We flew into the Phoenix airport Friday evening and have spent the last couple days exploring and hiking in the desert. So far it has been an exceptional vacation, dining on authentic Mexican food and trying to soak up some of the nature and culture of this place. It is different from any place I have ever been, which is one reason I really wanted to make the trip with my wife Susan. Unfortunately, she had to begin working today, so I took off to the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert, AZ, for a morning of watching waterfowl and trying to get a handle on some of the bird life around this area of the southwest. > > > > Now I'm going to try to go through some of my pictures of people and documents from my genealogy collection and try to weed out duplicates. I know we have guys from both those lines who have done DNA, so if you could get one of the ones you mentioned to do it, it could really help. Thanks Lou Ann
Lou Ann; Ah, you see my problem, I am coming up with what you have, conflicting information. That is why the DNA question. I have a suitcase full of papers and after going through all of them nothing concrete, they do have the date of Feb. 13, 1854 for the birth of James Moses Lovelace who married Nancy Ann Lockhart and a marriage certificate for them. Lawrence repeated mentioned in his letters of inquiry all over the country that his grandfather James Moses was Illiterate, and everything he knew was from what his grandfather had told him. He was told James Moses came from Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky. Left home because of not getting along with a step parent. Lawrence said he was in some kind of a home in Kentucky between 1870 and 1880 but was taken out by someone to work at logging in Washington County, Indiana and that he stayed there for the rest of his life. You are correct the age is all over the place. Lawrence said that was because his grandfather did not read or write so didn't know how to write down what the correct date was or didn't even know for sure himself. Sheila
Sheila, I think I have the James Moses you referred to. If this is the right one, the line does not trace to John Thomas "Good Tom" Lovelace, but to a different John who also is from the MD group and whose father we have not pinned down yet. Jack, jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the line the way I have it. John b 1748 MD d 1823/24 Campbell Co KY m Milla/Milly b VA d KY I have eight children for John and Milley son James b ca 1785/86 VA d aft 1850 Pendleton Co KY m Mary "Polly" Arvin b ca 1785 OH their son Henry b ca 1822 with wife Liza (no further info) or wife Hannah Hutton ....not sure which was mother of James James Moses b Jun 14, 1848 d May , 1941 Washington Co IN m Nancy Anna Lockhart I have 5 children for them...sons James William, Emmet L and Cecil Lee One of those three would have been the father of Lawrence Lee. Emmett is the only one I have marriage info for, but I don't have his children. I do have that he was buried in Salem, Washington Co IN. One note on the above info. I do have a notation on Henry that he needs to be proven, so I won't 100% guarantee the accuracy of this. This branch of Lovelaces is our lister Jack Lovelace's and he may be able to add something. By the way, the Hazel you mentioned is a brother to James who married Mary "Polly" Arvin. I think DNA testing would be wonderful here. It could help us determine if James indeed belongs to the John & Milly line or to "Good Tom". And, FYI, there is a James M b Feb 13, 1854 in Pulaski Co KY who is of the "Good Tom" line. And as I look more closely at these two Jameses, I truly am not sure whick one of them is the one married to Nancy Lockhart in IN. Census records on the James in Indiana have his birthdate all over the map, anywhere from 1849 to 1853 or so. Lou Ann
Lou Ann Thanks, I have been going through the archives, a very informative list. I will be sending in some questions I am sure. I am the County Coordinator for three sites on INGenWeb so have a lot of things I am trying to do, plus my mother is having some health issues (she is 89) and I have to take care of her. Sheila

She gave me a suitcase full of documents she and her husband Lawrence Lee Lovelace had traveled around and collected, plus many letters they had written to try and unravel her husbands family. He was born in 1928 in Salem Washington County, Indiana, but his father & grandfather told him that his grandfather came from Pulaski County, Kentucky. His grandfathers name was James M (Moses) Loveless born about 1854 in Pulaski County. He left home because of not getting along with a step mother, and ended up in Washington County, where he lived the rest of his life. I think I have him back to John Thomas (Good Tom) Lovelace. Lou Ann & all; Let me clarify a little here. I think I have him back to "Good Tom" far from set in concrete. If that line has been tested, then getting one of the boys tested would make it a hit. If it did not prove out I have been following the wrong trail. Also I do have a Lovelace line by marriage from Pendleton County, Kentucky in my own family. One of my ancestors Mary Ann "Polly" Swinford married a Hazel Lovelace. Sheila

Can someone jump in here on the DNA? Has someone from this line been tested? My memory says yes and he belongs to MD which does support my theory, but I may be dreaming that one. Lou Ann

Dear Cousin, My step father died in 2001. There was a mesothelioma claim going on and those idiots who went after the companies that did the deed are blocking the will from being probated. So, for 9 long years, I have had to take care of all the money, be accountable for it, make sure it was properly invested, and can't touch a penny of it. The attorney does nothing and never contacts me. Once I year I call and they say that their hands are tied because of the big law firm handling the mesothelioma settlements. This is going to be hung up for years and years because those companies have gone into and out of bankruptcy. If I opt for new attorney, I'll have to pay the first one, then the retainer for the new one. Either way, it's a whole lot of heart ache and so I understand some of what you're saying. I worked for a bank for years and I can't tell you how my heart ached for the widows who would come in with their husband's stocks and bonds and not have the proper papers and would leave in tears. Our bank did everything they could to help out and I just don't understand the cold hearted folks you are dealing with. Do you want all of us Lovelace's to make picket signs and go down to their corporate offices and picket with you? We could even create mean looks upon our faces and snarl a little. Just let us know. A while back David Wilson had mentioned we were awaiting results of two that had taken the 67 Markers and 37 Markers. I was just inquiring if they had made a match. Wesley G.
