The StarShelby, NC January 27, 2015 Irene Wright SHELBY – Irene Wright, 98, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at White Oak Manor in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County on Nov. 23, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Clingman and Coyrea Lovelace Wright. Irene was an active member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for over 35 years. She was very active with the Pleasanteers, the senior adult group. Irene retired from J. P. Stevens after a number of years of service. Irene enjoyed shopping, gardening, traveling and playing Bingo. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. Irene is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Eric Davis officiating. This one has me stumped. I did find out that, after her marriage to Charlie Wright, Coy (Irene's mother) was married to a John W. Blanton, and in 1930 they were living in Sandy Run, #7 Township, Cleveland Co., NC. Coy L. Blanton was 47 (born circa 1883). Irene was listed as a step-daughter of John, age 13. This was apparently the second marriage for both John and Coy. In 1920, Coy was married to Charlie Wright, and John W. Blanton was with his first wife Josephine (age 41, b. circa 1879) and four of the children who were listed in the 1930 census with him and Coy. Coy was 37, consistent with the 1930 census. She and Charlie had four kids, with Irene being the youngest. In 1940, John and Lovelace Blanton were listed in Sandy Run, #7 Township, Cleveland Co. Lovelace was 57 and was most probably Coy Lovelace Wright. John died in 1943, and his death certificate lists his wife as Coy Lovelace, age 60, who was the informant for the certificate. John was buried in Plea! sant Ridge Baptist Cemetery in Cleveland Co. alongside M. L. J. Blanton (23 Oct 1871-30 Jan 1924; first wife Josephine?). Checking other for other Blantons in the cemetery yields no matches for Coy. There are Lovelaces buried there (Woddford Lee and his wife, and Jonas Alvin and his wife), but none of their families have anyone that matches Coy. Anybody else have any clues on Coy?
