Hi Maureen Saw your query on the Lovelock list. Thought I'd try and find for you the baptism of Thomas Wicks in Wiltshire abt 1857 using the new Mormon CDs out on Vital Records British Isles( 2nd edition). The closest I could find was: WIX, Thomas Christening Gender: Male Birthplace: Wootton Rivers, Wilts, Eng Christening Date: 30 May 1858 Recorded in: Wootton Rivers, Wiltshire, England Father: George WIX Mother: Louisa Source: FHL Film 1279365 Dates: 1728 - 1906 The name WICKS of course lends itself to a variety of spellings - so in a time when few could spell, you'll need to check out variant spellings. I also checked for the marriage of Thomas Wicks to Martha Lovelock, probably abt 1877. But no luck, alas. Without the marriage and hopefully the name of his father, it will be difficult to know if any WICKS baptism is the right one. I note that the marriage detail (from the LDS Vital Records 1st edition) provides no father's name. Possibly she was illegitimate. You really need to check the marriage detail from the actual parish register - not just the index. However, I also checked for any baptisms of Elizabeth Maslen in Wiltshire abt 1839. There's a couple of possibilities: MASLEN, Elizabeth Christening Gender: Female Christening Date: 25 Mar 1832 Recorded in: Upavon, Wiltshire, England Father: John MASLEN Mother: Ann Source: FHL Film 1239309 Dates: 1687 - 1875 MASLEN, Elizabeth Christening Gender: Female Christening Date: 27 Aug 1835 Recorded in: Wanborough, Wiltshire, England Father: Robert MASLEN Mother: Mary Source: FHL Film 1279303 Dates: 1664 - 1839 But without linking information you won't know whether any are correct. I assume that James Lovelock who married Elizabeth Maslen is James Lovelock born in Pewsey in 1839, son of James Lovelock and Hannah Eyles on the Lieflock Lovelock line. I did not have this connection but it seems to fit ok. Do we have any other siblings of Martha Lovelock d. James Lovelock and Elizabeth Maslen? I also note that I don't have any Lovelock baptisms for Pewsey before 1842. However, I have noted that this information comes from Graham Lovelock. So perhaps he has earlier baptisms? If so, I'd like to include them in the compiled vital records for Wiltshire - if you don't mind please Graham? I'd also like to trace your descent from James Lovelock and Elizabeth Maslen. That is, if you don't mind sharing this information. It might come in handy in trying to help others who may be researching your line in New Zealand. Maureen's suggestion of checking census for Wiltshire is also an excellent idea. You'll probably need to get along to your local Mormon Family History Centre to do that. Best wishes Robert
