Hello all, I've uploaded new versions of the following files to the Web site: Lovelocks in Gloucestershire - added records for Bristol St Nicholas provided by Robert Sterry Lovelocks in Wiltshire - note from Paul Whitaker concerning the date of marriage of Charles Tanner and Maria Lovelock at Great Somerford; note from Gilbert Berrett concerning the incorrect surname (Bennett) of the bridegroom for the marriage to Kate Lovelock 29 Nov 1897 at Wootton Rivers Lovelocks in Berkshire - Added a note from Graham Lovelock concerning the difference in dates between the NBI and the extracted data from the PR for the burial of Edgar Henry Lovelock at Hungerford St Lawrence James
Hello all, Yann Lovelock has improved his proficiency with his PDF tool and is now able to generate PDF files with active Web links. Consequently, I've updated Lovelock Lines 4th Edition on the Web site to the new version provided by Yann, for which all the links work (with one exception) in the sense that clicking on them should take you to the corresponding Web site. The offending link contains a comma which apprently confuses the software! The file is in the same place as before: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/l-lines/lovelock-lines-4th-ed.pdf You probably need to be using the latest version of Acrobat Reader (version 7.0.x) for the links to work; otherwise you'll just have to cut and paste them into your browser. Many thanks to Yann for his efforts in making this improvement. James
Whilst searching for my elusive Maternal Great Grandfather at the London Metropolitan Archives on Saturday I came across the following entry in the Parish Register of St Mary's Battersea Surrey. Baptism - 8th January 1857 Born - 18th August 1856 Louisa Elizabeth Lovelock Parents - John and Louisa Lovelock Abode - Battersea Occupation - Builder I searched Baptisms 1852-1876 but did not find any other Lovelock entries. The following appeared in the Kelly's London Suburban Directory ( Southern Suburbs ) 1872 - Samuel Lovelock 19 Waldrons Croydon. Hopefully these may be of use to someone on The List. Hello all, I've added to the Web site a transcript of the will of John Lovelock, maltster of Wallingford, Berks, died 5th Aug 1817. http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/documents/will-john-lovelock-wallingford.html (the will is also linked to the "Wills" section of the Berkshire Sources page) Many thanks to John Lovelock, who transcribed the will, and to Robert Sterry, who proof-read the transcript. You should read "A Pint & A Pie" in Lovelock Lines, 3rd Edition, to understand the connection between these two John Lovelocks! While I was involved in Berkshire wills, I added more details of those documents which mention Lovelock (and variants) from Nick Hidden's collection of abstracts of probate documents for Hungerford and Wantage. James
I forgot to mention that the update also included contributions from Daphne Tighe (via Robert Sterry), although this is mentioned on the "What's New" page - burial records at Providence Baptist Chapel, Clack for several individuals on the Lyneham Line. Many thanks to Daphne Tighe for this material. I have other material from Daphne (again via Robert Sterry) including court records, bonds, wills, etc. which concerns Lovelocks from Aldbourne, Etchilhampton, Tidcombe, Shalbourne, .... The material is in the form of scanned images, but I shall make it available on the Web site when I have the time to transcribe the documents. But Yann, that's what genealogy is all about - looking for dead people! More seriously, it is often very helpful to have burial records even for individuals with such short lives. More than once I've built up a tree fragment based on an individual, only to find out later that the individual died in infancy. Thanks for the records Robert, I'll add them to the Gloucester file "sometime soon". Sadly you are quite correct Yann. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. Perhaps appropriate for Chinese New Year? Sorry to point this out, Robert, but every baptism recorded was shortly followed by a death. Admittedly, there seems to be no record of the burial of Wm b.1724 (at St Nicholas, anyway) but the fact that there is a further Wm in 1729 suggests that he died. Hello all, Lovelock Lines Edition 4 (New Year edition) is now available for download from the Lovelock Lines Web page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/l-lines/lovelock-lines-4th-ed.pdf This edition includes articles by Sue Lovelock (how the link between the Lyneham Lovelock Line and the Nevada Lovelocks was made, thanks to the Lovelock mailing list), Robert Chapman & Yann Lovelock (more insights on Jack Lovelock, the NZ runner, and on Lovelock literature), Brent Lovelock & Yann Lovelock (a story of a gaol being renovated by a Lovelock, and his links to a NZ Lovelock line), and Robin Lovelock (some detective work on the Wootton Rivers Lovelocks), as well as some highlights of what's new on the Web site. Many thaanks to all the contributors, and especially to Yann Lovelock who not only contributed but also brought it all together. Yann also provided an updated version of Lovelock Lines 2nd Edition, with some minor revisions. Yann is using a new PDF package to produce Lovelock Lines, and he has encountered a minor glitch with Web links, which do not seem to work correctly with his new package. However, it is always possible to cut and paste the corresponding Web links. James
I forgot to mention that I was able to confirm some details of the New Zealand branch of this new fragment (family of Charles Lovelock & Elizabeth Cathleen Walker) using the BMD data provided by Mary Pipe, which is now on our "Aus & NZ" sources page. There were a couple of additional events (indicated at the end of the tree) which may also belong to the tree. Maybe one of our NZ list members could shed some light on these possible links. I forgot to mention that Leonard Robert Lovelock also provided information included in this tree. Indeed the impetus for developing the tree was a note from Leonard Robert Lovelock, which was forwarded to the mailing list by Jeremy Lovelock on 20 Nov 2005. Thanks Steve Also bear in mind that if the 1998 figures are based on the Electoral Roll not every household registers to vote.
