Her spouse was Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace, Jr. While I can't seem to locate much info on Jr., I can find records on Nathaniel Flournoy, Sr. His WWI draft registration card shows him living in Macclesfield (Edgecobe Co.), NC --Ancestry.com. U.S., World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2005. Original data: United States, Selective Service System. World War I Selective Service System Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918. Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration. M1509, 4,582 rolls.) He's listed as Nathaniel Florny Lovelace. He states he was born in Vernon Hill, VA, on 24 May 1890. He is married at this time, a merchant in the employ of ____________ The book "Barksdale Family History and Genealogy (With Collateral Lines)," compiled by Captain John A. Barksdale and self- published in 1940, lists Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelaceas the eldest child of Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace, with a birthdate of 16 February 1917. This fits with the marriage date of 1944, making him about 27 when he married Virginia. This is the entry for his father Nathaniel, Sr.: "Nathaniel Flournoy, b. Mary 24, 1890. A merchant of Edgecombe Co., N. C. He m. at Hookerton, N. C., Apr. 25, 1916, Julia Taylor (b. Aug. 20, 1888), dau. of Francis Marion and Sarah Agnes (Dougherty) Taylor. Issue of seven children, b. in Edgecombe Co., N. C. ..." Then the author lists the 7 children, including Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace. A couple pages earlier --Ancestry.com. A couple pages earlier (p. 220, image 245 of 659), is the entry for Alicy Sydnor Barksdale, mother of Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace, Sr.: "Alice Sydnor Barksdale ... m. at Roughville, Jan. 8, 1868, William Oldham Lovelace, son of John Logan and America Adams (Baker) Lovelace ... He was b. Apr. 18, 1846; d. Mar. 31 1917 in Halifax Co., Va.; buried in Asbury Cemetery ..." p. 202; image 227, has America Adams Baker "... m. in Halifax Co., Va, c.1844, John Logan Lovelace (born Aug. 2, 1819-d. June 18, 1891)." Also available on Ancestry.com is a copy of the 1936 Agromeck, the yearbook of my alma mater NC State University (at that time called the North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering). P. 142 (image 146 of 374) shows a photograph of Nathaniel Flournoy Lovelace of Macclesfield, N. C. And we know from the name Oldham that William Oldham and his father John Logan go back to Thomas and Tabitha Oldham. Thomas was the son of Charles and Bridget McLaughlin Lovelace. (Polito) Fritts; father of Barbara F. Allem (Johnny W.), Roy A. Fritts (Paula Moats), Ron E. Fritts and Roy's virtual daughter, Karen Pedone; brother of Maxine Fritts Toense (Earle) and the late Virginia Fritts Lovelace and Vivian Fritts Ardai. Also survived by five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Roy moved to Washington, DC from Greenville, SC in the early 1940's and lived in the DC area until he retired to Berkeley Springs, WV and then to Hagerstown, MD. A private interment at Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium will take place at a later date.
