Hi Graham Great to hear from you again and welcome to the Lovelock list. I'm in Australia and (as I think you already know - can't remember if we discussed this) am the second cousin of Gwen Eastment nee Lovelock whom I believe you once had some correspondence. Gwen is one of the original Lovelock researchers along with Janet Hearle. They started some thirty years ago!! About all they had then was what the family could tell them and the IGI. So we've come a long way since then! The Lovelock list is amazingly active for a relatively unusual surname. I look forward to your future postings. I thought your question re Jewish sounding names is a good one and I'm not really sure. But I've never come across a Lovelock Jewish connection and suspect, as you suggest, those names were just a fad at the time. Whatever happened to all those 'Crystals' and 'Waterfalls' and 'Rainbows' of the 80s, I wonder? Perhaps others on the list have some ideas. I have just spent a day at the Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney (I live about 1 and a half to 2 hours out of Sydney in the foothills of the Blue Mountains) and have collected some further Lovelock primary data. I'm still working on Lovelocks in London and Middlesex. As you will recall from James Loveluck's recent posting, he has uploaded my latest effort at bringing together primary data (mainly births/baptisms, marriages and deaths/burials) for London and Middlesex. This includes the IGI (downloaded from the LDS website) plus the published transcripts of London and Middlesex parish records by the Harleian Society (conveniently surname indexed and also now available on CD-ROM), plus Pallot Index (now also conveniently available on CD-ROM), plus Boyd's Marriage Index (Miscellaneous) and the LDS Vital Records British Isles (2nd Edition). Yesterday I completed extracting Lovelocks from the last of the Harleian Society publications plus Boyd's Marriage Index Main Series for London and Middlesex. I also started but did not complete checking Phillimore's Marriages for Middlesex vols 1-9 (now also available on CD-ROM and finally searchable!) Will complete next time I'm at SAG. SAG unfortunately don't have Boyd's London Burials so will have to order in films from LDS - unless any of the members of the Lovelock list feel like a trip to the Society of Genealogists in London who have these on microfilm there. There's quite a lot of indexing coming out on CD-ROM now - as I'm sure many of you will know. Here's a sample of what SAG has of interest: Wiltshire 1871 census Hampshire Burial Index 1400-1837 Berkshire Phillimores Marriages Vols 1-2 Surrey Poor Law Index and Calendar (for ALL non-metropolitan parishes - quite an achievement by the West Surrey Family History Society who seem to be particularly active!) I extracted Lovelocks for the Surrey Poor Law CD. Will send to James for inclusion on website when typed up. Mostly Removal Orders. Great to see these being transcribed and indexed as they're very slow to work through in the original form of parish papers. The Berkshire FHS has done much the some for that county - already on Lovelock website. Wonderful resources. I'm really looking forward very much to the Lovelock gathering at Hungerford in 2004 and finally meeting so many Lovelock researchers personally. What a gathering it will be! I'm planning on also spending quite a bit of time at SOG and the PRO in London while I'm over there. It's a long way from Australia and I'm certainly going to make the most of the available opportunity of accessing all those wonderful English archives! Anyone else planning along similar lines? Best wishes to you all and happy hunting!!!
