    1. Web site updates - Kingsclere Line and Work in Progress
    2. James Loveluck
    3. Hello all, I've made a number of changes to the Web site, as follows (taken from the "What's New" page): * Updated the Kingsclere Line <http://perso.numericable.fr/%7Elovjames/family-history/lovelock/fragments/kingsclere-hants-tree.html> to include additional contributions from John Lewis, Nigel Gerdes and Graham Lovelock; Graham's contribution also includes some data originally provided by Dee Allhands. See also the Work in Progress page <http://perso.numericable.fr/%7Elovjames/family-history/lovelock/wip/wip.html> for a pointer to a proposed extension of this line by John Lewis. * Added a Kingsclere gedcom file to the gedcom files page <http://perso.numericable.fr/%7Elovjames/family-history/lovelock/gedcom.htm>. This gedcom file was produced by a merge of a file provided by John Lewis 15-Sep-05 and one provided by Nigel Gerdes 28-Aug-05, together wiith some additional data provided by Graham Lovelock 14-Jul-05. The latter also includes some data provided by Dee Allhands. * Added a Strays section to the Work in Progress page <http://perso.numericable.fr/%7Elovjames/family-history/lovelock/wip/wip.html>. Currently there is one entry, a Lovelock family that Michael Lovelock is searching for. Many thanks to all the contributors! James

    3. Eileen sent this to the list admin address, but I assume she meant it to go to the list. James -------- Original Message -------- Subject: More about Percy Lovelock Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2005 09:42:09 -0600 From: Eileen Adkins <[email protected]> To: Lovelock Mailing list <[email protected]> Thank you to all you kind Lovelock researchers who have pointed me to the back history of Percy's father William Henry Lovelock who was born at Westcott, near Sparsholt in Berkshire. Percy was born in Mile End Old Town in the September quarter of 1879. He married my great aunt Eliza Bailey Hobbs in the September quarter of 1904 at Hackney. Eliza was born in Glasgow 21 May 1870 but returned to Hackney where her father William Hobbs had been born before she was 4 years old. Her mother died and her father married again and my grandmother was her half sister. Percy & Eliza had 2 daughters. One was Ena and she had serious health problems. She might be the Ena born 1906. Their other daughter Cecelia married George Harry Fairey in the December quarter of 1921. He was from Olney in Bucks and they had met during WW1 when George came to London. My mother and George's sister Winnie were the bridesmaids. This was Winnie's first visit to London and she was 16. Later when our house was damaged by doodle bugs falling nearby we decamped to Olney and my sister and I were looked after by Winnie in a cottage that had no running water, no drains and only gas lighting. The Fairey's house at the other end of Olney was quite different. I did meet Aunt Eliza during WW11 - I'm pretty sure she was a widow by then - I have 1953 as her year of death but that may be a guess. Cecelia, known to us as Cissie, lived in Olney from 1921 until her death. George pre-deceased her. This is as much as I know about this Lovelock family group. Perhaps if anyone knows when Cecelia was born they could let me know. Congratulations on all the Lovelock information on your web sites. Eileen

    3. Eileen, James, et al This is part of the Lambourne-Sparsholt tree. William Henry we have bap 31 Jan 1830 at Sparsholt, with a note in brackets that obviously ought to say 'born at Westcott in 1861 Census' - no doubt my omission of the word 'born'. Although Percy and Charles are listed there is no other information so there is a bit of updating to be done. Do you have any details on Percy's other daughter, Eileen, or any dates? The only thing I could find in Free BMD was Percy and Eliza's marriage: Sep quarter of 1904 in the Hackney RD, ref 1b 1062. I now have more information. Percy was born Sep quarter of 1879 in Mile End Old Town. His father was William H Lovelock born about 1829 at Westcott, berks - which I cannot find. his mother's name was Ester born abt 1839 at Ramsbury, Wilts and he had an older brother Charles born about 1876 at Bromley-by-Bow. Percy and Eliza had 2 daughters so he has no Lovelock descendants. His daughter Cecelia I knew as Cissie and she lived in Olney, Bucks after her marriage. Does anyone recognise this branch of the Lovelock family. Eileen

Have you tried searching the 1901 using Cecil's occupation as a clue, and using partial surname searches (as in lov*** for instance)? Sorry not to be of any real help. The details concern the family of Charles Lovelock b 27 Jan 1857 at Sparsholt (we previously only had the year of birth) and includes details of 4 additional children as shown in the 1901 census living at Rodbourne Cheney, Wilts. Ron also provided the maiden name (Davis) of Charles mother Harriet. James

    3. Hello all, In the last few months we have made steady progress in building up a fairly large number of Lovelock trees, and we have also succeeded in making interesting connections between previously unconnected trees. It has been my policy to avoid including on the site trees and fragments which are somewhat tentative, because publishing them on the Web site could have the effect of "casting in stone" such proposals which may lead people along false trails. When there were exceptions to this policy I have tried to make clear that the material was somehat tentative. One disadvantage of this policy is that it may inhibit the discussion of such proposals, although they are sometimes discussed on the mailing list or within more restricted circles. So, after discussion with a number of people concerned, I decided it might be useful to add to the Web site a "Work in Progress" section where we can capture these tentative proposals so that everyone can study them and hopefully either produce evidence which confirms them, or shoot them down in flames! We can also use this area to publish details of "stray" families which don't appear to link into any of the current trees, or for any other topics which you think are worth airing. Of course this can (and should) also happen on the mailing list, but after a while such topics sometimes get lost, and placing them on a Web page should avoid this. The new "Work in Progress" section appears as a new tab on the menu bar, and currently contains two proposals, one on a Hampshire - Suffolk - Rutland - Herfordshire connection, from Nigel Gerdes and Graham Lovelock, the other on a Berks - Cheshire - Lancs connection, from Graham Lovelock. Any comments or questions about these proposals should be sent to the mailing list, and then I'll update them as required in the light of the discussion. Eventually they may be considered as "confirmed" and I'll move them to the appropriate place. I would encourage everyone to send to the list or directly to me any proposals for this "Work in Progress" section and I hope that you'll be encouraged by the fact that proposals do not need to be complete or fully confirmed. James

    3. Hello fellow Lovelock researchers I have a marriage certificate dated 17 August 1904 for one Cecil Charles McKenzie LOVELOCK aged 27 years whos father was Charles LOVELOCK (deseased) occupation Architect. He married Lily Jane CROFT aged 28 father George CROFT gardener. They were married in the parish of Tupsley, Hereford I have made extensive searches of the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses but can find no entries for Cecil Charles McKensie LOVELOCK or his father. I really would like to find Cecil in the 1901 census. I do know he was in Hereford when his son Victor George Leopold Lovelock was born in 1908. Some of you may remember this request some time back in 2004! Since then I have searched in sooo many places without finding this family. If we have any listers from Australia or New Zealand, perhaps they might be able to help with a look-up in their own country BMD databases. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards Derek

    3. Hello listers, I've added to the Web site a tree and a couple of fragments for London (mainly St Pancras). These were provided by Graham Lovelock, who points out that they are very much work in progress, and are submitted for review. Comments and suggestions are welcome! The tree and fragments are linked to the "What's New" page, and to the page "Other count(r)ies" in the "Trees and Fragments" section. I haven't included a direct link to the page because either my ISP or the Rootsweb server seems to be dumping messages containing URLs! James
