    1. Re: [LL] Lucinda Loveless and Joel Underwood
    2. Jimmie Ryan
    3. Here's the family cuz Gregg: Register Report for Lucinda Loveless; daughter of Samuel and Anna Byers Lovelace (sister to my Seaborn Lovless, and Lou Ann's Barton). Appears I still have lots to do with this file, most of the work was done by the Morrow family, who sent me photos of Seaborn Underwood and some other Morrow relatives. Hope this help with the discussion, I still wonder why this Lovelace family as living in Cherokee country... and in many ways followed the "removal" of the Indian population westward. Cuz Jimmie In Hot SoCal Generation 1 1. Lucinda Loveless-1[1, 2] was born in 1803 in Cherokee Tribal Lands, Rabun, Georgia Country[2]. She died in 1884 in Cherokee, NC, USA[2]. Notes for Lucinda Loveless: General Notes: Nickname: Lucy Per Lou Ann Loveless Murphy: Birth maybe Rutherford County, North Carolina (according to some census records; but, information on others differ). I suspect Rutherford County is probably correct. Lucinda married Joel Underwood it is from the Underwood Indian Application to the Dawes Commission that Samuel and Anna Byers Lovelace is confirmed. I had long believed that Barton's parents to be Samuel and Anna/Arna/Amy (as her name varied on census records). Lucy named her first son Seaborn, who we believe is another sibling of David Wilson's and Jimmie Ryan's line. Notes for James C Vaughn: General Notes: Subject: [jacksongenealogy] Charles Vaughn and wife Mary Money. Native Blood! Date: 4/6/2006 10:21:30 A.M. Pacific Standard Time From: rebelredsun@yahoo.com Reply To: jacksongenealogy@yahoogroups.com Native American Vaughn/Vaughan family Charles Vaughan born 1827 Jackson County Alabama, died 1860 (Murdered) Franklin County TN. Charles was married to Mary Money. He is my 4th Great Grand Father and there is overwhelming evidence that there was Native American Blood in this family. I have photos of Charles's daughter Louisa E Vaughn and her daughter Lilly Pearl Parton Smith. They most certainly had Native Blood, the question, is where did it come from. I almost know for a fact that it did not come from the Money side. Mary Money is my 4th Great Grandmother as well as an aunt, her sister Louisa Money was married to another 4th Great Grandfather Sherrod Williams son of Harden Williams he was also murdered in Franklin County in 1860. Sherrod was indeed ½ Cherokee Indian I have substantial documentation proving that. It has been speculated that Charles's Mother was Milly Vaughan. I believe that it could have been his mother or likely his grandmother. I have also speculated that Charles's father may have been Eldridge Vaughn who married Polly Elliott (1/4 Cherokee). The reason why is Eldridge's children in 1840 have been accounted for except one son age 10-15. Eldridge's children that were minors were named on the 1854 Act of Congress Roll, Eldridge himself had been dead a number of years before this roll. It DID not name Charles as a son, but it also DID NOT name his daughter Milly on the roll either. Charles was already married and Milly was most probably married as well. Eldridge is listed on the Trail of Tears roll and numerous affidavits claim he was indeed Cherokee himself which explains why he was listed on the Trail of Tears roll. My research over the years seems to indicated that they did NOT list white people on this Roll or at least I can't find no white people on it. So it appears the Vaughn's had Native Blood themselves and do believe that Eldridge's Mother was Milly Vaughn. Milly was first listed on the Franklin County TN 1830 census as the head of her household along with 12 children. She was also listed as the head of her households on the 1840 and 1850 censuses as well. I have found a document linking Elizabeth Vaughn Sisk who married Daniel Sisk to Milly Vaughn and a William Vaughn, the document was interviews of Civil War soldiers. Milly and William was her mother and father. On the 1840 Jackson County census Eldridge is living beside Daniel Sisk. I believe they were brother and sister. I have read some posts on this website that claims that Austin Vaughn and Milly were husband and wife. Well the evidence proves otherwise. The Eldridge thing is just a theory but I still want to prove who Charles's father and possible mother were. James C Vaughn and Ella Underwood were married in 1894 in McMinn, TN, USA. They had the following children: Addie L Vaughn was born in Oct 1889 in McMinn, TN, USA. Charles Vaughn[10] was born in May 1895 in McMinn, TN, USA. Have I missed this all these years? Barton's sister was named Lucinda??? Geez... Could it be that she was named after her grandmother Lucy Watson Lovelace? This lends more credence to my idea that Lucy Green of Rutherford Co., NC, wife of Lewis Green, was the daughter of Benjamin (son of ol' Barton and uncle to Barton of GA) and Nancy Lovelace. Still trying to find evidence to back up my belief that Lewis and Nancy were siblings. I know from the church records that Lucy was asked to leave the fellowship of Walls Baptist Church in Rutherford Co. The reason was that their sister church, Sandy Run Baptist, had already booted Lewis and Lucy from the church because they were uncle and niece as well as husband and wife, and that Sandy Run was upset when Lucy was accepted into the fellowship at Walls. Lucy's father (that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!) Benjamin was a charter member of Walls, so (and this came from Cuzzin Doug Lovelace as conjecture) instead of booting her outright as they did with normal folk who ran askew of their rules, they politely asked her to withdraw from the church, which she did, and that settled the matter between Walls and Sandy Run. One interesting side note to this... Lewis Green is mentioned many times in the minute books of Walls. He was always contributing to the church when they needed a little cash to, say, buy blank books for the minutes or collect for the pastor's salary, but he was never mentioned as "brother"... he was always called "a friend". 3. I found Thomas Loveless in the 1896 Dawes rolls under Choctaw case #60. Sarah Loveless is also listed as a founding ancester for the Wayandot nation. She was kidnapped with 8 other Loveless' from Martin's Fort by French allied Shawnee and brutally marched to Canada on foot during the French/Indian war.Sarah was adopted by the Wayandot and after her rescue chose to stay with the tribe. She was given a tract of land in Ky.at a place then called "negroe's point" Do not know which "Thomas" this is,though. --- On Fri, 7/16/10, Brondak@aol.com <Brondak@aol.com> wrote: From: Brondak@aol.com <Brondak@aol.com> Subject: Re: [LL] Cherokee Blood To: lovelace@rootsweb.com Date: Friday, July 16, 2010, 11:34 AM Actually in   our family (Barton of GA and kids) there are more than one place where Cherokee blood comes in.   Like Anne said, in Abner's family there is the Townsend claim. I've talked with GA historians who do believe Anna Townsend was part Indian, although the "chief" claim is probably not accurate.   There are some interesting "family lore" type stories about how the Indian came about, but nothing has ever been proven because like Anne said there are no rolls to back it up. Then Barton's sister Lucinda married Joel Underwood of Cherokee descent.    This bloodline has been proven. Then, there's my grandfather who told me he had a Cherokee grandfather.    That would not be through the Loveless line, however.   I think it had to come from his mother who definitely did have an Indian look.   Again, no proof yet. 2. Ann Lusk
    3. The claim of Cherokee blood came from Nancy Jane Townsend Loveless who married Abner Powell Loveless. Nancy Jane was the daughter of Edward "Ned" Townsend and Anna Taylor Townsend. Anna was supposedly the daughter of Rutha and "Chief" Taylor. Abner Powell Loveless was the son of Barton and Isabelle Johnson Loveless. There were many Indian claims filed, but the descendants could not prove their ancestry. The reason given was the ancestors were never enrolled on any of the Cherokee Indian Rolls. Edward and Anna are buried at Tate, GA. If anyone is interested in any other information that I have, you may reply at luskad@bellsouth.net. Ann

    3. My LoveLess line goes back to Pulaski Co. Ky. since 1776,when it was all Virginia. It was always rumored that we had Native blood, but nobody dared to admit it due to persecution and fear. This was then the stronghold of the mighty Thunderbolt Cherokee People. It it rumored that they fell after a massacre at Ywahoo Falls when Franklinites trapped , raped and killed all women(mostly pregnant) ,children and elders of the nation. 110 people that I feel very close with died in a genicide attempt on Aug.10th 1810. (200 years ago this year) and 30 some years before the "trail of tears". Just wanted to share this info.I have a niece from my Sister that is a direct decendant of "Cornblossom" through the Rainwater family. Please consider sheding a Cherokee "tear" with me in rememberance this year on Aug.10 2010. 3. My Lovelace line also has oral history of Cherokee blood through my g-g-grandmother Isabelle Stephens Riddle. Her mother was Savannah Lovelace and her father was Alexander Stephens and they all lived in and around Falmouth Kentucky. Eastern Kentucky where they lived was part of the historical land of the Cherokee. 3. I sent an email to one of the Dna sites for Indian lines. I was politely directed to contact the the English side. Father has Choctaw per the stories his mom told. She used to visit her gmom on the reservation and she lived in a tepee. Dad had the high check bones also. The Indian sitedid not offer to look at any DNA info. FYI. For Ri lines I put my brother's DNA on the Germania site a received 3 matches on the 12 (?) local. That side also traces the ladies so I have sent to do my DNA and extend Lawrence out also to 67. She appeared in the yard one day and adopted my little dog as her mother. She was the greatest cat and one I allowed to have kittens, although some of her babies I had to have spayed. It was so much fun to watch her teach her babies to climb trees and stalk "game". We live in the country and not all of her litters survived. Critters would sometimes get some of them. So, these babies have *chosen* you and knew exactly what they were doing. Ah betcha they make exceptional pets! ( : Maybe more so than any others you have had. Buckette

People are agitated w/ the economy, the lack of jobs, and especially the Gulf's problems. We are all eating fish like it's going outta style.... 'cause it may be. o : The cat crew is flourishing, doing their thingees....which is mostly staying close by and napping. Fluff, new outdoor orphan cat, continues to arrive at mealtimes....natch. Has gotten to where I can pet him, and he enjoys it, but still hisses a bit. A little hissy cat doesn't bother me.....I've seen those before. o : Hope all is well w/ you and you are enjoying yourselves and your summer! Have a good one! Susan

My niece's two Mama cats had 5 apiece. I made the comment that since my cats are getting up there in years I might take a couple of them. The next day I had a call from my niece from work. She drives over 20 miles one way to work and two of those little kittens had somehow hitched a ride under her truck and ended up at work with her. She didn't even know it until someone she works with saw the kittens climbling around on the tires. It's a wonder they survived that trip. Anyway, she called and asked me if I was serious about the kittens because she had them with her (unplanned and all). She brought them to me when she got off and I'm now the proud owner of two more cats, and the little ones are full of daring-do. Lou Ann
