Thanks for that info. It helped me fill in some blanks on my Lovelace Family page. My ancestor is Thomas A. Lovelace who was Archibald's brother. If anyone else sees anything that needs correcting or have other info, let me know. I am new at this so be patient with me! http://haywoodcountyline.com/lovelacefamily.html Thanks, Scott ________________________________ From: "kellenda@aol.com" <kellenda@aol.com> To: lovelace@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, July 29, 2010 12:16:58 PM Subject: Re: [LL] Two Archibald LOVELACEs b. abt. 1809 - numerous discrepancies The Archibald you speak us is my great-great grandfather. My grandfather the son of James Martin Lovelace also was Archibald, he was Archibald Elam Lovelace. My records come from my dad- Dennis Alfred Lovelace, the son of Archibald Elam and his sister Addie. They personally new their grandfather James Martin the son of Archibald. Archibald Lovelace was B 1806. D 1905. M. Nacy A. Holman. He was married three times, Nancy was the mother of all his children. 2nd wife's name Wheeler, 3rd wife Fisher. He was 84, she was 44. Archie & Nancy moved together with Sally & Henry from North Carolina to Mo. in 1838, selling their land on Hunting Creek in N.C. Nancy was killed in a runaway accident returning home from Smithton , Mo. They had gone to purchase their daughter Nancy's wedding clothes. This was before 1868. They had 9 children. What I am certain about is that the line I'm researching goes back to emuel M. LOVELACE b. 1837 (twin brother of Manuel LOVELACE) who married usan C. GRUNDY. Where things fall apart is with Lemuel's father, rchibald LOVELACE. An 1850 census (I have a JPG file, but here is a link to the text: ttp://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/lovelace/1998-08/0903471394) otes that Archibald was married to Mary M. What I don't know, is who re Archibald's parents (I also am not certain of who Mary M. is...but hat's another story). -- Are Archibald's parents Thomas LOVELACE (b. 1772) and Amelia ermela DYSON (b. 1773)?. An extensive tree posted by Tami Bearden http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/rockbridge/597/bearden/lovelace.htm) ays they are and that Mary M. was Archibald's second wife. -- Are Archibald's parents Andrew LOVELACE b. Feb 3 1776 and Rebecca OLEMAN. A 1998 posting from Gary W. Lovelace says this is the case http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/lovelace/1998-05/0896362101) posting from Jack Lovelace http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/lovelace/2004-09/1095134675) ays essentially the same thing. Jack adds that Mary M. is Mary M. URDOM (I think PURDOM was the last name of Mary's third husband -- I hink her maiden name might have been ASHLEY). -- Finally, is it possible that researchers have mixed up the two ets of Archibald's parents? Perhaps they've mistakenly placed the rchibald (father of Lemuel) with the wrong set of parents? Handwritten ecords from Inez LOVELACE (Lemuel's daughter) make references to uncles brothers of Archibald) from the union of Andrew LOVELACE (b. 1776) and ebecca HOLEMAN (b. 1775). But the Archibald from those parents married ancy Harmon (not Mary M). In the end, perhaps the way to identify the Archibald LOVELACEs born etween 1808-1811 is to look for spouses. Here are all the spouses I've ound for the two Archibald LOVELACEs discussed here. There are several ombinations and permutations of spousal arrangements. Nancy HARMAN ean ERWIN ancy HOLEMAN ary M. ary PURDOM elila A. ella annah WHEELER ary ASHLEY Bottom line, I guess, is how strong is the documentation that connects he two Archibald LOVELACEs with their respective parents? And who were heir respective spouses (or sets of spouses)? Thanks to whomever can figure this out.
