    1. A couple of Wilts files updated
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I hope you've now all recovered from the Christmas festivities and are ready to get back to Lovelock family history! I've updated a couple of the Wiltshire files on the Web site as follows: - Robert has now extracted what he believes are all the remaining Lovelock entries from the 1871 census for Wiltshire, and they are now included in the corresponding file on the Web site http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/documents/1871-wilts.html - Graham has added some baptism and burial records for Tidcombe, obtained from the Wilts FHS transcript. These are now included in the latest version of the Lovelocks in Wiltshire file: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/lovelocks-in-wilts.html Regards, James

    3. Season's Greetings Lovelock Listers from a damp and gloomy London Town - the odds are shortening on a White Christmas! This time last year Jeremy, Janet, Graham and myself were in the middle of planning Lovelock's Alive and had reached 45 bookings. By the time we finally met in June over 70 people attended and what a wonderful time we had including three and a half minutes of fame on Meridian Television! Building on the spirit of friendship that was engendered by the weekend we decided to produce a Newsletter 'Lovelock Lines' under the proficient editorial stewardship of Yann. Edition 1 hit the presses in August and issue 2 is due to hit the streets late January 2005. I understand that it is a bumper edition but Yann can squeeze further material into the magazine but must receive your items no later than the 9th January 2005. Send material to: [email protected] I have received subscriptions from 24 people ( 21 in UK, 2 North America and 1 Australia ). If any other listers would like a printed copy for themselves or relatives please send your subscription to me at 13 Coppice Way, Hedgerley SLOUGH SL2 3YL. ( Rates are: £2 UK £3 overseas ). Please note that a copy will also be posted on the Lovelock Web Site. It only remains for me to thank Jeremy, Janet and Graham for their invaluable assistance with LA04 and to James and Robert for their pioneering and continuing hard work on the Web Site. With Best Wishes for Christmas and the New Year John Lovelock

    1. Wilts census files updated
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've updated the files with extracts of Lovelock records for Wiltshire from the 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses, to include additional records for Lyneham provided by Sue Lovelock (the 1881 file already included the Lyneham records). The files are accessible from the Wilts sources page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/wilts-records.htm Many thanks to Sue for contributing these records! Observant listers may notice that I've changed the format of some of the census files. The motivation for this was to make it easier to cut and paste records from the files into other files. Previously if you tried to do this you would get all the names followed by all the "relationships" followed by all the ages, etc. Now you should get the details for each individual displayed horizontally in the correct order. If this is incomprehensible don't worry! The data hasn't changed (unless I screwed up!) James

    3. Hello all, The Lovelocks in Wiltshire file on the Web site has been updated. The additions (compiled by Robert Sterry) include additional records for Lyneham provided by Sue Lovelock and for Lydiard Tregoze and Wootton Bassett provided by Lynn Squire. Many thanks to Sue, Lynn and Robert for their contributions! As usual, I have excluded records for potentially living individuals (baptisms after 1904 and marriages after 1924) from the version on the Web site. The unabridged version can be obtained on request from Robert or myself. James

    1. New Web pasge - Useful Information
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, One suggestion arising from the LA '04 gathering was that it would be useful to have a page on the Web site with links to some of the Web sites which are useful when doing family history research. It was suggested that this would be particularly useful to people who are fairly new to the Internet, and haven't yet discovered all the material which is available, and also perhaps for those who are overwhelmed by the quantity of material and would like to see a selection of the most useful sources of information. I finally got around to producing a first attempt at such a collection, and you'll find it at: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/info-for-beginners.html The page is linked to the menu item "Useful Links" under the "Home" diretory. I'd be happy to consider suggestions for further additions, but I prefer to keep the page fairly short in order not to stray too far from the aim of providing a selection of resources, and not a big collection. Thanks to Robert Sterry and Graham Lovelock for suggesting a number of the items in the list. Regards, James

The trees which have been updated are the Lieflock Line, the Lyneham Line, the Wroughton/Tidcombe Tree, the Wootton Rivers Tree (that part not included in the Lieflock Line) and the Shrewton Tree. Details are available on the What's New <http://perso.numericable.fr/%7Elovjames/family-history/lovelock/new.html> page on the Web site. 3. Hello Tony, I have visited the ruins of Ty FRY many times, mainly owing to the great views from its site, out over Kenfig and the Bristol Channel. However, a little story told to me by an old man in his eighties. Mr. Doug [ machine ] Watkins, who lives in a cottage below. He told me of the following event in 1907 when 2 grown ups and 2 children had died of cholera at Ty Fry. A remaining child had been taken away to Aberavon by Hooper family who were related in some way. Only a story, but worth recording. 3. For the first family (George Lovelock and Martha Goff) we have had confirmation from Lynn Squire that there was another daughter Hanna or Anna baptised 5 July 1863 at Lydiard Tregoze. I believe it was this Hannah Lovelock who married first Henry Fortune and later Henry Gibbs. Sue had this information in her database but had the name as Ann instead of Hannah. (Sue also had her bap 6 Jan 1861 at Lyneham, but it seems this was a confusion with Ann, daughter of George L and Mary Comley). For the second family - George L and Mary Comley - we also have the 1881 census record which indicates that there were two more children: Henry, born abt. 1872 and Eliza born abt. 1876 1881 Census, RG11 2037 F40 P6 Cottage Village, Winterbourne Bassett George Lovelock, Head, 42, Ag Lab., Clyffe Pypard Mary Lovelock, Wife, 41, Ag Lab., Clyffe Pypard George Lovelock, Son, 16, Ag Lab., Clyffe Pypard Fanny Lovelock, Daur, 15, Ag Lab., Clyffe Pypard Sarah Lovelock, Daur, 11, Scholar, Winterbourne Bassett Henry Lovelock.
