    3. In the Autumn of 1998 I visited Athlone in Ireland and contacted the local library seeking assistance in finding the birthplace of my father ( George William Lovelock ) in this Midlands town beside the River Shannon. The Librarian was extremely helpful and I found the cottages I was looking for. I was also given a photocopy from an Index Book of family names which included one entry for Lovelock as follows:. LOVELOCK 1619 Samuel, gent. grantee lease of Weir on Shannon (Patent) wife, Elinor a 'life' My Irish connections are very brief as my Grandfather served there in the British Army and three of his children were born in Eire before he returned to the UK. However this entry might mean something to someone on The List. Best Wishes John Lovelock Hedgerley Buckinghamshire

    3. Greetings Mary I searched the online indexes for NSW and Victorian deaths in Australia between 1923 and 1928 but no sign of a Hilda or Olive Lovelock. Robyn Hand has also recently supplied a large number of Lovelock deaths in other states of Australia but no sign alas of a Hilda or Olive Lovelock. The other states of Australia unfortunately do not have on-line indexes but deaths are available on fiche for tohse years. The next time I'm down at the Australian Society of Genealogists, I'll check the fiche for other states. Best wishes Robert PS I assume you meant to type they married in 1918 not 1818. > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Saturday, 19 February 2005 8:11 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Lovelock temporarily in Australia > > > Can any of you Australian Lovelock connections help, please? > > Weyms Talbot Lovelock married Hilda Olive Field in > Addlestone, Surrey, > England on 21st September 1818. 1. Lovelock temporarily in Australia
    2. Can any of you Australian Lovelock connections help, please? Weyms Talbot Lovelock married Hilda Olive Field in Addlestone, Surrey, England on 21st September 1818. We have a three generation photo of them, taken about September 1923. Soon afterwards, in the autumn of that year Weyms and Hilda emigrated to Australia. Hilda was born in 1892. At some point, while in Australia, Hilda died, but we have no idea where, when or why. The next we hear of Weyms is his second marriage in Brighton, Sussex, England in August 1928 to Annie Winifred Field. Weyms was my great uncle and none of his family knows anything about Hilda, except that his and "Old Auntie Win's" only daughter was named Hilda after her. Any information would be gratefully received. Mary Perry (nee Lovelock)

    1. More Web site additions & updates
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've made the following additions and updates to the Web site: 1. Following the update of the Berkshire Lovelocks gedcom file, I have now updated the corresponding Reading & Oxfordshire tree (descendants of John Lovelock & Elizabeth Woolf of Reading, Berks). This is linked to the Berks Trees & Fragments page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/berks-frags.htm 2. By popular request, I have added an "Australia & New Zealand records" page to the "Sources" section: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/aus&nz-records.html This currently includes links to two files provided by Mary Pipe, containing BMD records for New Zealand and for NSW, Australia. For the NZ records please note that, following my usual policy, I have eliminated records for potentially living individuals. The complete files (Excel format) are available on request. I have two more files of Australian birth and death records (provided by Robyn Hand via Robert Sterry) which I shall link to this page within the next few days. James

    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've updated the Berkshire (Reading and Oxfordshire) Lovelocks gedcom file on the Web site. Due to genealogy program compatibility issues, the previous version didn't have any details of baptisms. After a lengthy struggle by Robert and myself, with invaluable aid from Sue Lovelock, we have now resolved this problem and the new version includes all available details of baptisms. The gedcom file is available from the "gedcoms" page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/gedcom.htm The updated version of the gedcom file is also used when browsing the Reading & Oxfordshire Tree using the Java Applet, using the link on the "Berkshire Family Trees and Fragments" page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/berks-frags.htm James

    2. John Lovelock
    3. I recently contacted Mrs Daphne Tighe of Mere in Wiltshire as Daphne indicated in the 2004 Buckinghamshire Family History Members' Interests that she was researching Lovelock. Daphne has responded by saying that she does not have internet access but has quite a lot of Lovelock information on her word processor which she would be happy to provide for the Lovelock Website. Daphne's GG Grandmother was Ann Lovelock, born 1806 at Lyneham who married Jacob WHITE in 1828. Daphne has traced Ann's ancestry back to a marriage in 1689 at Wroughton between Abraham Lovelock and Priscilla GREENOWAY. Daphne mentioned that some years ago she shared her research with Sue Lovelock of Bath as they are on the same family line and added that she has a number of miscellaneous bits and pieces picked up during many hours in the Wilts RO. Is Daphne's research worth adding to the Web Site? Best Wishes John Lovelock Hedgerley Buckinghamshire

    3. That's great Col. The burials we have for Lovelocks in Hampshire are from the National Burial Index (2nd ed). If the CD you have is more recent than the NBI, it may contain additional burials. Usually the local versions are ahead of the National indexes. If you check the info we have on Lovelocks in Hampshire http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/lovelocks-in-h ants.htm you can see for yourself whether you have any additional information. If you do, I'm sure we'd be extremely happy to include it. 1. Lambeth and Australia Lovelock Tree
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've added to the Web site (under Trees & Fragments -> Other Coun(r)ies) a new file containing an extensive Lovelock Tree which starts in Lambeth and extends to Australia and New Zealand. We previously had an outline version of this tree which was included in the initial compilation of Lovelock trees and fragments by Gwen Eastment and Robert Sterry, but the new version has been greatly extended. Many thanks to Mary Pipe who submitted a gedcom file containing this tree, and to Marion Herbert, Robert Sterry and Diane Snowdon who also contributed to it. As usual, there's a link to the new file on the "What's New" page. James

    1. Harry George Lovelock of Newbury Berks
    2. John Lovelock
    3. I received a telephone call from a reporter on the Newbury Weekly News yesterday to say that a lady had approached the local branch of the Royal British Legion with a letter written in 1917 by Harry George Lovelock's Commanding Officer informing his mother Elizabeth Lovelock that he had been killed in action. Apparently Harry George Lovelock is commemorated on the Newbury War Memorial and received the Distinguished Service Medal. The lady would like to pass this letter on to Harry's family. The reporter mentioned that according to the 1901 Census Elizabeth was living at Avon View Newbury ( age 19 ). The Commonwealth War Graves Commission Web Site indicates that Harry was a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery, died on the 4th December 1917 and is buried at the Nine Elms British Cemetery in Belgium. Is anyone on The List related to Harry? Best Wishes John Lovelock Hedgerley Buckinghamshire

    1. Family Trees - another reorganisation and some additions
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've made quite a few changes and additions to the Web pages, and in particular those containing Lovelock family trees. The "miscellaneous Trees and Fragments" page wasn't very satisfactory, because it contained a mixture of trees which didn't belong to the pages dealing with Wilts Trees or the Berks Tree together with other trees and fragments which had not been included on these pages, for rather obscure reasons! So now wherever possible I've moved all trees and fragments to the appropriate county trees page, and in addition I've added a Hampshire Trees page since we actually had several trees for Hants. The remaining "miscellaneous trees" (now re-baptised "other coun(r)ies") are now those for which I don't yet have a county trees page - in fact they mostly involve Aus and NZ but I don't think we can consider them as counties :-) Of course, they do all start somewhere in the UK, and several start in London/Middlesex, which is a candidate for another page. I'm also planning to add a "Work in Progress" section to each of these pages of trees by county, to encourage people to submit fragments even if they are somewhat tentative; others may well be able to help to refine such fragments and even connect them to other trees. In addition to the reorganisation, there is also one new tree and two trees have been updated. The new tree is on the "Berks Trees" page and is named the "Lambourn/Sparsholt Tree". A preliminary version of this tree was first provided by Robert Sterry on 15 Jan 2004, but was not included on the Web site. Graham Lovelock provided a more complete version of this tree which includes additional material and corrections from Sian Davies, Michelle Lovelock, Nigel Gerdes and Michael Bousher. The updated trees are: the descendants of Noah Lovelock (b Hants abt 1701), now called the Ropley, Crondall & Dogmersfield Tree, on the "Hants Trees" page, to include the branch of James E Lovelock (several people contributed to this, including John Lovelock, Alison & Mike Turner, Nigel Gerdes and even myself); and the Tangley (Hants) Tree (previously called the Hampshire Line) on the new "Hants Trees" page, which includes additional material following correspondence between Graham Lovelock and Robin Lovelock. Details of the changes to these trees can be found on the "What's New" page or on the corresponding trees page (Berks Trees or Hants Trees). Finally, on the "gedcoms" page you will find an updated version of the "Wiltshire Lovelocks gedcom" which includes the changes to the "Tangley Tree" mentioned above (even though this tree belongs to Hants, the data is in the Wiltshire gedcom file for historical reasons and the fact that it does extend into Wilts). There is also a new gedcom file corresponding to the Ropley, Crondall & Dogmersfield Tree; The initial version of this gedcom file was provided by Mary & Roger Perry. It has been extended to include the branch of James E Lovelock and source references for many of the BMD events were added using data in the "Lovelocks in Hampshire" file. I plan to add other gedcom files to this page, and again I encourage folks to submit files for inclusion. Full details of the changes and additions are available on the "What's New" page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/new.html James
