    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, It's a TGIF day, and a good one for hurricane Karl is not going to hit our mainland, but go into the poor coastline of Mexico along the Gulf where it just disrupts those people unmercifully for they build their villages along the coastline a lot differently than we do and are very vulnerable to high water and wind damage. There's a whooping cough alert spreading around.....very bad for young children and babies. Don't be flying on planes w/ either. Check w/ your doctors for vaccines....not that dangerous for adults. That, TB, and other things we haven't had in the country are only heightened by our current immigration problems. Having lived on the border for 12 yrs. I'm well aware that TB is rampant in Mexico, for instance. Two banks in Houston giving me fits. They are not honoring previous agreements w/ Ole Buckley. And, I understand this, too, is very common. Double check on your accounts and especially your credit cards to see just who they are issued to. Don't rely on what they tell you....demand copies of the paperwork. Gretta Van Sustern commented the other night as an aside, which floored me, that many, many had a lot of negative things to say about their banks. I could certainly join that club! Wells Fargo and Compass Banks here in Houston a mess! My bank in San Antonio which is privately owned are princes. Have a good one! ( : Buckette

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Spent most of yesterday morn in Probate Court. Now, if that isn't a fiasco! A lot of attys are doing very well, thank you, from fees to deal w/ mirads of uncontested wills in this country.....not to mention the busy work that keeps judges from being idle. And, the new courtroom in the new courtroom bldg. is an elaborate monument to our taxpayer dollar! Inlaid wood designs, etc. etc. Those of us there swear to this and that. Believe many elected lawmakers have done the same and you see where that got us.....on both sides, folks.... this is not partisan politics. It's an anti-legislators attitude for decades. o : Not only that, there are no inheritance taxes, so why have to itemize the worth of an estate? Just doesn't make much sense. Except me thinks the Feds want to know where all the guns and gold are in the country because they are coming after both.....and being a Texan, they will get both out of my cold, dead hands! ( : Have a good one today! ( : Susan

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, So, the Houston Texans have it all! It's abt. time. This town's been waiting w/ baited breath for a winner for over 30 yrs. I was a Love ya, Blue, Bum Phillips, Oilers Go radical fan sitting in the dome every single Sunday! The dumb owner ruined it all for us, and half the town turned away from pro football here, including me. So, I'm thrilled for the current fans! Following a winning team is a complete trip! Have a new pet. Oh, yes. There are a couple of big thingees for water for the critters on the deck, and the cutest little frog has homesteaded one of them. Justa sitting in the water every evening like he's got good sense. Cats nor coons drinking don't faze the little booger bear! o : Gotta run to piles of stacks over mah head to tend to.....it's unending! Y'all have a good one! ( : Buckette

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Finally hit that bump in the road.....and guess what it was! Football! Can you imagine! I watched Texas play yesterday by mah sef and it was just no fun atall. I knew Da Kid would have great probs, but I sure didn't expect to.....and the Texans have a huge game today that's gonna be more of the same. I just don't know all the stories and the ins and outs that I would hear during the games. I had mah own personal game commentator, and didn't even know it! Just goes to show.....relish everything around you all the time. You never know how long or short it's gonna be there. The weather is still here.....semi nice this morn in the low '80's. Little white tuffs of clouds against a blue, blue sky.....however, there are 4 round bundles on radar, yes....count them....out there in the waters coming our way. o : Got a Mr. Kat right under my foot so he can be rubbed from time to time..... Y'all have a good one! Buckette

    1. [LL] What a week
    2. S B
    3. Well, my MIL passed away on Monday. Though very sudden, we knew it was coming, but even then you never are really prepared, eh? (She was diagnosed with lung cancer the end of July, though never smoked a day in her life.) My husband is the oldest of the children, so naturally, all the final arrangements fell to him. It's been a nightmare week to say the least. MIL lived in CA the last 5 years of her life, we are all in VA. Trying to do everything by phone because we used up all our time traveling out there last month to set up home hospice etc. Of course, she didn't want to discuss any wishes that she had for burial, and didn't even have a will though we begged her to have one drawn up. I used to work in Elder Law, so I know how important that piece of paper is, and even with all my begging, couldn't get her to plan ahead. All I can say is, if you want people to have nice thoughts about you at the end, don't leave them a dreadful mess to clean up. PLEASE respect your family enough to have a simple will drawn up, even if you leave it all to the cat! Just do it. (Ha, Nike would be proud!) These days, you can even make one online and take it to the bank to be notarized! Husband is the most even-tempered gentle personality and I can't say I have ever seen him frazzled, until this week. He said he's ready to move and not give anyone the forwarding address - that he's had it! Exhausted in VA. -Sarah

    2. Afternoon Cuzzies, We have survived the onslaught of the residue of Hermine, tropical storm of some reknown to Texas, anyway, who has brought cooler temps ( : and much needed rain....of course, too much in some places. But, the little booger bear roared thru in a hurry which prevented a huge deluge in any one place. And, I notice on the national weather bureau radar that there are three more *somethings* out there <and, not as yet designated> rolling our way off the African coast. Gonna be a busy September Ah guess. Well, off to do.....just reporting abt. the storm here in Texas.....not that your day couldn't have gone w/out your knowing..... o : Have a good one! Buckette

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Hope y'all have a grand day doing your Labor Day thing, whatever that is.....It's not a holiday that had much meaning for me other than I started back to school the next day which I could not wait for! I'd had the fun and run of the summer and was ready to resume the fun and run of the school halls! ( : We never went to school before Labor Day.....which went into being as a convenience for the faculty.....I never thought that was particularly right as it messed w/ family times. And, heads up.....Texas has a tropical storm coming right at it, and bringing lots of rain which we can use. We had been scheduled for rain today after noon anyway......we need it and it cools thingees off. Gonna make it rough for those driving back home after the break. Have a fun or peaceful and relaxing day.....whichever you have planned.... Buckette

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, Great, big beautiful day here.....not killing heat....one can actually breathe outside. Not a cloud in the sky though rain is supposed to be in the area. So, Da Kid and I went thru a rain storm yesterday and came out on the other side to clear skies. ( : The opening game of the Texas Longhorn football season has been a together family number for over 30 years and we had to go it w/out the captain of our team, Ole Buckley. We laughed abt how he would complain abt. the coaches, and, too, we were grateful he wasn't having to fight a body that didn't want to play anymore. We ended the day by going to one of OB's favorite Mexican restaurants and ate a ton of nochos, as we told Da Kid's squeeze some of the crazy things he'd do or say. A very peaceful and pleasurable way of getting thru some of life's rough spots. In the meantime I've had to hire an atty to deal w/ two banks, and probate still hasn't come and gone almost 6 weeks later which means all funds are frozen at this point. Now, that would cut many people's throats for sure, but this ole gal is resourceful and has landed on her feet. I will tell you the story when it's over so that you can hopefully avoid the mess that we are in.....due to nothing that was done or not done by any member of the family....it's due strictly to complete incompetence. So, have a great day! ( : Buckette

    3. Just getting back from a circut trip from Tx to Canada by way of Mi. Then to Oh to visit with the Author Wanda Brunsteter and the Amish in Berlin area. If anyone has a chance and you might sometime check Beholt in Berlin. Tells of the story of the Amish Menenites and Anabaptist history in a painting 360 degrees like the Omni. It is great or check out the Warthers Museum. The Museum is from a whole life's carving of trains. It is very informing. The cousin that sent info on The Freedome Baptist, if I remember the name correctly may also like to see Beholt as there was history on them also. Betsy Ri group

    2. Mornin' Cuzzies, It's mighty quiet on the net this morn.....maybe everyone is outside....the temps here are a lovely 78, not normally something to cheer abt, but considering what the heat has been, we'll take it!....gladly! ( : Gratefully, Labor Day is not something the Buckleys made a big deal about..... in fact, I had to endure the 'big hoss race in Ruidoso' withdrawal for years later on Labor Days. So, I'm not gonna miss any biggie celebration this year. Just had to go out on the deck and interrupt a little fisticuffs between Blackie and Gray. Blackie tends to play a little rough from time to time, and Gray gets his feelings hurt over it.....Gray gives Black a bath every morning like Black was his kitten. Nutty cats! o : So, I'm off to do endless chores.....seems they will be on going for several months, and I'm already tired of it. Picked up mah fancy dan car yesterday.....she sho is purdy! My chum who took me and I had lunch at a greasy spoon in the big Richmond, Texas.....yums!....sho was good, and the place was packed! o : Have a good one! Buckette

    3. This sounds more like a cistern than an outhouse. They were used to collect water that ran off the roof of a house, and were underground. Water could be pumped into a wash room within the house by a hand pump and could be used to wash up, but not to drink. We had one under the house when I was growing up-before we had running water in the house.
