Hi, Larry The Master Genealogist is still for sale on the WhollyGenes website here: http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?screen=TMG#buytmg Yeah, support is ending, but the program should be usable for a while longer. I'll refer you to the TMG mailing list on Rootsweb (http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html ). Since the announcement of the "end" of TMG, that list has been abuzz with discussions about possible alternatives. Discussions have included the possibility of a "son-of-TMG" program development and discussions about how many users (including me) will continue to use TMG for the foreseeable future. Since TMG is the only event-centered (as opposed to person-centered) genealogy database program on the market, I will continue using it until another program emerges that has the same feature set. I'm on Version 9.03, which is the latest version, and it should continue to work for a good while. I highly recommend it, even though formal support is ending. The TMG list will continue to offer support, and there are very knowledgeable people on the list who have been involved in ongo! ing development of the program. But if you are planning to buy TMG, you should do it sooner rather than later, because sales will be suspended at some point in the near future. I think the formal helpdesk will not be available after September. Ancestry killed the access for older versions of FTM the first of this month prompting a change in the normal . Using FTM 2005, a search was quick and would be in the region that was indicated on the family sheet but on down the list, it would bring in lesser matches. Still a very good search engine. The newer ones, 2008 and 2012, just take the name and decade and go world wide with a lot of graphics and fluff and very little in this hemisphere. Roots Magic 6 looks around but I still can’t pickup on the editing and search to be even a little productive. They are more in search of information for the LDS database. Legacy 8.0 is about the same. I looked for the Master Genealogist and found it is no longer for sale and support is ending. Does anyone have a suggestion for a working program for large files ? I have bought six programs and don’t have anything that I can get to flow! and go. Looked for two people yesterday from the obits in the paper and the programs couldn’t find anything even though these folks showed up on Google in a large way. Has anyone been this way before? I would be grateful for any and all insights. Gizmos has a good article explaining the different programs. It explains the differences and what's good or bad about the specific program. http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-genealogy-family-tree-software.htm Linda Parsons ----- Original Message ----- From: "List, Lovelace" <[email protected]> To: "Larry Campbell" <[email protected]>, "List, Lovelace" <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, August 22, 2014 9:57:25 AM Subject: Re: [LL] Computer Program Hi, Larry The Master Genealogist is still for sale on the WhollyGenes website here: http://www.whollygenes.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?screen=TMG#buytmg Yeah, support is ending, but the program should be usable for a while longer. Hi there, I've received a subscription to Ancestry for my birthday, it runs until December. I've noticed that there is a real lack of information on the Saratoga NY Loveless's back in the 1700's. Does anybody know how I could get any of you to contribute directly to the tree? I don't really know where all my original research is in my storage unit (where all my worldly belongings are) but I KNOW I have a load of information that none of the Loveless researchers on Ancestry seem to have. Also any tricks that I can use will be greatly appreciated, I love getting the census and birth/death record matches, but there has to be other places to look for more intricate stuff. Debbie, Does this mean you have set up your own Loveless tree on Ancestry? If so, you can invite people to participate in building your tree. Instructions on how to do that are located at http://help.ancestry.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/493/kw/how%20to%20share%20a%20family%20tree You can grant varying degrees of participation, but if you want others to help build your tree, you will need to give them "editor" status. You can use either Ancestry id or email address to invite. I will be glad to add the Elijah branch as time permits if you are interested in doing that. My Ancestry id is blgert2 and my email address will appear in the To field above if you do a reply all to this email.
