    3. Hi all This is the first bogus family history email I have received with a virus attached. So be cautious of opening attachments. (Natually I have not forwarded the attached virus!) And make sure you've got antivirus software running and regularly UPDATE the virus signatures for it. Then you'll have no problems! 3. Iam looking for the parents and sibling descendents of Frederick John. I cannot find any information about his birth or marriage to Eliza Jane Tillman. He ended up living in Merton Surrey at least from 1930 onwards. He died in Surbiton Surrey on 28th Dec 1943. He had 4 children the eldest Frederick William, my husbands grandfather, was born in Streatham nearby to Merton. Rumour has it that Frederick John's father was born in Malmesbury as well. He had a brother Charles who was a dairy farmer in the 1930s living in Earley outside Reading. Frederick John was a builder. Any informantion would be most appreciated.Thank you. Sian Lovelock

The "Hobart Town Courier" 26 June 1854 p.2 col.6 (reporting English news) noted: On Saturday morning, April 1, a very destructive fire occurred at Smelmore Farm, in the occupation of Mr. Lovelock, at Chively, near Newbury, which consumed the entire homestead, five valuable horses, and other live stock. The loss of farm produce is very considerable. It is supposed to be the work of some incendiary. with best wishes Dianne Snowden Richmond Tasmania (Aus).

    3. Welcome to the Lovelock list Sian. The reason why Malmesbury does not feature is possibly because it never made the IGI or Boyd's Marriage Index or the Pallot Marriage Index. So unless someone had a reason to search that particular parish, it would be left untouched. However, the original registers are available from 1591-1870 at the Wiltshire Record Office. It has not evidentally been filmed by the Mormons so can't be viewed outside the Hampshire RO or the Society of Genealogists in London who also have a copy. There is also evidentally a local marriage index 1590-1837. I'm not sure what time period you're interested in for Lovelocks in Malmesbury. But here's all the Lovelock GRO entries for the Malmesbury Registration District that have been extracted to date: Event Year Surname Forenames Reg District Vol Page Qtr/Mo Age Birth 1865 Lovelock Henry Malmesbury 5a 87 2 Birth 1865 Lovelock Henry Malmesbury 5a 87 2 Birth 1874 Lovelock Alfred Charles Malmesbury 5a 47 1 Birth 1876 Lovelock Albert Malmesbury 5a 46 2 Birth 1876 Lovelock Elizabeth Malmesbury 5a 55 2 Death 1849 Lovelock Ellen Malmesbury VIII 248 4 Death 1849 Lovelock Ellen Malmesbury VIII 247 4 Death 1891 Lovelock George Malmesbury 5a 27 1 15? 3. Greetings all Visited the Society of Australian Genealogists in Sydney yesterday and completed extracting marriage from Boyd's Marriage Index 1500-1837. I had previously only completed to 1750. Most of these marriages I already had included in the Lovelocks by Parish compiled files for the respective counties with the exception of the following: 1817 LOVELOCK Jn & Mary PAIN Compton HANTS 1826 LOVELOCK Mary & Wm CARTER Compton HANTS 1830 LOVELOCK Chas & Mary An COOK Compton HANTS 1763 LOVELOCK Abra & Mary YOUNG Cherington GLOS 1774 LOVELOCK Mary & Ric DAVIS Great Badminton GLOS 1761 LOVELAKE Jn & Christian KING Sparsholt BERKS I will email to James separately the complete Lovelock extractions for Boyd's 1500 - 1837 together with the updates of the counties of Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Berkshire. If any of you would like a copy (I cannot attach a document when posting to the list) please email me separately. Hope you're all going well with your own research. Best wishes Robert from a rather cloudy and cool winter's afternoon in Kurrajong, NSW, Australia.

    3. Good evening all. I hope I have persuaded a lady by the name of Sian Davies to join the list. Her husband is a Surrey Lovelock whose father was also born in Surrey. His grandfather and any generations before that are proving very difficult to track down. After several probing family interviews Sian now believes that her husband's Lovelock grandfather and great-grandfather may have haled from Malmesbury. I know we have no, or very little, data from Malmesbury, but can not remember why this is. Can anyone remind me, and do we have anybody else with Malmesbury connections who might be able to help Sian out? She is presently able to research essentially only from her keyboard, so this needs to be born in mind. One of the frustrations she has found is that mysteriously none of the 1881 or 1901 Census information seems to relate to these Malmesbury denizens. But I will allow her to amplify the tale. Regards from a Yate enjoying pleasant evening sunshine Graham

    3. Hello John, I think I found the family in the 1881 census, living at Kiln House, Charlton, Berks. The date of birth of Tom A(rthur) Lovelock is given as 1874, which is close to what James stated. There is also a younger brother Frederick, who must be "uncle Fred". The father's occupation is given as "brick burner" and the eldest son as "brick maker". It seems that the parents (James' grandparents) were from Hampshire. See details below. I looked in the "Lovelocks in Hampshire" file for the baptism of James (grandfather) at WInchfield. There is a baptism as follows: 1832 Jul 1 James s. of Richard and Hannah Lovelock but this is about 7 years out if the census data is anything like correct. I didn't find a record for the marriage either. 3. Hi James James Lovelock has advised me that his father's name is Tom ( Thomas) Arthur. Unfortunately he hasn't provided the place of birth but his letter indicates that this event took place at Farnborough near Wantage in 1872 and he was one of 13 children. Can any Listers find him on the 1881 Census? I also asked James if he knew anything about the Lovelocks of Polperro in South East Cornwall. Whilst on holiday in the area a couple of years ago I noticed several shops in the village run by Lovelocks and was told by another shopkeeper that there was quite a Colony of Lovelocks! James said that he was aware of this enterprising branch of the family but did not know anyone there. Does anyone have any knowledge of this branch and when they moved to the area?
