20100828GN Published in The Greenville News on August 28, 2010 Arthur Lovelace (1920 - 2010) Arthur James Lovelace died at home in Lugoff, SC from natural causes just before 11:00 PM on August 26, 2010, which was one hour from his 90th birthday. Art Lovelace was born in New York on August 27, 1920. He received a bachelor degree at Robert's Wesleyan University and a master degree from Syracuse University. Art was a retired high school teacher and college professor of 57 years. He taught high school business classes in Harpursville and Vestal, NY. He was a college professor in Ohio, Kansas, and South Carolina. He retired from Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina. Art was inducted into the United States Army Air Force on June 29, 1942. He served with the 905th Signal Company - Depot Aviation. He was decorated with the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He earned the Technician Fourth Grade rank before he was discharged on Dec. 29, 1945. Preceding Art in death was his wife, Ruth Marion Marks Lovelace; his mother and father Avilla Boise Lovelace and Leon Lovelace; and siblings, Lula Warner, Rosie Dolphin, and Stanley Lovelace. Surviving Art are his five children, Mr. Terry Lovelace, Dr. Helen Clark, Ms. Jeanie Hula, Ms. Sandra Campbell, and Ms. Sharon Lovelace; one daughter-in-law, three sons-in-law, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. PalmettoCare in Greenville, South Carolina will handle the funeral and burial arrangements. A graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Memory Gardens Cemetery at 586 Issaqueena Trail, Clemson, SC 29630.
