Hello all, Malcolm and Robert have been making amazing progress with their extraction of Lovelock BMD records from the GRO, and I have now updated the files on the corresponding Web page using a version of their database sent to me on 3 Feb. The data is available from the page Sources -> General (also linked to the "What's New" page) as an Access database, Excel file, or 3 separate HTML files for births, deaths and marriages. There were almost 6000 entries in this database (Malcolm tells me that this figure has already increased to over 6300 entries). However, following my usual practise I have "sanitised" the data to eliminate individuals who are possibly still living. The complete database (Access or Excel format) can be provided on request to myself, Robert or Malcolm. Please note that although every effort has been made to avoid errors, complete accuracy cannot be guaranteed when transcribing such a large number of extracts from films, some of which are in poor condition. Many thanks to Malcolm and Robert for undertaking this huge task. Let me remind you that they would welcome any help from volunteers who have access to the GRO! Regards, James
Hi Graham Thanks for the feedback. I had a look at the Berkshire Commercial Directories held by the Oxfordshire Record Office on Saturday. The first mention of Newtown Lodge is in Kelly's Directory 1848 Residents were: James Thring COXE and Mrs COXE. James COXE appears again in 1863 Dutton Allen & Co Directory. In the 1869 Post Office Directory the resident is Charles Joubert De la Ferte Esq. No entry in Mercer & Crockers Directory 1873 but James Thring COXE reappears in the 1877 Post Office Directory and also in Kelly's 1883, 1887, 1891 and 1895. In 1907 Kelly's Captain Arnold Charles Burmester JP appears and is also listed in 1915, 1920 and 1924. In Kelly's 1931 the name Lovelocks appears for the first time with Captain Burmester listed - also appears in Kelly's 1935 & 1939. As for Eddington House: 1830 Pigot & Co Directory Francis LOVELOCK Evington ( Eddington? ) Edward MOUNT Edington 1863 Dutton Allen & Co Francis Lovelock COXE Eddington House also 1869 Post Office Directory, 1873 Mercer & Crockers and 1877 Post Office Directory. In 1891 Kelly's Eddington House was occupied by Col Gerrard Paul TOWNSEND and in 1895 by Edward Robert PORTAL JP. No doubt most will have noticed that the IGI records that a Francis Lovelock, the son of Edward and Anne, was baptized at Hungerford on 9 April 1751. Presumably this is the man to whom the Drawing Room mantelpiece at Lovelocks House is dedicated. We also have a mention of the Will of Edward Lovelock, dated 1780, that mentions property at Newtown. This is clearly the house in question. Could it be that the Berminster/Beaminster family discovered some information on this earlier owner and thought the name sounded nice! Greetings Lovelock researchers from a relatively new kid on the block. I have for some time been curious by the name Lovelocks that appears on the Ordnance Survey map about 3 miles north of the town of Hungerford and have just made contact with the current owner. Can anyone shed any more light on the history of this building or a possible connection with the Coxe family at Eddington House? I have checked the information provided by the Hungerford Historical Association and the owner of the property in the 1930's and 40's was a retired Army Captain ( Captain Bermeister ). The church that has a stained glass window of the house is in Shefford Woodlands not Woodford. Any additional information would be gratefully received. Hi All I decided to check the IGI on the LDS site for Lovelocks in Lyneham. There are over 2000 Lovelocks in the IGI for England. Graham has already found the following on the LDS Family Search site, all Lyneham: Jacob Lovelock baptized 19 Nov 1809 son of George and Jane Jacob Lovelock baptized 22 Nov 1812 son of George and Jane Jacob Lovelock married Anna Merrit 29 Oct 1836 George Lovelock baptized 1 Oct 1837 son of Jacob and Anna Jacob Lovelock baptized 31 May 1846 son of Jacob and Anna The IGI contained the following Lovelocks in Lyneham, Wiltshire: Baptisms 1808 Jan 17 Mary d. George and Jane Lovelock 1809 Nov 19 Jacob s. George and Jane Lovelock 1811 Apr 21 Stephen s. George and Jane Lovelock 1812 Nov 22 Jacob s. George and Jane Lovelock 1815 Apr 2 Daniel s. Perhaps there are anomolies in the LDS search engine as I have discovered previously. However, that means I really need to recheck Lovelocks in the IGI for Wiltshire since there may be others that I previously also missed. Unless the LDS is still updating the IGI on-line - but I doubt it? It would probably be worth checking the actual Parish Register for Lyneham as it appears that the IGI extractions only started abt 1808 and of course burials won't be included in the IGI. Some of the entries above, certainly the ones 'abt', are obviously submissions from personal family histories not extractions from the actual PRs. So we have no idea as to their accuracy. Sadly none of the entries above appear to relate to any of the entries that John Gough gave from the family bible. But perhaps they were only born in Lyneham and baptised elsewhere. However, the Thomas George baptism: 1833 Apr 14 Thomas George s. George and Jane Lovelock would appear to relate to the George Lovelock that James Loveluck is interested in from the 1881 census. All the best Robert Sterry
James et al The LDS Family Search site provides the following, all Lyneham: Jacob Lovelock baptized 19 Nov 1809 son of George and Jane Jacob Lovelock baptized 22 Nov 1812 son of George and Jane Jacob Lovelock married Anna Merrit 29 Oct 1836 George Lovelock baptized 1 Oct 1837 son of Jacob and Anna Jacob Lovelock baptized 31 May 1846 son of Jacob and Anna Alas, no source quoted. Haven't searched for any other names, but probably some out there somewhere. Lodgers at same house un-named St Georges Parish with Williams family. Mary Lovelock aged 12 scholar. born Tythegston. John Lovelock aged 7 scholar born same. Very strange as being Scholars, they must be connected with Williams in some way. One other in Glam 1851. At Pontypridd. John Lovelock lodger aged 21. born Coychurch. Hi All And a very Happy New Year to a whole new year of genealogy!! May all your descendants kindly stand up and be counted!! ;-) Have completed some cross referencing of the Pallot entries I sent you all in the dying embers of 2001 and updated the master Vital Record files Lovelocks in Hampshire and Berkshire. The additions and variations were not many. Wiltshire Only two minor variations from marriage data we already had, both from the parish of Mere: 1793 John Lovelock & Martha Bridle (We had, from the IGI, Mary Bridle) 1798 Wm Lovelock & Mary Morton (We had Mary Morten) Hampshire One minor variation for Alverstoke parish: 1822 Sarah Lovelock and John Cousens (We had Sarah Stubington Lovelock & John Cousins) A variation for the parish of Hannington: 1791 Amy Lovelock & Thos Purver (We had, from the IGI, Thomas Philpot) Two new entries, also for Hannington: 1802 Jane Lovelock & John Drewett 1816 Hannah Lovelock & Jas Maskoll Finally, three new entries as follows: Winchester St Bartholomew 1809 Jan 17 Mary Lovelock & William Lee Winchester St Faith & St Clement 1803(?) Nov 9 William Lovelock & Priscilla Godwin Winchester St Thomas 1801 Nov 30 Thomas Lovelock & Olive Matton Berkshire One new item for the parish of West Hanney: 1821 Jan 11 James Lovelock of Sparsholt and Elizabeth Ann Giles (E.H.) There were no new items for Gloucestershire. Anyone found any marriages in the old City of London yet? I found one for the Berkshire Loveloock line. These London marriages are very difficult to find as there were over 100 parishes. So if your mssing marriage happens to be in the period 1790-1837, try Pallot's. You may get lucky! Best wishes for all your research over the coming year. Robert Sterry

Since you've all been good and worked so hard on Lovelock family history this year, here's a little Christmas bonus for you all. I have extracted all Lovelocks from the Pallot's Marriage Index for you. Hope you like it. Have a very happy Christmas to you all. Robert Sterry *********************************************** Pallot's Marriage Index for England: 1780 - 1837 Relates mainly to London and Middlesex but also includes other counties. Index is supposed to cover 101 of 103 parishes of the City of London. Most of entries for parishes outside of London were taken from published copies of parish registers. There is also a Pallot baptism index but most of it was destroyed by fire. The Pallot Indexes were started in 1818 and may therefore include some entries from registers that have since been lost or destroyed. The Index is particularly valuable in finding marriages in the general London area in this time period that would otherwise be very difficult to find because of the large number of parishes. Lovelock entries extracted below from this Index have been grouped in counties and then in alphabetical order of parish and then in date order. Bear in mind that this index is only a finding aid and the original entry should be checked for accuracy and any additional information. Hi all Have just completed searching LDS Films 1849250 and 1049250. Did not find any Lovelocks in Tidmarsh (Marriages 1813-1979 & Burials 1813-1984 - PRs)or Tilehurst (Baptisms 1700-1813, Marriages 1700-1808 and Burials 1700-1813 - PR) but did find heaps of Lovelocks in Thatcham Baptisms 1883-1989 and Marriages 1960-1969(PRs). I actually ordered the wrong film for Tidmarsh and Thatcham just happened to be on it. If the Thatcham baptisms and marriages are of any interest to anyone on the list, email me. Best wishes Robert
