keeper, especially for its simplicity and compatability with other software. Everything I've tried with the program, iimporting/exporting gedcoms and so forth, has gone very smoothly; as far as transferring photos and such, I can't say, since I've never changed systems, but I should think it wouldn't be any harder than any other. 3. Hi Jack, There appear to be many William Watson's in Cedar Creek Hundred (it makes my head hurt!!!) I've gone thru all of my Wm Watson's to see if anything would fit the time frame, but can't find anything that gets close to your particular Watson line. I'm sure there's a connection - I just don't have enough data in my tree to connect it. There's probably a common ancestor we share further back in the line. Do you happen to have any Townsends or Manloves going backwards anywhere? If you do, that might help with a connection.
