I received a telephone call from a reporter on the Newbury Weekly News yesterday to say that a lady had approached the local branch of the Royal British Legion with a letter written in 1917 by Harry George Lovelock's Commanding Officer informing his mother Elizabeth Lovelock that he had been killed in action. Apparently Harry George Lovelock is commemorated on the Newbury War Memorial and received the Distinguished Service Medal. The lady would like to pass this letter on to Harry's family. The reporter mentioned that according to the 1901 Census Elizabeth was living at Avon View Newbury ( age 19 ). The Commonwealth War Graves Commission Web Site indicates that Harry was a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery, died on the 4th December 1917 and is buried at the Nine Elms British Cemetery in Belgium. Is anyone on The List related to Harry? Best Wishes John Lovelock Hedgerley Buckinghamshire
