William Pierce’s daughter (Frances) Michelle m Jeffery Dirk Lovelace Jeffrey < Joe Baxter, Sr. < Miles < Baxter < Lewis < James < Benjamin < Barton < Benjamin <.. England William Edward Pierce(1942 – 2016) William Edward Pierce (Bill), 73, went to his eternal home on August 29th after a challenging battle with declining health. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 26 years, (Karen), his three daughters (Michelle Pierce of Spartanburg, SC, Laura Pierce of Charlotte, NC, and Kim Seabrook of San Francisco, CA), and his two grandchildren (Hank and Will Lovelace of Spartanburg, SC). Born October 15, 1942 in Van Nuys, California, Bill grew up in Miami, Florida. He attended Emory University undergraduate and Dental School, graduating with his Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1969. He subsequently served in the Army Dental Corps before opening his dental practice in Charlotte, NC in 1971, where he practiced general dentistry until 2010. Most important to Bill was finding beauty and meaning in everyday life. Woodworking and gem stone cutting were two ways he expressed this love. Other ways he expressed his appreciation of beauty, and belief in the beauty of life was through restoring a person's mouth back to health, and creating beautiful gardens wherever he lived. Once he created whole areas of his garden by taking in the throw away plants from a local nursery, believing in their ability to flourish with the right attention and nourishment. His generosity of spirit expressed through this belief in the inherent goodness of others was given out to those around him. His family, the men he mentored, and his patients all enjoyed this kind of attention. It wasn't unusual throughout Bill's dental career to receive calls from his patients when in an emotional crisis because they knew he would direct them and care for them when they knew no one else to turn to for direction. They also knew he would lighten their spirit with his ever present, and at times quirky, sense of humor. One could always count on Bill to have a different perspective on things and, at least try, to make you laugh. In 2004, before he ended his dental career, Bill completed a spiritual direction course through the Episcopal Church, and was spiritual director to many prior to becoming ill. He especially enjoyed blending his spiritual direction training with his church ministries at Christ Episcopal Church. Bill loved his wife, his family, golf, being a spiritual seeker, the outdoors, adventure, expanding his education, and his multitude of friends. Early in his adult life Bill sought help with becoming a man of integrity through his church, and a family tradition of Freemasonry-mastering the 32nd degree. He attributed the Church and Freemasonry to helping him learn how to discern and apply ethics in daily living, and to appreciate the value of striving for quality in all that one does. Bill was passionate about philanthropy for his profession and his community. During his career Bill served as President of the Charlotte Dental Society, was a founding member of the Holiday Dental Conference in Charlotte, anonymously provided pro-bono dentistry to children of Alexander Children's Center, served on the Board of the Charlotte Opera, served Cities-in-Schools, the Rotary Club, and served enthusiastically in his church. There will be a graveside service with Masonic Rites and Military Honors at 11:00 AM Friday, September 2, 2016 at Forest Lawn East Cemetery, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM Friday in the sanctuary of Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28207. Solely a guess on my part . . . . USSearch.com has a 61-year-old Ronnie H. Lovelace related to (1) Peggy Lovelace and (2) Ila Lovelace. His May 27, 2006 obituary has his name as "Ronald Hayes Lovelace"; his grave marker has his name as "Ronald 'Ronnie' Hayes Lovelace". Ronald's May 27, 2006 obituary shows his wife being Peggy Kate Billings Lovelace. Wife Peggy was married at least once, possibly twice, prior to her marriage to Ronald Lovelace. I'm guessing, but 61-year-old Ila Mazola Lovelace MAY have been a previous wife of Ronald 'Ronnie' Hayes Lovelace, who, if living, would also be age 61. Ancestry.com has an "Ila J. Lovelace", b. 22 Mar 1955, having lived in West Memphis, AR. Ronald Lovelace's ancestors flow through the Lauderdale County AL Lovelaces: Ronald Hayes "Ronnie" Lovelace, Sr. / Otis Hayes Lovelace / Joseph Hazel "Joe" Lovelace / Reuben Leonidas Lovelace / Hazel Lovelace / Hazle Lovelace / Joseph Lovelace / Thomas Lovelace / John Lovelace / William Lovelace If anyone has anything more or different, I would appreciate their sharing. Jeremiah O'Keefe III(1923 - 2016) Jeremiah Joseph "Jerry" O'Keefe, III July 12, 1923 – August 23, 2016 Biloxi Jeremiah Joseph "Jerry" O'Keefe, III, 93, of Biloxi, MS died August 23, 2016. Mr. O'Keefe was born in Ocean Springs, MS in 1923 and was schooled at St. Alphonsus Elementary School and later Sacred Heart Academy in Biloxi. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Jerry enlisted, hoping to become a pilot. He received his wings from the U.S. Marines in May, 1943. In 1944, before leaving for his assignment with the Pacific Fleet, he married his childhood sweetheart, Annette Saxon, and started what would be a family of thirteen children. During combat, Jerry earned the status of 'ace' fighter pilot and was later awarded the US Navy Cross, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, Gold Star and, in 2015, the Congressional Gold Medal for American Aces. After the war, Mr. O'Keefe graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and rejoined the family funeral business, over which he assumed control upon the disability and death of his father. He later acquired the Bradford Funeral Home, forming Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Services. With wife Annette, he founded Gulf National Life Insurance Company in 1958. Jerry loved public service, serving in the MS State Legislature from 1959 to 1963 and as Mayor of Biloxi from 1973 to 1981. He also was a generous philanthropist and tireless fundraiser for charities, including Nativity BVM Catholic Church, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art, and the Boy Scouts. Rachel Lovelace < Leonard Reid < Junius Coster < James Louis < Asa < Nathan < Barton < Benjamin <... England ====================== Rachel Lovelace Mitchell(1922 – 2016) Rachel Lovelace Mitchell, 94, Canton, died 08-22-2016. Arrangements: Wells Funeral Home of Canton. Funeral Home Wells Funeral Homes Inc & Cremation Services 3715 Ashville Hwy Canton, NC 28716 (828) 648-2371 Published in the Asheville Citizen-Times on Aug. 23, 2016 ========== >From the funeral home: "Glam-Ma" Canton – Rachel Lovelace Mitchell, passed away peacefully, at the age of 94, on Monday, August 22, 2016 at The Homestead following a short illness. Rachel was born April 29, 1922 as the second child of Leonard Reid Lovelace and Ida Gertrude Wallace Lovelace. In addition to her parents and husband, Morris Mitchell, Rachel was preceded in death by her brothers, Reid and Daniel Lovelace. Rachel spent her early years in Haywood County, graduating from Canton High School in 1939, then attended Meredith College, from which she graduated in 1943. Fiercely proud of her time at Meredith, she ardently followed activities at the school throughout her life and remained in touch with many of her college classmates. Rachel returned to Haywood County soon after her graduation and joined the faculty at her high school alma mater. She would remain part of the mathematics faculty there and at Pisgah High School until 1980, a four-year sabbatical the only interruption in her distinguished teaching career. In addition to her classroom duties, she served as faculty advisor for the student councils at both schools and as well as numerous clubs. More than three decades of high school students in Canton celebrated Rachel Margaret Lovelace Mitchell as their favorite math teacher, the beloved educator whom they stopped in grocery stores and restaurants, often years removed from graduation, to simply say thank you for the lessons in numbers and life she offered while on the faculty at Canton and Pisgah High schools. Others in Haywood County knew Rachel as the model of community service, giving her time and intelligence to local organizations not for personal reward, but solely for the betterment of others. But the role she treasured most was saved for her family, a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who served as a beacon of grace and dignity, quietly sharing her wisdom while illuminating the journey of life for those closest to her. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "Glam-Ma" due to the pride that she took in her dress and appearance. Her dedication to others extended beyond the classroom. Rachel served on the Haywood Regional Medical Center Board of Directors from 1989-1997, overseeing the personnel committee during part of that tenure. She taught a Sunday school class at Canton First Baptist Church and was also honored to serve as a church deacon for several years among other roles at the church. She served as president of the Canton Women's Club and was a member of many other civic organizations. Of her many accomplishments, though, Rachel was proud of nothing as much as her family. Married to her soulmate, Morris Mitchell, in 1945, the two shared a love that served as a model for others until his death in 2013. Their home in Canton served as a gathering place for family throughout their lives, with many Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas meals shared, Rachel typically the last to take her seat as she made certain everyone had a full plate and full heart. Rachel is survived by her two daughters, Jane Mitchell Rhinehart and husband, Phillip, of Canton and Margaret Mitchell Robinson and husband, Jonathan, of Athens, Ga.; grandchildren, Andy Rhinehart and wife, Leslie, of Columbus, Keri Rhinehart Hill and husband, Eric, of Canton, Rachel Robinson Benson and husband, Craig, of Madison, Ga. and Todd Robinson and wife, Laura, of Atlanta, Ga.; nine great-grandchildren and beloved sisters-in-law, Billie Lovelace of Asheville, Glenda Lovelace of Virginia Beach, Va. and Lois Mills of Houston, Texas. In recent years, Rachel also enjoyed the company of caregivers Chris Claytor, Rita Phillips, Rosie Creasman, Vickie Robinson, and Linda Sheppard. Funeral services will held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Canton First Baptist Church with the Reverend Eric Hill and Chaplain Keri Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service. Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Craig Benson, Kenneth Lovelace, Rodney Phillips, Andy and Samuel Rhinehart, and Todd Robinson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for gifts and donations to be sent to the Helping Hand Fund, Rockwood United Methodist Church, 288 Crabtree Mountain Road, Canton, NC 28716 or Haywood County Health Care Foundation Hospice, c/o The Homestead, 127 Sunset Ridge Road, Clyde, N.C. 28721.
