A very Happy New Year to all theLovelock listers! Many thanks Allen for the info on the wife Catherine Powell of David Emmanuel Marendaz. However, this doesn't clear up the mystery about Catherine Marendaz which I mention in my "Open Question No. 6". The MI states that Catherine "died July 11th 1836 aged 37 years" (this would have Catherine b abt 1799). However, the 1881 census has Catherine still living at Ty Draw and records her age as 76 (b abt 1805) birthplace Balas, GLA. And in the 1891 census she is still at Ty Draw farm, age 86 (b abt 1805). These records also agree with the information in the article by A. Leslie Evans, "The Marendaz and Thomas Families of Glamorgan", in which he states: "His [D.E. Marendaz'] widow, Catherine (nee Powell?), continued to farm Tydraw and was buried at Holy Cross on March 4, 1893, her age being 86." All this is in contradiction with the MI. So could it be that David Emmanuel Marendaz married a second time, again to a Catherine, after the death of his first wife Catherine née Powell?
