    1. [LL] [PML] Another Hanford (King's Co., CA) Lovelace story, Dec 1896
    2. Greg Lovelace
    3. [Greg's note: The T. Lovelace listed in the newspaper story below is probably Thomas J. Lovelace, older brother of the twins Lemuel and Manuel Lovelace, who we recently were discussing. They are all sons of Archibald. I checked the 1900 census for Hanford, and Thomas J. was listed there, with the occupation of "keeper cigars and tobacco", which I assume to mean he was a shopkeeper in a tobacco shop, which would fit in the story below. 2. Mornin' Cuzzies, I'm just not gonna tell you it's hot here....it is all over the country, but, it's also August....and we'll be thru it all shortly. The continuing saga w/ the Buckleys....Ole Buckley and Wm F. Buckley Jr's grandpa is holding forth as the Sheriff in wild Duval Co. in South Texas at the turn of the century and raises 3 boys, 2 girls. The boys end up at the University of Texas wherein they all get degrees, with Wm F. Sr. getting a law degree, and they all head for Mexico where they buy a ranch in Tampico which hits enormous oil production. Generally in Mexico if you have anything worthwhile, you can expect the gubmit to take it....as Mexico has generally been one of the more corrupt places on earth forever. And, after awhile, that's exactly what Mexico did.....but, not before all the children were raised in Tampico as Ole Buckley was. They all lived in beautiful homes with hot and cold running help to take care of them. Then Mexico confiscated all the oil production and with that the land, too. Wm F. Buckley, Sr., being a lawyer was too involved in the country's politics, and Mexico banned him for life and kicked him out of the country. So, as he left w/ his family, he settled in New York. The other two brothers eventually left Mexico and settled in both Houston and San Antonio. The sisters who never married never left Austin after the boys went to the University of Texas....they were affectionately called the Tias which is aunt in Spanish. More later....enjoy yourselves today! Buckette

    3. WOW cousin, you have quite the plate... I think you would make an excellent genealogist... and one of the exercise I loved the most before the wall of my heart died was Ti Chi... much like Yoga it is a very good way to keep fit without over doing it... I should try to find a class down here and maybe exercise what's left of this old heart. Cousin I wish you luck on weaning that child, it is difficult today and Maya sure sounds like she is receiving the lessons of life we all like to avoid, yet they come for a reason. 2. Mornin' Cuzzies, So, thingees justa hummin' right along here.....the weather is hotter than the hinges of hell, but I understand that's going everywhere. I hear a peacock down below.....the neighborhood has a collection of them whom we are all friends with.... Speaking of genealogy, I'll have to give you a rundown of Ole Buckley's since it's right interesting. He and Wm F. Buckley, Jr., founder of the National Review, shared the same grandfather, a definite Irishman. Ole Buckley always accused me of being a dour Brit w/ no sense of humor and I would return w/ calling him a "late comer" since his family showed up abt. 1870. Most of mine were in America in the 1600's. And, you think that bothered him? Naaawww..... Seems that Grandpa's father, a Catholic, left Ireland over religious freedom and came to Canada. As the grandfather grew up, he ended up in South Texas, due to health reasons so I am told, and became the first *non-gun toten* Sheriff of Duval County, famous for the the first LBJ election and the famous Box 13 incident. More later.....and have a good one! Buckette

    1. [LL] Monday night
    2. Greg Lovelace
    3. Hi, cuzzins Thought I'd try to pop in and pen a little note while Buckette is slogging away trying to get ready to move. It has been a busy summer here in the SC Lowcountry. I have taken, for my health's sake, to trying some sort of exercise at the gym most days, and have even taken up a once-a-week yoga practice... called "Gentle and Restorative" ...in an effort to increase my fairly poor flexibility. I hit the big Six-oh in April and am unready by any means to check out. So I've been averaging about 4 miles on my workouts, some on the elliptical machine and some on the track. I've amazed myself lately in being able to run two miles straight on the track. So, even though my weight is only down about 10 pounds from its max in January, I feel a lot better, except at night after exercising! The family, as families do, continues on. Both girls are still here in Charleston. Older daughter Sara keeps plugging away at her retail job, unwilling to try to get out of that rut and into something making more money. She seems perfectly satisfied that we make her car payment, her insurance payment, and her college loan payment. Hey, why not? I'd be perfectly satisffied too! We have *got* to wean that child soon. Younger daughter Maya has hit a really bad patch lately. She finally did break up with "the boy" after 5 years, but not before co-signing a note for a car. So here's what all happened: She broke up and moved out into our house. She moved in with a couple of wackos in an apartment in a dubious section of town. "The boy" let the insurance on the car lapse, and both his and Maya's drivers licenses were revoked. It cost her $400 to get back. She lost her job and was on a depression that kept her from trying to find another. She totaled her car. Her apartment was broken into, and she had several things taken, including $200. So it has really been a bad summer for her. She did get a new job a couple weeks ago, and now has bought another car. She is preparing to move in with us again and hopefully will be gettting her life somewhat together again. Susan continues to stay with her job, even though it is forever changing and keeping her from knowing exactly what her job is. There is a new director at the lab, and her direction has become really unclear. Susan is teaching a course at College of Charleston this fall, and is hoping to forge a relationship with the college in the hope of maybe teaching there full-time. Me? I keep doing the same ol' stuff, just different days. It's actually OK, but I really don't like the stress. I'd love to retire again and try to be a professional genealogist. Fat chance of that, though. I'm still trying to figure out what my market would be. But I have joined the National Genealogical Society and I hope soon to take their home study course. This would be a first step in trying to get a certification. I've been thinking about that for a long time. Maybe this time I'll finally follow through on it. So, that's about it from here. Aside from this being the hottest summer I have ever seen, all is going well. Hope you are all doing well, too :-) Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg

    3. Hang in there Greg. Your Maya seems to attract bad karma (or is that the wrong people?) like my Kaylynn does. It could be worse though. My daughter's newest "friend" invited her over for a drink, we think he slipped something like a date-rape drug in it and she ended up tazered and in jail for "being on drugs" instead of taken to a hospital after she was found half-dressed, barefoot, and covered in bruises and blood, totally incoherent/hysterical with no memory of the hours after she left my house. 3. Hello Denise, To clarify this: as far as I can tell, Thomas Robey married four women: 1. Mary Berry -- no children 2. Sarah Elizabeth NALLEY d. 1740 -- about 10? children 3. Sarah SMALLWOOD, d. 1760 -- about 6 children, including [Nancy] Ann ROBEY, the woman who would go on to marry Elias LOVELACE, the son of Thomas ROBEY's 4th wife, Eleanor WILCOXON 4. Eleanor WILCOXON, d. 1776/7 (Is she the widow of John Baptist LOVELACE?) Or is this Eleanor RUHY? At least this is how I understand things played out. It's kind of complex and I'm not sure how well this has been documented. The 67 marker test alows you to get close matches in the four or five previous generations. In the case of the Maryland group (my group) or the Virginia group, the current documentation on these two groups will probably tell you everything that the 67 marker test will tell you. In the case of the New York, Rhode Island, and New Jersey groups, there are not enough 37 markers tests completed to make the upgrade to the 67 marker test worth while. If your case is like Thomas R., where there is no documentation and the 25/37 marker results puts him in the Virginia group, then an upgrade to the 67 marker test is warrented That's my two cents for what it is worth. 3. Cindy I am waiting for my brother's 67 marker test to be completed almost patiently. With all the several years I have been part of the list, not that long really, my interest grew to see what story the test would show. Also waiting for my Mtdna to be completed that the testing place has indicated they are working on. That one will be interesting to see also but will be listed under the Germania group from the family lines listed at the labs site. It is very interesting what science is able to do and so many people on thi list know so much and are willing to share. Thank you. Betsy of the RI group

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Weatherman sez we are looking at the hottest week-end for the summer..... gonna be 98. The humidity is Houston just wrecks those not from here.... biggest complaint I've always heard abt. this town, and it never used to bother me much. But, I will say.....I look forward to being out of it and in dryer San Antonio. I want to tell you that all your sweet notes meant so much to me and Da Kid, and we so appreciated them. This was a toughie.... And, also for those of you who have bank accounts where you are the only one on the account.....be sure to name a beneficiary to that account, even if you don't plan on checking out for years. Sho do make it simplier. Even I didn't know that, and I'm pretty wired for stuff like that. So, it's Sattiday.....play day. Get after it! ( : Buckette
