ah well.....thanks for asking LOL - here they are and all I believe are contiguous: End of Dispute(left to John Davis by James Johnson 1762 and some sold to him by Ann Gascoine, also a legatee of James Johnson), Riley's Portion (purchased of James Truit and later sold off by descendant of John Davis), Teagues Folly (purchased of John Bennett by John Davis (Mill) , Hoq Quarter (one of the million but this one patented by John Davis 1764 -1774 and added to a total of 188 acres), 20 acres Johnsons Industry (from Ann gascoine to John Davis) Pleasant Grove (bought from Wm. Jarman 1774) and part of Tribulation bought at sheriff's sale in about 1801. All owned by one-three John Davis' in a 50 year period. And while you are at it is Durham House anywhere near any of this land? Sorry I'm getting greedy. I am trying to track this John Davis line: It seems to begin probably with an early 1. John Davis who married Martha Givens the widow of John Reed. She dies 1783 with a will as Martha Davis. Names son John Davis and grandson James Davis. 2.John Davis II with unknown wife known as John Davis Mill (1783 acquango tax list). He appears to die around 1783 and has a son John Davis executor. Orphans court issues with distribution of the estate of John Reed who died way back in the 1740's. 3. John Davis III who sells much of the above land and appears to die 1812 with a part of Pleasant Grove and Tribulation as part of a land cause and who in 1809 describes himself in a deed as of Quepongo. Not a single sale by these John Davis' mention any wife signing off on the deeds. They all died intestate as well! I am interested in any information on John M. Johnson (1853- ), son of Samuel Johnson (1800-1860) and Elizabeth Lynch ( c.1819-aft.1870), brother of Samuel J. Johnson (1855-1921). He was probably born around Taylorsville, Worcester, MD. Married Lavinia Mitchell (c. 1855- ), daughter of Rufus W. Mitchell and Gatty F. Dennis, in 1875. He and his wife lived in Ocean City in 1880 where he was a bar tender. In 1900, his family lived in Newark, which now included Mary (b. 1882), Moses C. (b. 1885), Andrew J. (b. 1892), Henry L. (b. 1894), and Olivia B. (b. 1896).

Sinepuxent is located just off Rt. 611 to the west. Sinepuxent Rd. is a side road of Rt. 611. It is now a small rural community. Rt. 611 is the road that Frontier Town is located. It also takes you to Assatiegue Island. Ellen Scott

Note that some Veach family or families moved to SW PA and/or northern WV by the early 1800s, along with other families from Sussex and Kent Counties, DE (see Carol's post concerning Magdalen Willey's daughter Nancy, for example). Sometimes a name occurring frequently as a will and/or deed witness was the one who actually wrote the document -- the scrivener -- someone in a given neighborhood who was literate and had copies of the "boilerplate" will/deed model(s). Search Google books for the text of Scharf. However, though Scharf mentions people in relationship to their historical roles he does not include family relationships, i.e., genealogies. While we are all looking for Veaches I am looking for Clement Willey Veach b abt 1790 son of Nancy Willey and an unknown Veach and any information on who Nancy married. Clement and Nancy are mentioned in her mother Margaret Willey's [widow of Absalom Willey] will written in 1797 in Sussex De. . But only Nancy is mentioned in Margaret's second will written in 1816 in Monongalia Va. Any clues are helpful Carol

Walt, Just wondered if you know of a Robert West who lived in Sussex County, DE, in 1832. He and Garrett Layton signed a $200 marriage bond on 7/5/1832 for Zachariah Carey and Nancy Carpenter. In 1830 Zachariah Carey was living in Nanticoke Hundred in Sussex County. This may possibly be a 2nd marriage for him, or perhaps he had a son with the same name. Thanks... s/Helen Helen Carey In a message dated 8/29/2010 4:15:51 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: Hi, I believe the Sarah who marrried William Collins was Sarah Derickson. The John West who married Ann Collins is likely the son of Thomas West(c1700-1761), son of Thomas West(d1708) of West's Recovery. While I can't definitively prove it yet, the William West who is brother to the Thomas of 1708, is likely my line leading down through a son William to my 4th great grandfather Kendle West. That relationship fits in with the letter which Amos West wrote to Kendle West in which he referrred to Kendle as "cousin". Amos(father Elijah) is from the Thomas West(d1708) line thru George, brother to Thomas and William. That would make him second cousin to Kendle West. Walt West
