    3. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Ancestry of James Lester Lovelace (1940-2014) Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2016 17:48:30 -0700 From: Jack D. Lovelace <lovelacejackd@verizon.net> To: lovelace@rootsweb.com As James so often posted to the list, his ancestry is as follows: 1) James Lester Lovelace (1940-2014) Marjorie Delorraine 2) James Leonard Lovelace (1910-1999) Nellie Thornberry 3) Richard Thomas Lovelace (1879-1945) Lily Mae Sexton 4) The father of Richard Thomas has not yet been identified. When James took the Y-DNA (25) test, his results came back as not being a part of the Lovelace family. Richard Thomas Lovelace and Lily Mae Sexton were married 18 Jun 1900 in Menifee County, Kentucky. On the 1880 Menifee County, Kentucky, census record, Louisa (Tutt) Lovelace has a son, listed as Lithford T. Lovelace, who is one year old (born 1878-1879). Louisa was married to Samuel T. Hemingway/Lovelace, who is the step-son of Alexander Lovelace. Samuel's biological father was Lewis D. Hemingway These facts caused me to assume that Lithford T. Lovelace and Richard Thomas Lovelace were the same person and I informed James that he was descended from Samuel T. Hemingway/Lovelace. I was mistaken. I recently came across a death certificate for Theodore Lynn Loveless, b: 01 Feb 1921 in Lawton, Commanche County, Oklahoma, d: 02 Jul 1975, in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Theodore's father is named as Lynferd Loveless and his mother is named as Gertrude Cass. On the 1900 census for Jefferson County, Kansas, there is a two year old female named Sarah G. Cass. She is the daughter of Thomas M. & Anna Elizabeth Cass. On the 1910 census, she is thirteen years of age and listed as Gertrude Cass. On the 1930 census for Leavenworth County, Kansas, Gertrude Loveless is thirty-three years of age and is divorced. In her household are her four children, Dorothy Frances, Virginia, Theodore Lynn and John T. On the 1940 census, Gertrude has re-married, to William E. Smith and she is listed as Gertrude Smith, age forty-two. Based on the age of her oldest daughter, I assume that Sarah Gertrude and Lithford/Leyferd were married about 1911 in Kansas. I have not found a marriage record for this union. The only record that I have found for Lithford Lovelace is on the 1880 census record. I have not found a record (other that the Death Certificate) that names Leyferd Lovelace. After an extensive search of the Ancestry records, I have not found any combination of Lithford, Leyferd, Sarah, Gertrude, Dorothy, Frances, and Virgina where the names are on the same census record. James Lester posted a message to the list on 01 Aug 2004, where he had found a record on <<www.rootsweb.com/menifee>> where Thomas Lovelace and Lillie Sexton were married on 01 Sep 1900. Richard Thomas and Lillie Mae (Sexton) Lovelace are found on the state census for Johnson County, Kansas, in 1905, where he is listed as R.T. Lovelace. Richard Thomas and Lillie Mae (Sexton) Lovelace are found on the federal census for Johnson County, Kansas, in 1910. He is listed as Thomas Lovelace. Richard Thomas and Lillie Mae (Sexton) Lovelace are found on the federal census for Nicholas County, Kentucky, in 1920. He is listed as Richard Lovelace. Richard Thomas and Lillie Mae (Sexton) Lovelace are found on the federal census for Butler County, Ohio, in 1930. He is listed as Richard T. Lovelace. Richard Thomas and Lillie Mae (Sexton) Lovelace are found on the federal census for Butler County, Ohio, in 1940. He is listed as Thomas R. Lovelace. Richard Thomas Lovelace registered for the draft in 1918 in Rosebud County, Montana. He gave his DOB as 01 Jan 1879 and his place of birth as Bourbon County, Kentucky. Richard Thomas Lovelace registered for the draft in 1942 in Butler County, Ohio. He gave his DOB as 01 Jan 1879 and his place of birth as Bourbon County, Kentucky. According to his Find-A-Grave memorial, Richard Thomas Lovelace died in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio, and was buried in the Masonic Cemetery in that town. His obituary was printed in the Middletown Journal. Richard Thomas Lovelace has not been found on the 1880 census, nor the 1900 census. There are no Lovelace's enumerated on the 1880, nor the 1900, census for Bourbon County, Kentucky. -- Jack D. Lovelace
