    3. I have a Levin Milby, who was born prior to 1742. There were several other Levin Milby's after that, but there doesn't appear to have been any other Levin's in the Milby family prior to this one. I have always heard that the name was biblical. 3. Freda, I have an Archibald Smith, but not yours. My Archibald Smith, d. 1729, leaving a Will dated 7 Nov 1729., Sussex Co DE. He apparently lived in Lewes. It says he was a merchant. He named his sister Marey (Mary) wife of Theophilus Simonton, and their 6 children; named his cousin Anne Simonton; named his cousin James Smith who at the time of the writing of the Will, lived with him--gave James his houses, lots and lands within the town of Lewes, and interest in a parcel of land in MD for the iron works; named his cousin Jennet Smith-sister of just named James; named his cousins James Smith and Adam Smith of the Gleve in the Parish of Orney, Barony of Straban, Kingdom of Ireland, 600 acres lying near Green Branch whereon Samuel Samples dwells;; named this cousin James Smith of Ireland to receive his signet ring; named Jane Thomson, dau of the Rev John Thomson; named cousins Anne Magdalen and Mary, daughters of his brother Robert Smith in Ireland; named his sister Rachel Curry in Ireland; named his wife Isabella; named tract of land in Summerset County, MD, called Begrove (?should be Belgrove). being left to me by my UNCLE Robert Perrie; also tract of land called Timber Hill, being in this county (?Sussex); gave to his sister Marey (Mary) present wife of Theophilus Simonton, the tract of land now belonging to me that was formerly James Barrs; witnesses to the Will: John Shankland; William Molleston and Phil Russel. I know Archibald was a popular first name, but do any of the people listed above connect to your Archibald Smith? How was Uncle Robert Perrie related to Archibald Smith? Does anyone know when and where Archibald Smith came to the colonies, who were his parents, does he descend from Smith previously in the colonies? What was his wife, Isabella's maiden name? Can anyone direct me as to how to find the location of these tracts of lands mentioned in Archibald Smith's Will- Begrrove or Belgrove; Timber Hill; the Iron Works in MD; the land previously owned by James Barrs. I descend from Theophilus and Marey Smith Simonton. Thanks.... 2. Miller's Choice
    3. Sorry, Marjorie; I have no idea where he lived.  He owned quite a bit of land per his will: John Henry made his will 21 April 1781, devising to son John tract Henrys Addition to Western, Cow Quarter and Marsh Meadow; to son Francis Jenkins Henry lands in Worcester County; to son Rider Henry tract Spring Hill, tract Gillys Delight and lands in Dorchester County, Pasture Neck where Benjamin and Joseph Cox live, Henrys Addition to Pasture Neck, two lots in Vienna Town, Lots 6 and 35; to son Robert Henry tract Riders Forest, and tract lying on Chickason in Indian Town, 450 acres of Harwell, Holly Swamp, Hog Range, Addition to Holly Swamp, Security, Greens Lott purchased of John Cope; five daughters Charlotte Winder, Kiturah Henry, Dolly Henry, Nancy Henry, Sarah Henry; to Esther Mahoon who has long lived in my family; a cypress swamp called Second Choice to the sons of David Johnson who surveyed it with me; friends Henry Steele, James Morris, Charles Morris to advise family (EB1:147).     According to a biography of Gov. John Henry, son of Capt/Col. John Henry, he was born in 1750 at Weston on the Nanticoke River in Dorchester County, so his father evidently had removed from Somerset/Worcester by then.   Surely someone on the list is related to this political family and may be able to answer the question.   Becky M on the frozen Manokin ________________________________ From: marjorie adams <marjea@wildblue.net> To: lower-delmarva-roots@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2009 12:54:35 PM Subject: Re: [LDR] Capt John Henry Thanks Becky, Do you known where he lived in Somerset/Worcester?

    3. Elizabeth is correct.  I think if one peruses the index cards to death certificates at http://mdvitalrec.net/cfm/dsp_seriesunit.cfm?qu=SE&sr=7&tp=d&src=co&it=cards, one can see that compliance for Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset doesn't begin meeting reasonable expectations until about 1912.  Folks on the lower Shore have always been resistant to change, particularly "guvmint" imposed, as edicts such as this usually have an associated fee (read: tax), currently $25 for each official copy.  One of my greatgrandfathers died in Somerset County in 1913 and does not have a death certificate.  His obit reported he had a lingering illness and I've always wondered what that was as by the time I found the obit anyone who may have known about the nature of the illness was long deceased.  Another greatgrandfather died in 1918 and has no death certificate but his wife, who died in 1909, does. My father was born in 1903 and did not have a birth certificate.  By the time he needed one, I recall he said he was enlisting in the Navy for WWII; fortunately the midwife who assisted the doctor was still alive and provided an affidavit as to his year of birth. His family moved up the Delmarva and is widely connected. Surely the earliest Levin on Delmarva was the Quaker Levin Denwood of Accomack and Northampton (b. 1603, per Torrence), whose son Levin came to Monie in Somerset ca 1665 with other Quaker exiles from VA, inspiring in-family namings of Levin Covington, Levin Gale, etc. It appears in many, many Somerset famiiies. It's now at: http://nabbhistory.salisbury.edu/settlers/resources/warrant.html The Parsons citations (above and in your other messsage) are from "Francis Jenkins' warrant book", which was his personal rundown of work in the 1670s and early 1680s, often including things which were never actually completed, for whatever reason. Things like SPITTLEFIELDS, and the other unnamed one over on New Haven, never became real. The Jenkins volume is interesting for these glimpses into items that appear nowhere else. But unless one encounters a corresponding official record in the holdings of the Archives, what one finds in Jenkins' notes is often just a curiosity. John
