In the Autumn of 1998 I visited Athlone in Ireland and contacted the local library seeking assistance in finding the birthplace of my father ( George William Lovelock ) in this Midlands town beside the River Shannon. The Librarian was extremely helpful and I found the cottages I was looking for. I was also given a photocopy from an Index Book of family names which included one entry for Lovelock as follows:. LOVELOCK 1619 Samuel, gent. grantee lease of Weir on Shannon (Patent) wife, Elinor a 'life' My Irish connections are very brief as my Grandfather served there in the British Army and three of his children were born in Eire before he returned to the UK. However this entry might mean something to someone on The List. Best Wishes John Lovelock Hedgerley Buckinghamshire
