I have lots of Lovelock queries resulting from browsing the mass of information on the Lovelock website but for this email will keep it to one query! I am descended directly from the Martin & Anne Lovelock who had two children baptised at All Saints, Swallowfield namely Elizabeth bapt. 22 Nov 1696 and Martin bapt. 26 Nov 1699. Elizabeth married Jonathon Lewington and it is from this marriage I can claim descent. Martin (2), a fairly uncommon forename among the Lovelock families, married (I think) Elizabeth TURNER in Heckfield in 1727 and had several children, including another Martin in 1728. It looks like Martin (3) married Elizabeth POULTER in Winchfield in 1751 and had Martin (4) in 1752 who in turn produced a Martin (5) in 1775 following marriage to Mary HEATH at Heckfield in 1774. There are no further Martin Lovelocks to be found in the baptism records on the Lovelock website but I am wondering if anyone else has an interest in this branch and can (a) confirm my possible tree above and (b) add to the family line TIA -- John Lewis <jayellatntlworlddotcom> from Bournemouth, Dorset, UK. using Debian GNU/Linux and GeneWeb genealogy software
I can't help with John's enquiry, but I thought I would just mention that my brother's name is Martin, so it has not been entirely abandoned. We have no other Martins in our ancestry so I have no idea where my parents got the idea from.
