    3. Bob, I share your search source choices, and will add a few more: USGenWeb (www.usgenweb.org) which hosts pages for most counties in most states BillionGraves (www.billiongraves.com) which, while it isn't as extensive as Find-A-Grave, still has some good stuff Fold3 (www.fold3.com) which is mostly military records with some non-military things, and has a subscription fee The NC Archives (http://www.ncdcr.gov/archives/Home.aspx) The SC Archives (http://scdah.sc.gov/Pages/default.aspx) And there are many others.... Tom Loveless asked: "I am not familiar with newspaper sources, or how to search. Am I missing out on something?" There are several sources for online newspapers. Some are free (lke the Library of Congress "Chronicling America" website at http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/ ), some are fee-based (like Newspapers.com, another Ancestry.com subscription site at http://www.newspapers.com/) You can also google the name of the newspaper and see if you can find it that way. Hope this helps, Tom.... Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of bgsroots via Sent: Sunday, February 22, 2015 7:03 PM To: LL Subject: [LL] Quiet List The list has been quiet for quite a while now with the exceptions the obituaries that I post on a daily basis. You may wonder why I do this... Greg, Doug, Cecil and others have contributed significantly to my Lovelace family tree both directly and indirectly and this is my way of “paying back” to them and to you by providing information to the Lovelace archives. When you are doing research on your families the census can only take you as late as 1940, after that the sources are scarce. Obituaries can often bridge the gap between the last census and the current generation because there are often 3 generations published in the obit. It also is a valuable source for maiden names and other married names. In order to liven the list up a little, I am asking you to post your favorite search sites. Mine are: ancestry.com, familysearch.org, whitepages.com and findagrave.com.
