    1. [LL] Lucy Lovelace - Rabun Co GA
    2. Hey Cuzzies: I have found another Lucy Lovelace in Rabun Co GA and don't know who she is. She supposedly was born in Rabun Co ca 1875 and she married William Alford Hopper also born ca 1875. I have no further info. Does anyone out there have access to 1870 census records to check and she if there was a Lovelace family back in Rabun Co in 1870? GA Barton's sibs went through there, but much earlier than that and I don't think any went back, but wouldn't swear to anything. Many thanks Lou Ann

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Well, wouldn't you know it! Friday, the 13th! Well, said Scarlette here, I'm just gonna step over that one..... Now, the really biggie Little League Tournament is going to hold forth in Williamsport, PA, again, and the hot shot Houston team from Pearland just won the biggie Texas state championship, so they'll be going. You know, a Houston team wins it all about every 3 or 4 years. So, we'll all be pulling for Pearland. Of course, the heat continues to be horrific.....not telling you what you don't know. Abt. a week to go 'til school starts around here, and abt. 2 weeks to go to get thru August. Have a good one! ( : Buckette

    3. Thank you for taking the time David. Much appreciated. My prayers are with you and your family during these times. James W Lovelace Kit 28975 is my second cousin both exact on the 12, 25 and 37 Markers. I with kit number 118154 for the 67 markers believe that James would also be identical if tested for 67 Markers thus I see no need for him to do so unless he would like to just to have the Certificate. His Grandfather and my Father were brothers. As I have mentioned many times our ancestors listed themselves as Irish on all census. It will be interesting to see where Charles and Lawrence results take the group. Thanks again. Wesley G. My brother is Lawrence G Loveless and I am very patiently (not really :)) waiting for his test to be completed. 3. Thanks cousin, for being distracted you sure can write a paper, my prayers to your wife. Cousin Jimmie -----Original Message----- From: lovelace-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:lovelace-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of David Wilson Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2010 12:24 AM To: lovelace@rootsweb.com Subject: [LL] Some comments on the RI/NY line based on DNA My apologies to all for being so quiet. Greg asked me some time ago to comment on the new DNA results that have come in for a member of the RI/NY group, but I have just been unable to focus on the matter. Let me try to summarize where we are. Eight members of the Lovelxxx DNA Project are members of the RI/NY group. Their DNA haplotypes are all quite similar, but there is a little bit of variation that points to some possible branching distinctions. Interpreting the data is a little difficult because not all of the individuals in this group tested the same number of markers. These results can be seen on results page of the public Lovelxxx website hosted by Family Tree DNA: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/lovelace/default.aspx?/publicwebsite.asp x=&section=yresults This table is always up to date; results are posted to it automatically as they are determined by the FTDNA lab. The eight individuals represented in this table are the following, identified by kit number and name: (out of numerical order because this is the way then appear in the FTDNA results table) 148905 Robt. Steele Lovelace, IV 24397 Richard Eugene Loveless Jr. 132407 Lawrence G. Loveless 27606 Sherman Lovelace 20027 Richard L. Lovelace 28975 James W. Lovelace 118154 Wesley G. Lovelace 142948 William Robert Lovelace All eight of these individuals are identical on the first 12 markers, so no distinctions can be drawn there. No distinctions can be drawn on markers 38-67 because so far we have results for these markers only for 118154. Results are expected for these markers for 132407 within a month. Because these last 30 markers in the 67 marker test are considered "slow-moving" markers for the most part, I would not be surprised if the pending results for 132407 are found to match the marker values for 118154 exactly. We will see. If it turns out that there is a difference on one marker, it will not be possible to tell which of the two is the ancestral value and which is the derived value. Should this situation occur, we would need a "tiebreaker test" of the most distantly related RI/NY individual we can determine to see which value is likelier to be the ancestral value. In our current state of knowledge, then, we can look only at differences in markers 13-37 to see if we can draw some lineage distinctions in this group. As it happens, there is one likely distinction: both 28975 and 118154 share the value 16 at DYS576; all other tested individuals (which is to say everyone but 148905 and 24397, who tested only the first 12 markers) have the value 15. The earliest known ancestor of 28975 is Jeremiah Loveless of NY, b. 1743; the EKA of 118154 is John Loveless of Rhode Island, b. abt 1700. Other group distinctions are harder to make, because remaining mutations are singletons within the entire group. For example, 142948 has DYS458=18; all others who tested that marker show 17. The higher value is clearly a marker for the line of William Robert Lovelace, but we cannot know if the mutation occurred first in him, his father, his grandfather, or any particular Lovelxxx back to the most recent common ancestor he shares with any other member of the RI/NY group. Similarly, 20027 has DYS576=18, where all others have 17; 132407 has DYS607=13 and CDYa=36 where all others have 14 and 37 respectively; and 27606 has DYS570=18 and DYS442=13 where all the others have 17 and 12 respectively. In the data set available to us, the distinctions between haplotypes are mostly revealed by mutations in markers 26-37. The most useful thing that could be done to find potential additional groupings would be for 148905 and 24397 to upgrade their results to 37 markers. There is no guarantee that these tests would find anything, but negative matches can be as helpful as positive matches in determining the shape of descendancy structures. I have tried to keep the -less and -lace spellings straight here, but my eyes are so blurry this evening I can't guarantee that I have done so. My apologies if I have misspelled anyone's name. I also hope I haven't made any typos in the kit numbers. I'll try to answer any questions that anyone may have, but I can't promise to do so quickly. Some of you know that my wife has advanced Alzheimer's, and I am pretty much a 24/7 caregiver. 2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Well, Da Kid and the Significant Squeeze are in Telluride, CO, great ski resort, for a few days with her two children who are jr. high age. He's been sending me pictures from there w/ his IPod, and it's a fascinating looking place, all nestled in a little valley in the midst of some very tall mountains <13,000 elev.> while Telluride is at 9,000 ft. I said I bet there are not too many older folks up there at all.... and Da Kid said 'tis true. Evidentally it's beyond hot and a very "in" place. They are staying in her father's cabin....abt. 1700 sq. ft. and on the market for sale at $2 mil plus. Boy! Did someone ever do a marketing number in selling it as a resort! Though in excellent physical condition, Da Kid says abt 8 in the evening, he is totally wiped out from the altitude. I can imagine! They go down the mountains on a hr. shuttle bus ride to Montrose where they will fly out tomorrow for Houston. Y'all have a good one! ( : Buckette

    2. David Wilson
    3. My apologies to Cindy Cary. I overlooked her father's DNA haplotype when I posted my previous message. There are in fact nine members of the RI/NY group in the Lovelxxx DNA project, not eight. Add: 177475 Charles William Loveless (37 markers tested) The interesting thing about this haplotype is that at every marker it has the most common value for the entire RI/NY group. That makes this haplotype the Modal Haplotype (and quite possibly the founder haplotype) for the RI/NY group. When we see haplotypes that differ from this one, it is because a mutation has occurred in the line leading from the founder to the tested individual who shows the mutation. As always, it is tough to pick the generation in which a single mutation occurred. It might have happened first in the tested individual himself, or it may have happened in the first generation after the most recent common ancestor, or in any generation in between. Cindy, apologies once again. Your father's haplotype is quite valuable as a baseline to compare other RI/NY haplotypes against. David Wilson

    1. [LL] Some comments on the RI/NY line based on DNA
    2. David Wilson
    3. My apologies to all for being so quiet. On those occasions when I have some time, I can't always find the focus I need to deal with questions of family history. David Wilson Maryland: Benjamin/Barton the Horse Thief/etc.

    1. [LL] Question for Jack
    2. Hi Jack, I have a question for you about your family's land in OK. You told me they took place in the run. Lo and behold, I have learned a piece of history I never knew since I've been working on this book. There were two runs that opened Cleveland County (yes, I knew there were other runs other places, but I didn't know there were two right here). Anyhow, Needmore, where your family was is in the part of the county that was opened in the second run. I can't believe I never knew that before, but I've discovered I'm not the only one who didn't. What happened was that Cleveland County was created by that first run and we abutted Indian Territory. After the run the government doled out the Indian land in 160 acre allotments to all the Indian inhabitants of that area and there was land left, so they opened up six more miles for settlement and had a second run selling those pieces of land for $1.25 an acre to the people who claimed them. That's the area where your family was. But my question is, do you have any info as to what section their land was in? I'm working on the Needmore story and your family is going to be mentioned as one of the early settlers of that area. Do you know when they sold out and went to CA? As I recall we talked about this once and it seems to me that it was real close to the time my grandpa's brother made that same trek. By being in that second run, your folks settled here in 1891. My Loveless family got here in 1896 and lived about four miles straight down the road from Needmore. They weren't in any runs. They bought their land from people who got it in the run and gave up on it. Thanks in advance Lou Ann

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, General Monday morn routine w/ a list longer than my arm to do. I'll just step in for a minute here. The PGA and golf is doing a sagging number.....Tiger has gone totally to hell, and Mickelson couldn't step up to the plate. Oh, me. The Oilers are out at it...in the heat.....not even for that kind of $ would they get me out there! Looking to open against Indianapolis. Hmmm.....lots of luck, boys! Reporters are actually out investigating stories these days, as they used to, telling us what is really going on rather that being spoon fed by the corporates what they think we ought to know. One has found that schools must spend millions on tutors that many say don't help. My, my..... So, --------->off to do thingees. Y'all have a good one! Susan

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, It's definitely the land of the heat.....everywhere. Read yesterday where they still think this is going to be a very heavy hurricane season, maybe between 8 and 12 storms. They are gonna have to line up in a hurry because we are whipping through August. Uncharacteristically we might all welcome one that wasn't a monster just to break the heat. Ah, me! Weather makes us straaaange folks..... o : It's the saga of the Lincoln town car.....this is the last year Lincoln plans to manufacture any. I've driven those little booger bears for 40 years, and you can't pry them away right now from their owners. Anyhoo, I'm on the trail like a bloodhound. ( : And, I have them standing in line for the one I'm currently driving which is 15 years old for goodness sakes! Would I buy a new one? No way! I'm an ole livestock breeder.....put that much money in something that doesn't reproduce? I couldn't do it! Most of the people driving the freeways in Houston bought their driver's license on the street corner and can't begin to read the road signs....and I want to mix it up w/ them in an expensive car? Don't think so! And, the po little chulins.....school's gonna start around here in a couple of weeks. They don't have a good time in school like we used to.....we all looooved school! ( : Y'all have a good one! I plan to..... Buckette

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, So, we continue on w/ the saga of the Buckley family....and we left off whereas the fathers of Wm F. Buckley, Jr., and Ole Buckley were working a ranch in Tampico, Mexico, w/ oiyle spewing every- where. W.F. Buckley, Sr., was tossed outta Mexico for life, and he gathered up his family and moved to New York wherein his children went to school in Europe. The younger two brothers stayed in Mexico and sent their children to the east coast to prep schools as the children reached high school....including Ole Buckley who went to Lawrenceville School in New Jersey. And, that's how Ole Buckley and Wm F., Jr., are lst cuzzies and the grandsons of the lst non-gun totin' sheriff of Duval Co. in South Texas. There was an old, beautiful Spanish style villa in San Antonio that Ole Buckley's uncle lived in when he came to the US. The uncle's daughter had a lovely wedding in the yard one year, and all the cuzzies came to the home for piano lessons every week. After the war in 1946, my family bought the home and I was raised in this same house as my family owned it for over 30 years. o : I probably met Ole Buckley when I was a teenager and he was in his 20's and was the biggie bachelor for the next 20+ years in Houston, various other cities, and Argentina wherein he was a petroleum engineer for their biggest water flood production of oil, mainly because he was bi-lingual. He and his brothers were big U of Texas grads, wherein the other Buckleys graduated from Yale. So, y'all have a good one today.....I'm off to take Mr. Kat to the vet. He's feeling a little poorly. Buckette

    3. Hi, folks And hello to Rita Marie Lovelace <rmlovelace@charter.net> Welcome to the group, Rita. When you get comfortable with us, let us know who you're researching, and we'll do our best to help you connect. In the meantime, feel free to dig in our archives, and be sure to visit our website at <http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lovelace>http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lovelace Our online library of Lovelxxx documents, narratives, and pictures is an ongoing project to which we add as time allows. You can access it right now by clicking on the "Documents" button on the left margin of the main page. And our y-chromosome DNA study has proven very successful in unravelling the confusion surrounding several of the colonial American Lovelace and Loveless families. The results are posted both on the FamilyTreeDNA website (<http://www.familytreedna.com/public/lovelace/>http://www.familytreedna.com/public/lovelace/) and on our own DNA website (<http://dna.satmel.com/results.html>http://dna.satmel.com/results.html) Take a look! We now also have a companion website on MyFamily.com.
