Jack says: Lovelace, Benjamin (#47245) (1727-c1785) (son of Thomas (1709-xxxx)     married Sarah (1735-c1798) c1751     father of:         1)  Nathaniel         2)  Alkana         3)  Barton         4)  Zadock         5)  Reason         6)  Sarah         7)  Benjamin     The male descendants of Benjamin are in the Maryland DYS456(16) sub-group, so I assume that the line runs as follows:     A)  Thomas Loveless (c1640-xxxx), the transportee       B)  Faustus Lovelace (c1867-c1718)         C)  Thomas Lovelace (1709-xxxx) (referred to as Thomas the Orphan)           D)  Benjamin (#47245) (1727-1785)     This is probably not the way that Lou Ann sees it. Jack's right about one thing, that isn't the way I see it: This is what we know about Faustis Lovelace whose name was spelled various ways, including Justin, in the few documents and translations of the documents that we have of him. Based on his probably being of age at the time records begin, he was probably born around or before ca 1685 or so and based on his probable age, he could have been another son or brother of John b ca 1670. If he's the brother he would have been the son of our immigrant who was probably William. Another factor which indicates his age is that his probable father-in-law was the same generation as John Lovelace b ca 1670, and that makes it even more likely that Faustus is younger and not a brother of John. He was sued in St. Mary's Co MD in 1708 by Joseph Alvey over a horse who Alvey claimed he had taken possession of knowing it belonged to Alvey. The lawsuit was continued to Charles Co MD in 1711 where he was found not guilty of theft but ordred to pay Alvey 1800 pounds of tobacco. We don't know where he would have gotten the tobacco unless he or his family were planters. Also in 1711 he bought land "Turrell's Green" in Prince George's Co from George Jones. Joanna Lovelace paid "alienation" on this land. Mike Marshall who has pulled more early MD and VA documents than anyone I know and with whom I have communcated quite a lot on these families said that he thinks Joanna was a daughter of George Jones. George's wife was also named Johanna and in 1713/14 (probably after the early death of Joanna Lovelace), George and Johanna had another daughter they named Joanna In 1714 Faustus sold the land back to George Jones and now his wife is named Mary. We can deduct at least a couple things from this: Joanna had died and there were no children or the land would have remained with Faustus for Joanna's child. Therefore he is not the father of Thomas the Orphan who was born 1709. And if Thomas b 1709 had been a grandson of George Jones, it is most likely George would have made provisions for him. He was a well to do man. This is the sum total that we know of Faustus. No more records have shown up. He may have died. He may have gone to England. We just don't know. What we do know is that there is no evidence whatsoever to indicate he was the grandfather of my Benjamin b 1727. So that is a proposal I have to disagree with totally. As for who rhe father of my Benjamin is, I think he is either Samuel or Benjamin, son of John who is probably a son of William the immigrant...but could be Thomas. More on Samuel and Benjamin in another message. Lou Ann
