    3. R. Michael "Gunny" R. Michael "Gunny" Turo, 65, of Lansing, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. Michael was born September 18, 1950 in Waterloo, a son of the late Richard B. "Mickey" and Ruth N. (Mayo) Turo. Mike was a life-long resident of the King Ferry area, and was formerly employed as a long distance truck driver. "Gunny" was a US Marine Corps veteran and had served in Vietnam. He enjoyed rifle competition with the Marine Corps leagues and was an avid deer and goose hunter, and loved riding his Harley-Davidson. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Karen (Lovelace) Turo, his three children, Lisa Lee Turo Simolo (Leonard Clay) of Geneva, Alecia Lee Auble (Brandon) of Ithaca, and Christopher Michael Turo of Ithaca, step-daughter, Clarice Burgman (Michael) of King Ferry, eight grandchildren, brother, Paul Turo (Val) of Ithaca, sister, Vicki Sheils (Daniel) of Genoa, sister-in-law, Claudette Turo of Genoa, many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stephen "Reno" Turo. Funeral services will held at 11:00 am, Monday (July 25), at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, Genoa, with Rev. David Quigley officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home, 10117 Route 90, Genoa, on Sunday from 4 to 6 pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tompkins County SPCA.
