My gg-grandfather is Theophilus Cotton born 1805 in Edgefield Co., SC. He appears to be the oldest child of Arthur Cotton and wife ***Sybil LOVELESS (LOVELACE)***. There is a difference of opinion between Cotton researchers on whether Arthur's wife was Sybil or Sarah Moore. I have never found a marriage record to prove it either way. My Cotton family used the name Irene or Irena through several generations, as far down as one of my first cousin and her great granddaughter. My great grandmother was Irene Cotton youngest daughter of Theophilus and Kizzie Cates Cotton. She was born in 1852 in Monroe Co., AL and died in Bay City, TX in 1924. I have tracked Cullen Cotton a little in Texas. He lived in Nueces Co., Karnes Co., Gonzales Co. and he is buried in Williamson Co. He did marry a second time but I really don't know anything about her other than her name is Solina P. Ayers and her first husband was Harris D Thorp. This comes from a descendant of the second wife. After looking at some of the Cotton information that was sent to me by others I am a little skeptical about some things. I need to look at a couple of things more closely. I will get back to you.
