    3. Absolutely! I've now used the program on the LovelUck extracts and replaced the original file on the Web pages with the Excel file generated by the program, together with an HTML file derived from it. Its now hardly necessary to purchase the complete transcripts! I hope that the PRO don't try to make it more difficult! Regards, James Robert Sterry wrote: >This program Graham found is fantastic!! 2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've added to the Web pages a couple of files containing Lovelock/luck extracts from the 1901 census: o Some full extracts for Lovelocks for various counties, kindly provided by Graham Lovelock o The partial extracts (the information available for free) for LovelUcks (mostly Glamorgan, but a few from other counties) Since the records cover several counties, I've linked them to the page Sources -> General, but I'll probably split them out by county at some stage. Regards, James

    1. Lovelocks House ( formerly Newtown Lodge ) Newtown Hungerford B erkshire
    2. John Lovelock
    3. Last Friday I visited the Berkshire Record Office and looked at the Hungerford Inclosure Award 1820. The map indicates that Francis Lovelock owned the land where Lovelocks House now stands. Francis acquired the land from John Pearce in February 1805. No building is shown but Francis also owned unenclosed land to the south upon which a building is marked roughly where Lovelocks Cottage stands today. He also owned land to the west side of the Hungerford to Wantage Turnpike Road. I also looked at the 1841 Census. Newtown Lodge is recorded and the residents were Charles Coxe 60 Clergyman, Eliza Coxe 55, Susan Coxe 25, Caroline Coxe 20 and Francis Lovelock Coxe 20. It would appear therefore that Lovelocks House was built sometime between 1820 and 1841. Rev Charles Coxe is listed in Pigott's 1830 Directory at Hungerford Newtown and is also listed in the Electoral Register of 1832 voting at East Shefford. Francis is also mentioned as an allottee in the Lambourn Inclosure Award of 1806 then known as the township of Chipping Lamborne. He owned land near Stancombe Down. Charles Coxe died in February 1846 age 66. It was probably at this stage that his son James Thring moved to Newtown Lodge. Francis Lovelock's niece Eliza died in August 1866 age 83 and is buried in Avington. My theory is that Lovelock's House was built by Francis c 1820's and this is how the property was later renamed. 3. Hi James etc again On my first go I failed to find nearly half the people I was searching for. I know that some like my Gpa John Edward Loveluck and Thomas Owen Davies (& his wife) were at sea, but several whole families are "missing". As in 1881 George Weight is under Wright. The wildcards facility can't be used for this. I found him in 1881 by using "Neighbours". But that seems to be out for 1901! I can't find my Howell family in Risca even using Howel* to cover spelling variations. Some individuals cannot be found anywhere, and yet I know they survived. I would never have found the birth of my GGPa Wm Turner if DRL had not told me he was registered "Thomas", but later christened Wm and called Wm (no Thomas at all!) Finding someone with a common name is going to be very tricky if they have moved. Even more so when ages are not right 10 instead of 16. G WRights birthplace is given as Newmarket Glam, but his Newmarket was in Glos! So there must be vast numbers or errors for them to put right. Will they be able to cope? John Dixon

    3. Hi James etc After nearly 9 months I finally managed to get some info from the 1901 census. I see a few of the ~80 LovelUcks came from Wilts. Have you got these sorted? Is the list on your website? I was surprised to see Margaretta Mathias Loveluck (nee Davies) & her dau Mary were boarding house keepers in Hastings. Strange that there was no mention of this when her son JEL & DRL went to live at nearby Bexhill in 1945. Have you got the full entries for these and "your" James in Lancs? No point paying twice or more!! I see that his bro Wm was in Lancs (S Manchester) - (why did he say he was born in Ireland when his birth was reg in Neath), but his wife Catherine was in Aberavon; I imagine they must have split up. I don't seem to have told you that my mother Muriel Mary Courtis Loveluck died on 3 May aged 86. She had been out in her Metro GTI and had a slight fall. It took the hospitals 10 days to discover she had broken her pelvis. They then managed to give her all the fatal hospital infections and finished her off with a dose of morphine au Shipman. I drove the old R-R to see the Queen on 27 April and this was the last thing we talked about. I had a quick 11 day 2200 mile trip with the old caravan to Gdansk in Poland for the wedding on 3 Aug of the real Magdalena after whom I named the car when there in 1995. Grenoble does not seem too far away now! John Dixon.

    3. Yes, I think this is the first time the Lovelck list has helped to reunite close cousins, and it calls for a little virtual celebration! I'll just put a bottle of virtual champagne in the virtual fridge, and we can drink a virtual toast to Daphne and Colin. Cheers! 3. Hello all, Maybe everyone was aware of this already, but just in case - the UK PRO has once again made the 1901 UK census available on-line. This time it seems to work! Currently this is a test site, available 9:00 to 19:00 (GMT+1 -tough on the Aussies!) but presumably if it doesn't fall over it will continue. The information available for free includes name, age, birthplace, county and parish (of census return) and occupation. The image of the original document is available for a fee. I already collected all the free information about LovelUcks. Now onto the LovelOcks! Maybe we could share out the collection by county (one can do this by entering the county in the "Where born" field of the search form, but oddly one has to specify gender and search for males and females separately. I'll start with Wilts. 1. Lovelocks House Newtown Hungerford Berkshire and the Lovelock Family Crest
    2. John Lovelock
    3. I am pleased to advise all Lovelock listers that I have finally discovered the Lovelock link. Last Thursday I looked at the transcript for Avington Parish register at the Berkshire Record Office. On the 27th March 1780 Ann Lovelock ( sister of Francis 1751-1834) married James BUTLER of Newbury. Ann and James had a daughter Eliza Ann who on the 8th August 1808 married Charles Batson Coxe of East Shefford. Charles later became Rector of Avington and East Shefford. Eliza and Charles had at least 7 children: Frances Ann B c1810 - buried 12/10/1824 age 14+ ( from NBI ) Susan Elizabeth B c 1812 - buried 12 Feb 1903 age 91 ( from NBI ) Richard Lovelock Bap 5 July 1814 Edward Jones Bap 18 Oct 1815 Francis Lovelock Bap 27 May 1817 - later becam a JP and lived at Eddington House James Thring Bap 8 Sep 1818 - later lived at Newtown Lodge and finally: Caroline Mary Bap 2nd Aug 1821 Caroline married Major General Arnold E Burmester - a plaque in East Shefford Church Caroline and Arnold E had a son ( 1857-1944) Arnold Charles ( later Captain ) who married Alicia Coxe ( 1857-1946 ). Source again plaques in the church. Francis Lovelock ( 1751-1834 ) was therefore a Great Great Uncle of Capt Burmester. The mystery still remains why Capt Burmester dedicated a carving to Francis Lovelock. Francis died before he was born but obviously he was impressed by stories of his GG Uncle There also is the possibility that Newtown Lodge was owned ( and even built ) by Francis's parents Edward and Ann. Perhaps Capt Burmester discovered the Lovelock connection and renamed the house. I will leave that puzzle with you. 1. Census records updated
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've updated the census records for Hampshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire on the Web pages with the latest files provided by Robert Sterry. In particular, there are now extracts from the 1891 census for these counties. Graham Lovelock provided the extracts from the 1891 census, and I believe that both Graham and John Lovelock contributed to the other updates. Many thanks to all for these valuable additions! Regards, James
