    3. Hi all I have now discovered that if you search for the IGI alone (by clicking on left side of search engine) and not All Resources, you get the second search window and in turn the Wales Lovelucks. And yes - there are 76 Lovelock/lucks in Wales. However, there are none unfortunately in the counties of Flintshire or Denbighshire. Mostly in Glamorgan. By the way, I could not get the 'counties' field to work at all. I just get an error message. Most peculiar. Best wishes Robert

    3. I think I may have found the problem. I finally got on to the LDS site and had a fiddle about. I discovered that if you simply use the first search engine that pops up and enter Wales as the country you get nothing. However, if you search for England and when you get your first names downloaded (none being from Wales) and then click the Refine search button, you get a different search window which allows you to specify the county. If you then enter Wales, it produces the Loveluck names. However, when I tried to repeat this search, I couldn't get back up this second search window which allows searching by counties - which would be very handy. In fact I've never seen it before. I only kept getting the first search window which steadfastly refuses to devulge any Lovelucks at all in Wales. Something very strange going on here. I will send to the LDS list and see what they make of it. Very odd. Perhaps there's something wrong with my browser. Could a few of you please try the LDS site: www.familysearch.org and see if you can bring up any Lovelucks in Wales? I'd be most interested to see how you fare. Best wishes Robert Sterry

    3. Thanks Allen for double checking. But I'm curious why the LDS site indicated there were none? I've just tried again and can't get on at all so site must be busy or down. I must admit I was a bit dubious when I got zero hits. I even double checked England to be sure it was working correctly and they all came up ok. Any ideas? I'm sure they'd like to know if their engine wasn't working correctly or intermittently or whatever - and for that matter so would I as I use their site quite a lot and often don't double check the fiche. Cheers Robert > I have checked IGI Site and there over 70 hits for LOVELUCKS IN WALES. > > Regards Allen in Aberavon

    2. Hello Robert, I only use the I.G.I. to search, you will then get same results every time. >From initial page, choose from list on the left. Other searches are usefull to me , but only as a guide, as with it all if it comes to that. Best Regards Allen in Aberavon.

    3. Hi Malcolm Bagshot is mentioned as being part of Shalbourne in my book on Wiltshire Place names. Also, Bagshot is not mentioned as a parish on a map of Wiltshire Parishes. 3. Malcolm (and all) Bagshot has never been a parish - it is little more than a hamlet, just a little downstream (in a more or less northerley direction) from Shalbourne. It does have either a chapel or small church, but it is so long since I was there that I can not remember which. The stream is un-named, rises not much above Shalbourne and eventually has been engineered to feed the Kennet and Avon canal just west of Hungerford. On some old maps the hamlet was the site of a mill, sometimes referred to as BUGSHOT Mill. The place has been around a while though, because it got a mention in the Domesday Book. 1. Graham's comments on the Lieflock line
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Some of you may remember that some months ago we (especially Graham and Robert) had a lively discussion about the "Lieflock Line" (see the page "Wiltshire Fragments" in the "Fragments" section of the Web pages). Graham has pointed out that one set of comments did not get included on the Web page. I have now corrected this omission, and you will find it linked to the page referred to above - there is also a direct link on the "What's New" page. My apologies to Graham for this negligence! 1. Still More Lovelocks in the GRO
    2. Robert Sterry
    3. Hi all Having been sent lots more Lovelock GRO entries by Graham Lovelock and James Loveluck pointing out that John Dixon had also put together a very extensive Loveluck GRO database that was already on the Loveluck website that I might like to incorporate, I have been rather busy typing! The latest version of the Lovelock GRO database now stands at 2493 entries. Sending to James as usual. Email me separately if you would like your own copy. Best wishes Robert PS Any more GRO stuff out there please? PPS Please bear in mind there are still lots of gaps and undoubtedly typing and interpretation errors so please use with caution until it can be rechecked.

    1. Lovelock GRO records
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've added to the Web pages the Lovelock extracts from the GRO which Robert provided. Robert's data was originally in the form of an MS Access file, but I'm not sure whether everyone has MS Access, so I've converted the data to both HTML and Excel formats. If anyone would like the original MS Access file, Robert or I would be pleased to provided it. The complete HTML file took quite a while to load, so I've split it into 3 files (births marriages and deaths) which take a little bit less time to load. The files are available from the page: Sources -> General and are also linked to the "What's New" page. Regards, James

    1. Updated files on the Web pages
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've updated two files to include the latest revisions from Robert: 9-Sep-01: Updated the file Lovelocks from Hampshire by Parish to the latest version provided by Robert Sterry. This version includes records recently extracted for Vernham Dean 9-Sep-01: Updated the file Lovelocks in Wiltshire by parish to the latest version provided by Robert Sterry. This version includes MIs and Apprenticeship records for Lovelocks in Wiltshire, provided by Malcolm Lovelock. The MIs are mostly post 1900 and the Apprenticeships are mainly for Wootton Rivers. The Wiltshire file has, as usual, been "sanitised" to eliminate potentially living individuals. (Complete version available on demand from Robert or myself). Regards, James

    2. Robert Sterry
    3. Hi All Now I'm sure you have all been wondering why I'd been so quiet the last few days haven't you? Well, I've been busy typing up 1129 Lovelock birth, death and marriage events from the GRO (the old St Catherine House index). I have combined what I inherited from cousin Gwen together with data bases kindly supplied by Alison Turner and Graham Lovelock. Its far from complete of course but not a bad start all the same. Mostly from 1837 to the 1880s. Hopefully one day I can persuade one or two of you to help me complete it. In the meantime, what we have will hopefully be a useful resource. As usual I will send to James to place somewhere on the Lovelock website. Email me separately if you want your copy direct. I have used Access 2000 for the database so if you have an earlier version of Access or do not have Access at all, I can send it in a variety of other formats. Please let me know what format you would like. Best wishes Robert

    1. Wot I did on my 'olidays
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, In addition to other holiday activities, I found a little time during my (second) summer holiday to make a couple of additions to the Lovelock Web pages. Details from the "What's New" page are as follows: 24-Aug-01: Added extracts for Lovelock and related names from the Nimrod Index - 1851 Wiltshire Census (Excel format, HTML format) 23-Aug-01: Added a new page for Glamorgan to the Sources section. Currently this includes: - Lovelock/Loveluck extracts from the IGI for Glamorgan - Loveluck MIs for the Abbey Church of St Mary's Margam and St. Mary Magdalene's Parish Church, Mawdlam, Kenfig. - Glamorgan census extracts for Loveluck and related families For the Nimrod 1851 census extracts, I've included all entries on the paper copy (which was provided my Gwen Eastment via Robert Sterry) for Lovelock, Lovelocke and Loveluck, including those where the head of the household has one of these names. However, I have not included entries which were on the paper copy for names such as Lovell, Loveridge, Lovesey, etc., which I don't believe are related to the Lovelock name. I've provided versions of the listing in both HTML and Excel formats. The latter is useful of one wants to reorder the entries. The default is sorted on name, parish then house code. Concerning the Glamorgan sources, many of you are aware that I have additional material on my Glamorgan Loveluck branch, which is not publicly accessible. The reason for this is that some of the information was gathered privately from various members of the Loveluck family (notably by Janet Hearle, née Loveluck) who may not have intended their information to be widely diffused. However, I also have quite a lot of material which has been obtained from parish or public records, and I have decided to "liberate" such material by linking it to the Lovelock Web pages (I trust that everyone will accept Loveluck as a legitimate variant on the Lovelock name!) I shall probably add other material as I identify suitable candidates. Regards, James
