It was previously linked only to the LovelUck Web pages (since most of the records are LovelUck) but I've now linked it to the LovelOck pages as well (Sources-> General). Note that the document on the Web has been "censured" in the usual way - births after 1903 and marraiges after 1923 have been removed. I can send the unexpurgated version to anyone interested. Some of these entries also appear in the GRO extracts provided by Malcolm L and Robert, but John's coverage of LovelUcks is more complete. One last point concerning BMD records - just in case anyone hasn't already seen the news, the" Family Research Link" Web site offering acess to images of BMD records, on payment of a modest fee, is now operational at: http://www.1837online.com/ For £5 one can purchase 50 units (+10% discount at the moment) to view the same number of records (the only catch is that sometimes one needs to view several pages before getting to the right one!) This service can temporarily fill in when the records are not available from freebmd. Since these are scanned images of the GRO indexes, one doesn't have the problem of searching for the spouse in the case of marriages. Does anyone know why freebmd decided to handle marriages in this way (not including the name of the spouse)? >For some reason I have no ref for Cecilia's m to John ~1860 nor his birth ~1836, where was he for all the censuses? 3. Hi When I first tried freebmd a year or 2 ago it had only ~2% records and I found nothing useful, but it now has getting on for 50% of all RGO bmd index entries for 1837-1902, some years are virtually complete but others are virtually non-existent. Whilst there have not been any new Lovelucks to add to my list of RGO entries on James's web site, I have been able to add several marriage partners. If you click on the ref for a marriage you get up to 8 people (1 to7 others) with the same ref, usually 4 male and 4 female. In a good number of cases you get just one to match the one you know - no doubt because the other (up to) 3 have not been done yet. Sometimes all but one can be eliminated from other info, but in some cases we are left with a choice of 2 to 4. There are clearly some omissions and errors and duplicates, but so far there has been no way to find a partner if the surname was not known. Previously at RGO or using the fiches at Bromley Lib I have found the first n! ame by checking for the same ref under the known or possible surname for the same time quarter. I am sending my updated list to James with all the bmd entries in freebmd marked (first names in red, or pink if added in the update of 1 April). You will see that there are whole blocks missing. The site is very busy now that it has become really useful! Just do Google and enter freebmd to get the ref - the first! For some reason I have no ref for Cecilia's m to John ~1860 nor his birth ~1836, where was he for all the censuses? The Howell L seems to have used any combination of 3 first names!! John Dixon

    3. Very interesting John! I have Howell Ronald Llewelyn Loveluck married Margot Lewis, so I wonder who is the Eva Loveluck, born Canada (given the other attributions I don't suppose we need to take the country of birth too seriously!) According to my notes (from Janet Hearle) Howell Ronald was in the consular service (presumably British) which would explain his numerous Carribean trips. His children Philip and Linda Sue settled in the US and there are death records for his son Philip and grandson Ronald William in the California state records (available via Rootsweb). I also have copies of California birth records (provided by Lynn Davis) for the children of Philip L: Linda Sue b. 23 Nov 1941, Ronald William b. 27 May 1944, both at Los Angeles, mother Higgins. For Allen: this is part of the Llangynwyd Loveluck family - Howell Ronald Llewelyn Loveluck was the youngest son of John L and Cecilia Evans. James

    3. Hello all, I've updated the "Lovelocks in Hampshire" file on the Web pages to the latest version provided by Robert on 23 Mar. Here's the details from the "What's New" page and the Sources-> Hampshire page: 30-Mar-03: Updated Lovelocks in Hampshire by Parish <http://perso.numericable.fr/%7Elovjames/family-history/lovelock/lovelocks-in-hants.htm> to the version provided 23-Mar-03 by Robert Sterry <mailto:rsterry@zip.com.au>Includes new material obtained by John Lovelock from the Hampshire RO from the transcriptions/surname indexes, In particular a number of new baptisms, marriage and burial events in Kingsclere and Twyford. For Robert and John: I integrated the minor corrections from John in his message of 25 Mar - please make sure I did so correctly! 1. Lieflock line final(?) update
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've made another update to the Lieflock line, which covers the remaining comments (up to comment (ppp)) in the "Comments on the Lieflock Line" document. This revision also includes data on some additional branches, including: o Details provided by Graham of his paternal branch, starting with the second marriage of John L (bap 14 Jun 1815 Gt Bedwyn) to Ann Andrews o Ken Gigg's branch, from Elizabeth L. (1846-?) and Edwin Waters o Maureen Louise Gaffey's branch, descended from James L (1840-?) and Elizabeth Maslen. Many thanks for these contributions! The Lieflock line now contains 1077 individuals! As before, the update includes: o An update to the annotated version of the discussion between Robert and Graham, indicating which points have been taken into account and how o An updated version of the Lieflock Line descendent report (in PDF format - see below) o An updated gedcom file, which contains much more information than the above, including source references, notes, etc. Details are available from the Web pages ("What's New", "Wiltshire Family Trees and Fragments"). Please note that the Lieflock line descendant chart is in PDF format, because the latest update of my gene program has broken the HTML format for descendant charts. I hope this doesn't cause any inconvenience. Note that the gedcom file includes not only the Lieflock line, but also data on other Wiltshire Lovelocks. There are actually 194 trees in the database, some of them consisting of only one or two individuals. So there is still lots of work to be done on linking up all these trees! And this is just Wiltshire! (Although of course the Lieflock line extends well beyond Wiltshire). Its inevitable that I've introduced errors when entering all this new data, so please don't hesitate to let me know if you find any mistakes, and I'll correct them in a subsequent update. Regards, James PS Beautiful spring weather here in Grenoble - dry and sunny for the last 2 weeks, a little chilly in the morning but warm in the afternoon (around 17 celcius)

    3. I freely admit that I am getting a bit lost with messages appearing from unexpected directions. However, at least this one did not require me to put my thinking cap on. Having said that, beware, James, the death location of Edwin Waters : as per my communication of last week, I suspect he actually died in Little Bedwyn, being a resident of Chisbury Lane there at the time he died. RED HERRING ALERT !!! Edwin Waters mother's maiden name was Eliza Stagg. The Staggs were a pretty large family and probably married into every other family for miles around at one time or another. And now we discover that Flora the daughter-in-law of James L and Honor Gigg was also a Stagg. By the way, Edwin Waters and Elizabeth L also had a daughter Emily born in Little Bedwyn in 1878, according to Ken. AND, apparently Henry Hillier and Elizabeth L also had: Rose born abt 1882 (1891 Census) Sarah Louisa born abt 1887 (1891 Census) Graham > Hello all, > > Graham may have already mentioned it, but you missed at least one John Lovelock from your list - the progenitor of Fragment 10 (Graham's maternal line - I think there may be other list members connected to this line; please shout out!) If I hadn't had my nose so close to the grindestone I would have seen that Graham had already noticed Flora and her two children. He also found this family (together with husband and two additional children) in the 1891 census for Hungerford. However, we do now have the surname (Stagg) for Flora. James

    1. More on James L & Honor Gigg and children
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello again, [Message already sent to Robert and Graham, but maybe others on the list are interested.] Concerning comment (fff), Graham's notes referred back to comment (e), which included details of PRO reords for the children of Charles L (1848 - 1923) son of James L (1826-1897) and Honor Gigg. However, it also referred to the 1881 census record for James L and Honor Gigg and I took a more detailed look at this. One finds James and Honor with 4 of their 11 children (Richard, John, James and Ellen) still living with them. However, the bit that interested me was that there was in addition: Flora LOVELOCKE M 26 F Easton, Wiltshire, England Rel: Daur In Law Occ: (Engineers Wife) Frederick W. LOVELOCKE 2 M Hungerford, Berkshire, England Rel: Grandson Walter J. LOVELOCKE 10 m M Hungerford, Berkshire, England Rel: Grandson Flora was presumably the wife of one of the other children of James & Honor L, not present at the time. since the children were born Hungerford Berks, I looked in the "Lovelocks in Berkshire" file and found the following marriage: 1877 Dec 25 William Lovelock married Flora Stagg but not the baptisms of Frederick or Walter. So I assume that it was the 5th child of James & Honor L, William John L bap 18 Jun 1855, who married Flora Stagg. Unless you see a hole in this, I propose to enter this marriage and the two children. Regards, James

    3. Hello, A message was posted on the NWKFHS site the other day suggesting the following new web site may be of interest i.e. www.oldbaileyonline.org/ had a short browse this afternoon and find that there was a John Lovelock living in Wapping, London who was sentenced to transportation. Thought this may be of interest to somebody, it may also of course be useful in finding other "blacksheep". Keith Taylor

    3. Hello As I've probably said before, this Lovelock site is just great and by far the most active of all my "families". Thanks to everyone concerned. Regards. 2. John Lovelock
    3. Well my suggestion of a Lovelock/Loveluck Gathering has really opened the floodgates! My thanks to everyone who has responded to date. A couple of UK based Lovelock Family History Researchers have offered to help me with the logistics and a planning meeting will hopefully be held in April. One of the exciting developments from my mailing is the networking of New Zealand Lovelock researchers. E mail addresses do not always indicate the country of origin. May I therefore suggest that future postings to the List include a brief address. I know that Allen ( in Aberavon ) and James ( in Grenoble ) already do this. I fully appreciate the reluctance of listers to include full postal address but simply including Town/City/Country enables readers to get a picture of our worldwide network and may ( as we have discovered in NZ ) enable local networks to develop. Best Wishes John Lovelock Hedgerley Buckinghamshire United Kingdom
