According to the 1850 census, Alfred and Mariah were born in Illinois, as was Elvira. From their ages we can deduce that Sarah Lovelace Davis died sometime after 1845, i'm not convinced Allen and Sarah were divorced, their older children may have chosen to live with other family rather than live with Allen's new wife Margaret, that sort of thing was common in those days. On Wednesday, i shall go to the Greene County Historical Society to search their cemetery records, hoping to find Sarah's grave. i'll let you know what i find.
