    3. Many thanks Mike and Alison for your contribution. I have forwarded a copy to James Lovelock in Cornwall. I am sure he will be delighted to discover the Lovelock Listers have traced his lineage back to 1780. I was alerted to the reference to Winchfield in Hampshire and so my wife Alison extracted the following from her files (most, if not all of which should be on the website). Mike and Alison Turner DETAILS AS FOLLOWS Re James Lovelock born 1832 in Winchfield, son of Richard and Hannah Lovelock. It seems likely he is the James you are looking for and the census age is wrong. There are no other James Lovelocks baptised in Winchfield. James's father, Richard, was baptised in Crondall, Hampshire on 7th July 1791 together with his brother Daniel. They were the sons of James Lovelock and Hannah Newman (marr.Jun 13 1780 Crondall) Richard married Hannah Hounson in Crondall on Apr 10 1819. Both Richard and Daniel ended up in Winchfield. 1841 Census Winchfield Richard Lovelock 45 agr. lab Hannah Lovelock 40 Susan Lovelock 20 Samuel Lovelock 15 William Lovelock 13 David Lovelock 10 Mary Ann Lovelock 4 Selina Lovelock 2 There's also a James aged 8 in Winchfield, not with his family. (this part of the census was almost illegible, so I didn't record who he was living with.) 1851 census Winchfield Richard Loblock 60 agr. lab. b. Crondall Anna Loblock 54 b. Binsted James Loblock 18 b. Winchfield Mary Ann Loblock 14 b. Winchfield Selina Loblock 11 b. Winchfield 1861 Census Winchfield Richard Lovelock wid. 68 lab Hannah Lovelock was buried in Winchfield on Oct 1 1853 aged 55 Richard Lovelock was buried on Nov 1 1870 aged 78 Re marriage of James Lovelock there is a marriage in Basingstoke 1859 Dec quarter. This seems likely as his wife Rachael (1881 census) was born in Hook near Basingstoke and the date fits well with their children's ages. ********************************************************************* > Hello John, > > I think I found the family in the 1881 census, living at Kiln House, > Charlton, Berks. > > The date of birth of Tom A(rthur) Lovelock is given as 1874, which is > close to what James stated.
