After I replied before, I went back to check the census and noticed that I mis-wrote. Elvira was with the Lovelaces and not Elam. I can't recall offhand where the Lovelaces were from. Like you, I believe Allen M. Davis was married in North Carolina - since they didn't come to Greene Co., IL until about 1835. As far as the census goes, in 1860, I have an A. M. Davis living in Sangamon County, Illinois with an M. Davis, an L. Houston, another Davis (can't make out if it's R E) and a A. Davis - and they live right next door to a Babcock. Who's that? Well, I have an obit of Allen M. Davis and it reports that he died at the residence of his son-in-law, Geo. Babcock. So, I do believe that A. M. Davis is Allen M. Davis. I have Elam Davis' death record, as well as the obit as stated above. Would you like for me to scan them and send them to you. I can also scan the portion of Alfred's civil war file that lists his brother and sisters. If so, what's your e-mail address. Keep me posted on what you find out about Allen Morrow Davis. And,if you need anything in Sangamon Co., IL, let me know - that's where I live. By the way, I think it's neat you and your sister still have the family farm.
