CANASTOTA >> Joan Ellen Austerman, 53, of Canastota, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 11, 2015, joining her parents and family whom she missed. She was born on Sept. 8, 1961, in Canastota, a daughter of Milton and Evelyn (Uhlig) Austerman. Joan lived in Canastota all of her life, graduating from Oneida High School. She attended Dayhab programs at The Arc of Madison Cortland in Oneida for many years. Joan enjoyed her time at Senior Dayhab, dining out, and spending time in her home. Surviving are: a sister, Pamela J. Cox of Canastota; one brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Sherry Austerman of Texas; two nieces, Meredith Loveless and Stacy Cox; six nephews, Bruce Austerman II, Donald Austerman, Aaron Austerman, Jeffrey P. Cox, Paul Cox, and Christopher Cox; as well as several great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joan was predeceased by her parents. Joan's family wishes to thank Joan's dedicated caregivers, who made it possible for Joan to live in her family home and filled her life with loving care. A celebration of Joan's life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., Canastota. The Rev. Charles F. Vollmer, pastor of the United Church of Canastota, will officiate. Burial will be in Peterboro Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, prior to the service, from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home, 201 James St., Canastota. In her memory, contributions may be made to The Arc of Madison Cortland Senior Day Program, 701 Lenox Ave., Oneida, N.Y. 13421, with envelopes available at the funeral home. J.
