Hello, cuzzins! Getting ready to sit down to the year-end drudgery of installing TurboTax and slogging through everything to see if we have to pay any unexpected bills before April 15. We ended up owing something like $3500 last year... really threw us for a loop. I'm hoping that doesn't repeat itself this year! I'm also preparing to process my registration for the 2011 National Genealogy Society convention next May in Charleston. I know I keep reminding everyone, and I know you're probably getting really tired of hearing about it. But I think it would be really great to have a Lovelace List meeting at the same time here in Charleston. It's a great city, and this year it is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the beginning of "The Great Unpleasantness" or "The War of Northern Aggression" as it is called in the South, or the War Between the States or the Civil War, as it is called in the history books (although there is nothing "civil" about any war!). They're already running newspaper articles about the history of the beginnings of the war, precipitated by the signing of the Articles of Secession in Charleston and other cities in December in 1860. The NGS Convention is going to have many sessions related to genealogical research into the time period of the Civil War, so not only will it be a great meeting, we all know that Lovelxxx families were heavily involved, and since we've never had a List "meeting" before, it would be a great opportunity! If you have questions about it, just send me an email. We had a wonderful Christmas here. We got the tail end of the snowstorm, so we had some nice snowfall yessterday, but no accumulation to speak of. It was very pretty, though. And, of course, it has been cold as blazes, which we're just not used to here in the SC Lowcountry. Susan's mother was supposed to drive down yesterday from Raleigh, but they got 6-8" of snow there, and since she hasn't been feeling well, she has stayed up there trapped in the snow. We're going to drive up to get her tomorrow, and Susan will drive her car back with her and her dog. We'll have an extended visit for New Years. My mom continues her long, slow decline into old age. Her spirits are great, and her mind is okay, with only an occasional brief trip into la-la-land every so often. I saw her last weekend, and we had a great visit. All in all, things are going well. We all have jobs that, while they're not ideal, we can deal with and earn the money necessary for us to live well. And for that, I'm extremely thankful, because I know there are so many out there without. I hope you all have a wonderful remainder of the holiday season. I'm off tomorrow, but back to work on Wednesday, with another day off Jan. 3. Then it's a good while unitl the next holiday. Y'all take care! Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg
Mornin' Cuzzies, The entire net has never been as quiet as it was yesterday. It was if everyonehad fallen in a heap under the torn wrappings, managled bows, turkey scraps, and scattered dressing to the complete disbelief that it was all over for yet anotheryear. Not a peep outta anyone anywhere! I had a delightful Saturday, spent at Da Kid's squeeze's house, w/ her mother, brother, two children, her sister, beau, and designer baby who was unknownsperm donated from a bank, the children's daddy and his second wife.....andan assortment of dawgs who knew and loved everyone. Quite a little group andsuch a loving experience. Perched on the second wife's shoulder for 3 hourswas Jello, exotic little bird of some sort who never moved and nibbled food offeringsfrom time to time. Every once in awhile the baby would screech and scream oversomething, and the whole group would burst into singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star"because she likes singing and would quit crying. The whole day was a trip and Ienjoyed it very much! And, now I have to continue to address the many, many things I have to do whichall seem very complicated and endless.....ah, me! Have a good one! Buckette
Merry Christmas and Feliz Navidad from out West. Google and Bing say White Christmas relates back to pagan traditions of the winter solstice celebrated in December (like holly, evergreens, a yule log, etc.). It seems logical that it would symbolize peace and joy because who could fight in several feet of snow and for centuries armies had winter truces. > From: soupcan5@yadtel.net > To: lovelace@rootsweb.com > Date: Sat, 25 Dec 2010 17:14:43 -0500 > Subject: Re: [LL] Sat Dec 25, 2010 > > Where did the White Christmas thing start? Mornin' Cuzzies, If everybody and their dawg was on the streets on Wednesday, then allof their out of town guests and relatives joined them yesterday. It wastotally wall to wall! I just hope all the stuff benefitted our po, sick littleeconomy so that more can find jobs around here. As long as our gubmitgonna strip the private sector of monies, there ain't gonna be no jobs. But,it doesn't seem like anyone reads their Economics 101.....they just listen tothe latest hoorah, and hoorah it is. We gonna have a little cold snap and a bit of rain.....not enough to upsetSanta's reindeer. Hope everyone gets all their little thingees done so you can kick back andenjoy this evening. Something really magical about Christmas Eve! Havea good one! Buckette
Happy Christmas Eve, Cuzzins! What a treat to have a day off, and then two more the beginning of next week! It's a luxury we don't often have in the Lovelace house in the SC Lowcountry. It is cold here, even by my former standards. The weather prognosticators are hinting at the possibility of a snowflake or two on Sunday, mixed in with a cold rain beginning tomorrow night. We have lost many of our warm-weather plants due to the cold... out kumquat bush got hit really hard when we were in Arizona... it may be beyond help now, as are our lemon trees. But our grapefruit trees made it through OK, which is wierd. We're busy getting cooking done for tonight's traditional open-faced sandwich supper... this time we're using grilled tuna salad, home-made of course, and I just finished grilling the fish. We're also cooking in advance for tomorrow's dinner. Both Maya and Sara will be here tomorrow, so it's turkey and trimmings for dinner. We'll be having pancakes with fresh strawberries, kiwi, and pomegranate seeds after opening out stockings and before the big unwrapping event. Susan's mom will be coming down, hopefully on Sunday. So there are many preparations under way. Hope you and yours have a wonderful Christmas. We will definitely do so! Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg
http://christmas.cottagecharm.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=66 We are in Katy, Texas! This link is to our property we own in old town Katy. It is a historic home (1905) that we used to run as a Tea Room. My husband and I both have full time jobs and are just unable to keep that business going so we are looking for a tenant but over the past 5 years, we are known as "the house of lights" around Katy. We do this as a benefit for Katy Christian Ministries. If you come by, please bring a canned good to leave out on the table. Tonight, my family and I will be there handing out hot chocolate to everyone that comes by (7pm-9pm). We normally hand out around 200 cups on Christmas Eve. It has become a family tradition that we look forward to each year. My kids now range in age from 15-25. We have 4. If you come by, let me know that you are part of the Lovelace line. I decended from John Baptist Lovelace...his son Elias...his son Andrew Sr....his son William H...his daughter Cynthia Ann. Cynthia Ann married Mathew Freeman Senter and their daughter Hettie Lovelace Senter married Franklin Ellis Ford. Hettie and Franklin where my great grandparents. Mornin' Cuzzies, I've been busier than I can say grace over trying to tie up some year endbidness stuff. It takes a long time because I have to ask twice the questionsa normal person does because my learning curve is soooo steep! Also, during the holidays I want to straighten out this message mess wherethere are no paragraphs and words run together. Rootsweb just does not likemy format. Traffic in Houston is horrific.....people who have not had their cars out of theirdriveways in weeks are all on the streets this week. Congress has simply gone nuts the last two weeks.....I think the Americanpeople are getting a little sick of their passing bills they haven't even read. Aaaand, I hear more and more stories of Texas ranchers on the border movingtheir families off their land and into nearby towns because of the invasion of drugrunners. Are we ever going to return to normal? And, btw, what is normal anymore? Keep the Christmas spirit anyway! Have a good one! Buckette
Cuz, I read you every time you write but don't reply to much to the group because I don't have anything to add. I pray this will be a good season for you and I have prayed for your loss this year. But I believe everything is for a reason. My wife and I have had an eventful year. We moved back to the Columbus area to be near our son due to our failing heath. (I have had 12 operations since 2006 because of an operation that went bad), My family was told three times on different occassions I would not made it through the night. But I did by God's grace and doctors that would not quit trying. Since I have written 4 books including my Autobiography which includes some of my line. All are on Amazon and Appointment with Destiny (Autobiography) will be added soon since it has just been released. My, my, I just wanted to say Hello and wish you a merry Christmas.
