Luther Elmo Knightstep, Jr. Clyde, TX CLYDE -- Luther Elmo Knightstep, Jr., 66, of Clyde, passed over into his new Heavenly life on Friday, April 17, 2015, at an Abilene hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015, with David Edwards officiating, at The Huff Performing Arts Center on the Clyde High School campus. Visitation will be from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2015, at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home. Luther was born April 22, 1948, in Big Spring to Luther Elmo Knightstep, Sr. and Emma Jo Reddoch Knightstep. He was a 1966 graduate of Cooper High School in Abilene and was an honor graduate of Hardin-Simmons University in 1972, receiving a BA in business. Luther was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971. He married Ruth Anmeta Huff on August 18, 1973, in Clyde. They met in the play, THE ODD COUPLE (which some might have been seen as prophetic!) and enjoyed being in several more productions together. He and Ruth moved to Clyde from Graham in 1987. Luther was a teacher at Clyde Intermediate School for 18 years, where he was often affectionately known as "Mr. Elmo" by his kids. During college, he worked as a sports announcer at K-TXS and for S&Q Clothiers. After college he went to work for Noel and Pete Petre as an oil field landman. From there he worked for BJ-Hughes for several years. When he decided to teach Intermediate school children, he went back to HSU for his teaching certificate. During that time, he worked for Joe Allen's in Abilene cooking steaks. He was a man of many talents who could wear innumerable hats! He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clyde; his college fraternity, Tau Alpha Phi; and the "BRO'S" -- his group of friends going back to Jr. High and High School days. He looked forward to Thursdays like a kid! He had a life-long love of hunting and fishing with friends and family. Luther is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ruth Knightstep, of Clyde; one son, Daniel Dickason Knightstep and wife Janene Lynn of Abilene; in-laws, Dr. Lloyd and Naoma Huff of Clyde; two sisters, Diane Young of Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Linda Reed and husband John of Fort Worth; one brother, Thomas Glen Knightstep and wife Erica of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister-in-law Joy Huff McElroy of Greenville; and two grandchildren, Taylor Lynn and Hudson Grey Knightstep, both of Abilene.
