    3. Howard, I am not having much luck in identifying your grandfather, Joe H (or Joseph H). I have found your father, Fay Howard Loveless, on the 1920, 1930, and 1940 census. In 1920, Fay is residing in Walker County, Georgia, in the household of his grandparents, William and Kate McGregor. He is listed as La Fayette Lovelace. In 1930, he is still residing with his grandparents. He is listed as Fay H. Lovelace. In 1940, Fay is residing with his uncle, Pierce McGregor, in Walker County, Georgia. He is listed as Fay H. Lovelace. There is a death certificate in Catoosa County, Georgia, (certificate no. 000957). His date of death is given as 18 Feb 1975. The death certificate has his name as Fay H. Loveless. I have found Fay's mother, Bessie Sue McGregor, on the 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940 census. In 1880, Bessie resides with her parents in Dallas, Paulding County, Georgia. Her name is listed as Bessy S. McGregor. This is probably where Bessie was born. Her father is William M. McGregor (1844-1821). Her mother was probably named Sarah Katherine Summers (1854-1932). In 1900, Bessie still resides with her parents, but they now live in Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia. Her name is given as Bessie McGregor, 20 years of age and single. In 1910, Bessie is listed as Bessie McGregor, 30 years of age and married for ten years. She is residing in the household of her parents. NOTE Fay Howard is NOT listed on the 1910 census with Bessie and he could not be found on any other census record. The 1920 census again has Bessie listed as Bessie McGregor. She is now 40 years of age and a widow. She is living with her parents in the Peavine District of Walker County, Georgia. Fay is in the household with her. In 1930, Bessie is found with her mother, Kate McGregor, in the Peavine District of Walker County, Georgia. Bessie is listed as Bessie Lovelace, age 63 and a widow. In 1940 Bessie is still in the Peavine District of Walker County, Georgia, but she is now in the household of her brother Pierce McGregor. Bessie is 63 years of age and a widow. Fay is also in the household. There is a Joseph Loveless, age 19 and single, on the 1900 census for Trion, Chattooga County, Georgia. His date of birth is listed as Sep 1880 and he was born in Georgia. He is a weaver in a cotton gin. Given his DOB, he is too young to be found on the 1880 census, which has an effective date of 01 Jun 1880. I have not been able to locate Joe/Joseph on the 1910, 1920, 1930, nor 1940 census. Howard, It would be helpful if you could join the Lovelace Project on Family Tree DNA. The 37 marker Y-DNA test would provide the most information in allowing us to place you in the appropriate family line. Loveless dropped out of sight around 1902 shortly after my father was born. I presume my grandparents were married, the family Bible is the only documentation. I was told that Joe was a prizefighter and his last known location was Arizona. In the mid 1950's one of my father's McGregor cousins thought they could find Joe but my father wasn't interested. > -- Jack D. Lovelace
