Greg is still unable to post to the list due to all the recent software upgrades since Ancestry took over the Rootsweb lists. He asked me to forward his reply. ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Greg Lovelace <greg@part-of-the-tree.com> To: 'Wanda Rabb' <wcr1951@yahoo.com> Sent: Sunday, September 25, 2016 1:20 PM Subject: RE: [LL] Obit of Nan Lovelace McGlohon (NC) Hey, Wanda I am still unable to post to the Lovelace List, so if you would like, you can forward this over. Nan Lovelace is listed in the home of her parents Edward Y. and Frances P. Lovelace in Twp. 9, Edgecombe Co., NC in 1930. She was 8 years old and had a ton of older siblings. Edward Y. and his parents were born in Virginia according to this census. Edward and his wife were both 44 years old, born ca 1886. The NC death index from Ancestry lists him as Edward Young Lovelace, b. 19 Feb 1886, d. 22 Mar 1977 in Wilson, Wilson Co., NC. He was married to Frances when he registered for the draft for WWI on 12 Sep 1918, and they were living in Macclesfield, Edgecombe Co., NC. In 1910, he was married to Frances and had one daughter, Frances, age 7 months. The family was living in Otter Creek, Edgecombe Co., NC. Edward was 24, and stated that he and his parents were born in North Carolina. In 1900, Edward was 14, living in the home of his parents William and Alice Lovelace in Meadsville, Halifax Co., VA. In addition to two older sisters (the oldest, Bettie, was 22 and born August 1877) and a younger brother, Edward's cousin Henry P. Young, age 10, was included in the census listing. Edward's father William was 54 years old, born Apr 1846, and he and Alice had been married for 32 years (married ca 1868). A search on Ancestry for William using a birth year of 1846 plus/minus 2 years and a birthplace of Virginia returns, among other things, a listing from the 1880 census of Meadsville, Halifax Co., VA. William Lovelace was 34, married to his wife Alice, with 6 children, the youngest of whom was Bettie, age 3 (born ca 1877). This matches the information for the father of Edward Young Lovelace. Also of interest is Willianm's entry in the 1910 census of Meadsville, Halifax Co., VA, listing him with wife Alice and the middle initial "O." In 1870, William and Alice are in Birch Creek, Halifax Co., VA with a young daughter. He is 24. On 5 June 1917, widow Alice Sydnor Lovelace, a resident of Halifax Co., VA, applied for a pension under the Pension Act of 1902 for the service of her late husband William Oldham Lovelace. According to her application, her husband William had died on 29 Mar 1917 of pneumonia. The middle name "Oldham" is familiar to researchers of the Virginia Lovelace families. This family goes back to Tabitha Oldham who married Thomas Lovelace. I'll leave it to others to fill in those generations. Please do!
