You need to be a male with the Lovelace or Loveless name, because the markers in question are passed on the y-chromosome from father to son. Since your first Lovelace ancestor was your g-grandmother, testing y-dna would only be good for your Westerfield line and would not tell you anything about the Lovelace ancestry. >My Lovelace Tree is listed below. If the ancestry is correct, you've gone back about as far as anyone on the list. There are some earlier generations than John Baptist, but we haven't detailed them. The good news, though, is that there are plenty of descendants from the JBL line on the list, so you have lots of cousins. And many of them have been tested for the DNA study. I'm not sure whether we have any tested descendants of Thomas and Amelia Dyson Lovelace, but these lines are pretty well documented and don't really need the DNA test to confirm the lineage. We can say for sure that, if listed tree is correct, you belong to what we refer to as the Maryland group. We have seen through DNA testing that this group probably traces back to southwest England, in the region of Dorset, for the immigrant ancestor in the colonies. We just don't know yet who he was. So no real need to spring for a DNA test. Hope this helps....
