Cecil and Lilly had 3 children: Robin Geoffrey Lovelock born 1904 Dorothea Kathleen Marion Vear Vale Lovelock born 1906 Victor George Leopold Lovelock born 1908 Hereford If nothing else i would love to know why some of those names were chosen !!! Hello all, I have updated the following three Wiltshire trees on the Web site: - The Lieflock Line - The Shrewton Tree - The Wroughton/Tidcombe Tree One satisfying addition for the latter tree is the connection of the families (two wives and children) of John William Lovelock (born 1853) to the tree. These families had previously been identified by Alan Whitaker during his research on the Shipton Moyne and Derbyshire Tree, but they had not been connected to any of the existing family trees. Some nice detective work by Graham Lovelock established the link to the Wroughton/Tidcombe Tree. Alan Whitaker's information on the families of John William Lovelock is currently available on the Work in Progress page (in the section on "Strays") and could be removed now that it has been connected to the Wroughton/Tidcombe Tree, but I have left it in place for the moment as part of the story of this interesting connection. The corresponding gedcom file ("Wiltshire and beyond"), which includes data for all three of the above trees, has also been updated, as have the tables of Lovelock Family Trees and Wiltshire Family Trees. Full details of the changes are available on the What's New page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/new.html Many thanks to Graham Lovelock who supplied most of the material for the updates. The additions are not very extensive, but I wanted to do the update before making some changes to the organisation of my database and the corresponding gedcom files. I'll describe these changes in a subsequent mesage. James
Hi all, I was recently looking at the Wootton Rivers Tree 2, and noticed that it lists Mary LOVELOCK (MARTIN) baptised 31.12.1738 (daughter of John LOVLOCK and Ann MARTIN) as also being buried on the same day? I was under the impression that this Mary in fact went on to marry John GODDARD on 07.08.1760 in Wootton Rivers. Records have been checked for me and there is no burial detail listed for a Mary LOVELOCK (MARTIN) on 31.12.1738, so I thought I would report this as a possible error on the database? Regards Simone.
Hello all, I've made a couple of minor updates on the Web site, as follows: * Updated the Berkshire- Cheshire - Lancs Tree, on the Work in Progress page to include details of the marriage of Arthur Lovelock (b 1 Q 188 in Stockport RD) to Matilda Esther Phillips, as provided by Graham Lovelock. The file is at: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/wip/berks-cheshire-lancs.html * Updated the tree for Charles Lovelock (aka Charles Shaw) of Bethnal Green to include the FreeBMD death record for Charles Lovelock d 4Q 1868, as provided by Roger Lovelock. Also added information obtained from 1881 census record for Charles' son James Thomas Lovelock and family. The tree can be found at: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/fragments/other-lovelock-trees.html#CharlesL Thanks to Graham and Roger for the additional information. James
Hello all, I have added to the Work in Progress page a proposal for a Compon/Winchester (Hants) tree which has been put together by Robin Lovelock and Graham Lovelock. The tree can be accessed directly at: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/wip/compton-winchester-hants-proposal.htm The tree is supported by a collection of Winchester and associated census records: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/wip/Winchester-etc-census-records.htm some, but not all, of which have already been included in the corresponding collections of Lovelock census extracts for Hampshire. Many thanks to Robin and Graham for contributing this proposed tree. James
Hello all, I've updated the Lambourne - Sparsholt Tree on the Web site to include new material concerning the children of James Lovelock and Jane Brind, which was provided by Graham Lovelock, and includes information supplied by a "Living Bowden", plus FreeBMD data and some census records from Ancestry. The file is linked to the "Berks Trees" Web page, and can be accessed directly at: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/fragments/lambourn-sparsholt-tree.html Many thanks to Graham and to his Bowden correspondent for the new material. James
Hello all, I've added to the Work in Progress page a family tree which begins in Hungerford (Berks) and extends to Shalbourne (Wilts/Berks) and beyond. There are over 80 individuals in the tree, which was constructed with help from Graham Lovelock, who contributed a number of census records which helped in constructing the ater generations. The tree can be found at: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/wip/hungerford-shalbourne.html and there is also a corresponding gedcom file, which can be accessed from the gedcom files page: http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/gedcom.htm The beginning of the tree is a bit uncertain, but at the moment it begins with yet another John Lovelock who married at Hungerford in 1770, so was presumably born around 1740-1750. James

Whilst searching for a different family branch, I came across the following; Hannah Lovelock aged 29 years buried 30.01.1875 at Kingsclere, Hampshire. also William Charles Lovelock aged 7 days buried 25.02.1876 at Kingsclere. Both at same address; Ashford Hill, Woodlands, Kingsclere. Found 1871 census for Ashford Hill and found the following; Edward Lovelock...head...28... Ag lab... born Kingsclere Hannah Lovelock...wife 25.............born Kingsclere Alfred Lovelock..son...4...born Kingsclere Agnes S Lovelock..daughter...1...born kingsclere. The 1881 census shows Edward as a widower with a different address but still in Kingsclere. Perhaps this is of interest to someone. Yours. Forgot to include marriage in 1819 with a Lovelock as a witness in previous post. Found the following Lovelake/Lovelock entries in a Modern Transcript of Bristol-Clifton St Andrew. This register was badly damaged during WWII so difficult to read with years and pages missing and illegible. However, this transcript includes information from an earlier transcript by Arthur Prowse that appears to pre-date the WWII damage. Hello all, You probably received a message some time ago from Rootsweb describing the migration of mailing lists to a new system. I have now been notified that the Lovelock mailing list has migrated to the new system. As far as I understand it, the only changes that should affect you are as follows: - Messages to the Lovelock mailing list should now be sent to: [email protected] (previously the address was [email protected]) - Subscribe/unsubscribe requests should be sent to [email protected] For subscribe requests, the message should just contain the word 'subscribe' (without the quotes) in both the subject and body of the message. Similarly the unsubscribe request should just contain the word 'unsubscribe' in the subject and body of the message. I'm not yet sure how one subscribes to digest mode, but I think that sending a message to [email protected] will still work. - There are some changes to digest format, but I haven't really grasped their significance. Please let me know if you experience any difficulties, or if you notice anything which is not working in a satisfactry manner. James

Hello all, Over the past couple of years we have built up a substantial collection of Lovelock family trees and fragments, and I thought it would be interesting to try to get some measure of how far we've got in connecting up all the Lovelocks for whom we have records into one or other of these trees. As a start I took a look at the "Lovelocks in Wiltshire" file, since a lot of the tree building activity has focused on Wiltshire. Following are some very approximate statistics indicating how far we've got in connecting the records in this file into one or other of the Wiltshire trees. As with all statistics the actual numbers shouldn't be taken too seriously, because my methodology was very rudimentary. Note that the figures were derived from the "unexpurgated" Lovelocks in Wiltshire file, which differs from that on the Web site in that it contains records for some individuals who may still be living. The Lovelocks in Wiltshire file contains about 2065 records altogether. This includes some duplicates (records from different sources) and some events which are not baptisms, marriages or burials (for example wills, apprenticeships). Following an initiative started by Robert Sterry, events related to the Lieflock Line (L), the Lyneham Tree (Ly) and the Hampshire Tree (HL) (now called the Tangley Tree) have been flagged in the file; if one eliminates such events, one is left with about 1210 events. If one now eliminates events associated with the other trees listed in the table of Wiltshire Lovelock Trees, http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/wilts-frags.html one is left with about 865 events. Eliminating duplicate events, wills and apprenticeships this is reduced to about 750 events. Finally, there are a few Wiltshire fragments which are not included in the table referred to above, but are listed on the page of "Early Lovelock Fragments" http://perso.numericable.fr/~lovjames/family-history/lovelock/frags-history.html (these include fragments for Aldbourne, Chippenham, Marlborough, as well as some additional fragments for Gt Bedwyn, Burbage, and Ramsbury). Eliminating events included in these fragments leaves about 650 events which have not yet been associated with any of the trees or fragments included on the Web site. So for the case of Wiltshire, we have made very good progress in connecting up individuals into trees, but we've still got 650-750 events (depending on whether or not one includes the small fragments) which have not yet been connected to a Lovelock family tree, so we still have plenty of work to do! For other counties I would expect that we're not as far advanced as for Wiltshire. James
