I found out about this in the article by A. Leslie Evans "The Marendaz and Thomas Families of Glamorgan", which contains the following phrase: "It seems likely that the John Loveluck Marendaz, a traveller for the Evan Evans' Brewery at Neath, who embezzled his employer's money in 1843, was a brother to Francis" [You'll find a copy of Leslie Evans' article on the Loveluck Web pages, under Documents->Marendaz & Thomas Families.] Captain DMK Marendaz (g grandson of DE Marendaz junior) was obviously embarrassed by this wayward ancestor, since in a reply to Leslie Evans' article he wrote: "No one of my family have heard of another son or John Lovelock Marendaz, nether has any descendants ever been heard of such a man, or his place of baptism, marriage or burial" [I got a copy of this document from the NLW] I hope Allen and I don't bore the other listers with our Glamorgan tales!
