Hey, Billy I checked, and the Maryville newspaper will sell you a copy of the obit for $2.95. I searched their archives for October 1997 and found this: ---------------- Publish Date: October 3, 1997 Word Count: 292 Document ID: 1266B5C188C41460 He was preceded in death by parents, Rufus and Frances "Fanny"Loveless Davis; one brother; one sister. Survivors include wife, Lydia Davis; son and daughter-in-law, Billy Glenn and Deborah Davis of Colorado Springs, Colo.; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Diana and Thomas Talley of Walland; stepdaughter, Debra Kriese of Maryville; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five sisters and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. --------------- Looks like the right one. This is the link to the archives search engine. If you search for Davis and restrict the date search to October 3, you should come up with the link to order the obituary. I looked in several other places, but was unable to find the article. Sorry! Peace, Greg At 10:51 AM 5/31/2010, you wrote: >Greg, >I am trying to retrieve a copy of the newspaper obituary for my >father, (Rufus) Glenn Davis, Maryville TN, Oct 1997. >I have been unable to find it. Mornin' Cuzzies, Great big beautiful day here.....not a cloud in the sky! For some reason I was never in the habit of doing anything special on Memorial Day......it was always just one of those lazy days where everyone caught up w/ themselves and had a little sigh of relief from the daily stuff. In December, 1941, when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, everyone and their dawg joined the military immediately. The cut off age as I remember was 40 yrs. old, so Daddy who was in his late 30's trotted downtown to sign up, and came back w/ the longest face. "They wouldn't take me"....w/ his lower lip out. They found out he was a geologist, a guy who goes out and tells folks where to drill for oil, and he was immediately "designated as too important to the war effort to fight." We shoulda all been very impressed w/ that, and very grateful, but that wasn't the case. We did get extra gasoline rationing stamps because he had to travel to and fro from the fields in South Texas. By the end of the war Texas was producing 90% of the world's oil. Can you imagine! We had our own little Saudi Arabia right here in the USA! Momma had brothers.....one right next to her in age, whom she claimed in her 90's was her best friend in all the world. He was a cat! Tall, good looking, funny, Peck's baaaad boy! When the war broke out, he'd been a private plane pilot and owner so the draft board snapped him up immediately, put him in the Army Air Corps which was our air force, and shipped him to Riverside, CA, where he taught pilots to fly the big bombers....the B-22's, 25's, 29's. On a training mission in '43 as he was the instructor, he and his crew were sabotaged and blown to bits.....a more often occurrence than anyone knew because we had people living among us who were blowing up these planes and not being announced to the public. So, hardly from 1943 on, did anyone in our family ever lift an eyebrow over Memorial Day.....that was just way too painful. Momma had another younger brother.....cute as a button! And, a horseman what was, what am! He and his string of polo ponies graduated from Princeton in '41 where he was Capt. of the Polo Team, and he was shipped off to Ft. Sill, OK, as a ROTC officer to train the mules who packed the supplies over the mountains in Italy. And, he, too was gone right before the war's end. So, Memorial Day was never anything in our family.....as you can imagine. But, Momma, every day that lived went to the hospitals at Ft. Sam which were several blocks away until 1949 to take fudge, flowers <we had huge gardenia bushes in the yard> and to chat w/ these poor boys lying in the hospitals w/ horrible maladies. She was so cheerful, and soooo beautiful.....had a great personality.....and she gathered in a whole bunch of little brothers she tended to, greeting them every morning, hugging them, kissing them, writing letters home for them, just being someone who was constant to them. I was very little at the time, but I look back on the experience as being simply amazing! So, I'm not very receptive to the memorials of Memorial Day.....my family gave their heart and soul to Memorial Day, and we don't pause much when it comes around. However, I do know there are many me's in the world and I say a little prayer for all of us. Now the rest of you have a nice, pleasant day out there! ( : And, I really mean that.....be oh so grateful for our veterans! Susan

William, I went back to the Maryville paper again and finally found an "archives" button. Fortunately their archives began in 1997. I could only view a portion but was able to buy a copy of the full obit knowing I had the right one. Thanks again. William, Thanks for your comment. I tried both. I could not find a link to archives on the Maryville on-line paper and the Knoxville paper says it only has archives back to 2005. Greg, I am trying to retrieve a copy of the newspaper obituary for my father, (Rufus) Glenn Davis, Maryville TN, Oct 1997. I have been unable to find it. But several websites "promise" success if I give them credit card info. I'm not eager to do that. I have tried the webroots search engine for archived Lovelace posts with no success. Do you have any suggestions? Mornin' Cuzzies, Gonna be a nice, quiet summery day in ole Houston town.....kinda fun because there are not too many people here. Families have headed out as they normally do on long week-ends to visit in the vast countryside around Houston. They tell me the rivers are full.....of water which has brought the people. Texans big on "tubing" on the rivers in the warm weather. Seems that w/ all the rain we've have, the tubers are out in full force because the rivers are up.....you know....climb on a big innertube and float down the river. Yeah, that's really big! o : Gotta an email from Da Kid in Cozumel.....checked out his digs on the net. Interesting as to what appeals to the different generations. I found all the places Momma and Daddy loved, I loved.....though I never got to go because it closed down, but their favorite place was Havana. This place where Da Kid is an island off the coast of the Yucatan, and it's a spa. I can see it maybe being a great place to snorkel.....though I'm scared to death of fish and know waaaaay too much abt. water to be too comfortable w/ that much of it. Ah, me.....different strokes for different folks. Da Kid returns to face a pressure cooker all-star baseball season where Houston battles all-comers in state, regional, and hopefully national championships, and he works w/ several teams.....now that activity is more mah style! ( : Hope thingees are peaceful, pleasant, and fun around you! ( : Buckette

Afternoon Cuzzies, For all of you heading outta town for the holiday, have a fun and safe trip! And, for those of you who plan to kick back and be somewhat lazy, enjoy yourselves w/ your friends and/or family. ( : Da Kid and the current squeeze are on their way to Cozemel. I'm sorta amused at his lack of Mexico info which he could have easily garnered from Ole Buckley who was raised in Mexico. The general rip off and "taking ways" in Mexico and lack of any kind of language skills is going to make the two of them sitting ducks in mah humble opinion. You don't think they asked us anything.....?......yew got that right! He asked me last night....a little late in the day.....abt. how we enjoyed Cozemel. Uh, we never have been in Cozemel as it's a tourista trap. I'd already ascertained from mah Mexico buds that Cozemel was safe at the moment.....Mexico needs the US dollars.....baaaaad! Ah mean......Moms, what do you do when you know you've raised a complete dumb ox?!!! Totally gorgeous, but brainless. o : Y'all go do your stuff.....enjoy! ( : Buckette
When I was on a farm I pulled the weeds from the good plants for better growth. When I became a father I helped mold his future to save him for heartbreak or misdirection. When I became a professor I weeded all over again to get the bad from the right knowledge. I have learned we all had a teacher or leader and that responsibility was soon ours to help the future. History is a great teacher and we forget it so soon. Mornin' Cuzzies, Lots of end of the school year stuff going on. We can always tell. We are close by the tennis courts and pool belonging to a country club, and the various groups of children are having parties, gatherings, etc. Music and DJ's we can hear from time to time.....not really loud, just sorta there. Boy! Is music mostly for the birds these days! o : It all reminds me of those great *excitement* times when I was their age. Nothing was more fun nor more looked forward to than the end of school, and what was to take place in the summer.....which was such a favorite time of mine. I did mah darndest to pack a summer as full as I could possibly get it! ( : Speaking of music, Willie Nelson cut his long pigtails......I'm sure one will end up in a museum, doncha suppose. o : And, speaking of blowing and going, some weather expert changed his prediction yesterday and announced this hurricane season was gonna be a dilly! Seems that El Nino, that high level, strong wind we've had the last couple of summers, is not going to be around to prevent the storms from coming in. Oh, whoopee tah! You know how I hate hurricanes! Ole Buckley and I would dearly love to live in Galveston, *the* most delightful little berg in the world on the Gulf Coast, were it not for the storms. Gonna be a nice day today. Y'all have one, too! ( : Buckette
Mornin' Cuzzies, Everytime the news comes on abt. the oil spill, Ole Buckley begins to agitate his petroleum engineering mind, saying, "Well, I don't know nothing about off shore wells, but I wonder if they've tried this." Then I'm taken thru some technical description of capping a blow out well on land, which though not a piece of cake is obviously much easier to deal with. My Daddy, a geologist, were he alive, would be doing the same thing. These oilmen.....they loooove working these wells! Never understood why.....that's some dirty and difficult work usually in weather waaaay too cold or waaaaay too hot! Now, the geologists and the engineers don't actually do the work.....they do the thinking and the telling. In the Houston Chronicle was a story about one of the 11 who was killed in the Gulf. "His girlfriend said he had been calling her before and after every shift --- unusual for him. She says he was frustrated with problems on the project. 'Everything that could go wrong was going wrong,' she said. 'Every time he'd call me, he'd say, 'This is a well from hell.' " Ah guess. o : Since the country continues to have a need for petroleum until the alternative energies are developed, one would think the safest places to drill which we have in abundance is on land.....which the special interests block. So, it forces drilling in the most difficult of places.....doesn't seem right bright. Also, seems as if decisions these days are based on who's pocket is fullest of the most money. Ah, me! In the meantime my heart breaks for the Louisianaians who are w/out a doubt the cutest people in the world! They have their own little culture down there, and have great fun and spirit! I have several little chums who live in New Orleans....some of the funniest stuff I receive thru email comes from a 90+ gal who can bang purdy good on a computer key board. ( : Y'all have a good one! Buckette
