Hi Sally The film of Vernham Dean, Hampshire has finally come in. (LDS #1041219) The film contains Baptisms 1598-1653, Marriages 1607-1653 and Burials 1598-1629. I have so far searched the Baptisms and Burials. The interest for me was to what extent the IGI actually covered the baptisms. People often assume that the IGI covers all the events of a particular parish - at least for baptisms and/or marriages. This is despite the fact that the intro to the IGI itself warns researchers against using the IGI as a final reference. We know that the IGI does not normally contain burials. But were the baptisms in this early period complete? As it turned out they were not. This is not of course a criticism of the IGI. But this little exercise certainly reinforces the need to check parish registers and not to rely completely on the IGI. Righto! That's enough of my soapbox for one email. Here's the results of my search so far. Marriages next time. (Interestingly this parish register contains some quite early Lovelock events right on the boundary with Berkshire and Wiltshire. Can anyone find any new connections to known Lovelock lines?) Best wishes Robert Baptisms 1598-1653 1600 Aug 23 Jonne the Daughter of John Lovlocke was baptised the xxiii of August 1600 1601 Sep 4 Margaret Lyvelock the daughter of John Lyvelock was baptised the fourth day of September 1604 Feb 14 Dorothy the Daughter of John Livelocke was baptised the xiv daye of ffebruary 1607 DEc 23 Joane Lyvelock the daughter of John Lyvelock was baptised the xxiiith day of Decemb. 1621 Sep 23 Richard Livelock the sonne of Christopher Livelock was baptised the xiii day of September 1623 Apr 19 Margery Livelocke the daughter of Christopher Livelocke was baptised the xixth of Aprill 1624 Feb 17 Mary Livlocke the Daughter of Christopher Livlocke was baptised the xviithe day of ffebruary 1626 Jan 13 Will Livlocke the son of Christopher Livlocke was baptised the xiiith day of Januarii 1632 Aug 5 John Livelock the sonne of Christopher Livelock was baptised the vth of August 1634 May 4(?) I will not check these records unless someone is particularly interested in any of those parishes in the period covered. PS The film is faint and difficult to read in places.
