    3. Dear Ruth Congratulations on your excellent research so far. You have already clearly traced your family back to James Lovelock and Hannah Newman who were married in 1780 at Crondall in Wiltshire. That's not a bad effort for someone who says they're new to family history. Of course you did have a big head start with the excellent website that James Loveluck has put together and the wonderful research by all the Lovelock family historians involved who are so freely sharing information. It rarely happens that way, so you are very fortunate. I had a look to see if I could see a baptism of James say abt 1759 or earlier in the Crondall area. This baptism in Crondall caught my eye: 1763 Dec 5 Mary d. James & Martha Lovelock This could conceivably be a sibling. The fact that James and Martha had no other children baptised in Crondall, probably indicates that they baptised other children in a parish nearby - or were non-conformists eg Baptists. It would be very unusual in those days to have only one child. This burial is likely the burial of Hannah Newman at Crondall: 1822 Jul 17 Hannah Lovelock, 63, wife of James, Crookham She would then have been born abt 1759. So her husband James may have been born a couple of years before then, say 1757. Crookham may be a clue. Crookham is of course in Berkshire not far from Thatcham. On the border of the two counties, adjacent Hampshire. But a fair way from Crondall I think. Perhaps others on the list can advise. If I were you, I'd be looking for James' baptism in parishes around Crondall: Yately, Aldershot, Bentley, Froyle, Long Sutton, Odiham, Dogmersfield, Winchfield, Elvetham. Not all these parishes have been searched, or, even where they have, the relevant years haven't been. However, this looks a very good possibility: Long Sutton Baptisms There are baptisms in the IGI: 1756 May 2 James s. James Lovelock & Martha Tillman 1757 Nov 27 Martha d. James Lovelock & Martha Tillman 1759 May 20 William s. James Lovelock & Martha Tillman This marriage looks good: Long Sutton Marriages (Phillimores Marriage Index) *1755 Dec 1 James Lovelock and Martha Tillman These baptisms look good too: Dogmersfield Baptisms 1695-1911 (PR) Kindly supplied by Mike and Alison Turner 1761 May 20 Elizabeth d. James & Martha Lovelock 1765 Dec 29 Job s. James & Martha Lovelock 1772 Jun 21 Hannah d. James Lovelock and Martha Let's see what others on the list think?
