I will only be a member until the end of March, so I hope we can connect soon. My father was an only child, so I don't know much of the family. I don't know anything of Lillian's descendents, and would love to add them to my tree, and touch base with you. My dad is still around, so if you are of his generation, I am sure he would love to know I have found you. The only info I have on Lillian, is that she was once married to Alva Buckland. I have done extensive research, old school style, prior to computers, and Edna, Otto's wife was really good about keeping records, and I have all her genealogy jottings. I hope we can work together and make some progress. It's so fun, and addicting! > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We never knew this woman until her death. She had retired to Kilmarnock a few years ago. She was an avid genealogist and the collection consists primarily of books on the Eastern Shore (Accomack & Northampton Counties), quite a bit on Maryland, and Northern Virginia (Loudoun, Fairfax and Prince William Counties, some Alexandria.) I have catalogued most of these new books, and if you are looking for families in those areas, you might find something new. The books run the gamut from published abstracts of marriages, guardianships, wills, court orders, county histories, church histories, and family histories. Her primary focus was the ROBEY FAMILY. Also in the collection were several books on Native American research, quarterly genealogical magazines, etc. It was by far the largest single collection of new material we've received all at one time of BOOKS. (The rival to this was the collection of the late Doris Davison, a well-known NN genealogist. That is still being processed! Most of this was her personal papers and client reports. A great part of that collection was merged into our "Virginia Family Files" loose papers. =========== Meanwhile, at the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society in Montross, we recently were donated the entire collection of the late Mary Rita Miller, author of the book I often cite here, _Place Names of the Northern Neck_. Originally, her son said he wanted to donate her working papers for the book which were index cards. When it arrived, however, it was much, much, much more than that! She was also a linguist, and an avid gardener. There are many original dissertations in this collection about language and the history of place names. This is boxes and boxes of material. As for the six or so boxes dealing with the Northern Neck of Virginia Club, I will have to see if that group would like to have their old meeting minutes back in their possession. I rather suspect they will. =========== So, please keep checking both the MBW and NNVHS catalogs to see what is new. (The NNVHS catalog is still under construction but well over 700 books are now entered. In case you have not bookmarked the web sites for the catalogs, they are: Mary Ball Washington Museum & Library http://mbwm.org/search.asp Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society http://www.librarything.com/catalog/NNVHS =========== Remember. MBW will do research WITHIN THE COLLECTION. Their fees and policy are explained on the web site. Research at NNVHS generally requires an on site visit. Happy Hunting! 3. These obituaries were found in the Bible of Ella Frances Lovelace Millikan. Ella's mother, Selena Margaret, and Mary Susan were sisters. Obit** * Mary Susan Cobb Lewallen (Daughter of William C. Cobb & Catherine Wray Cobb)* ** ** *Died Jan. 24th, 1902 at the home of her son-in-law, David Parsons, Mrs. Mary Lewallen aged 74 yrs. And 3 months. She leaves four children, O. C. and William Lewallan of Corso, Mrs. Mattie Parsons of this neighborhood and Charles Lewallen of Montgomery City. She had been a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church ever since she was 16 yers. Old. While she was quiet and unassuming, her life was that of an exemplary Chirstian. She had the love and esteem of all who knew her. After funeral services conducted by her pastor, Rev. Condiff her remains were laid to rest in the Old Liberty Cemetery. X. Q. Q.* William Harvey Lewallen Obit At Rest William Harvey Lewallen, son of William and Mary S. Lewallen, was born November 21, 1853, near Corso, Mo., where he spent his life and where he died January 21, 1920, age 66 years and two months. He was married to Mary Reeds, who preceded him to the great beyond just twelve days before. To this union were born four children—one son Arthur R., and three daughters, Saide, the oldest, dying in infancy; Mrs. Maud Fanning of Corso, and Lorah at home, and two grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his departure two brothers and one sister, namely; O. C. Lewallen and Mrs. Mattie Parsons of Corso, and C. E. Lewallen of Montgomery City. He was converted when quite young under the ministry of Rev. Taylor Bernard and united with the Olney Presbyterian church where he lived a consistant Christian life. He was later elected elder in that church. He was apparently in good health when his companion died, but seemed to stricken with grief and worry over her long illness and death that he broke down and heart failure took him away. Weep not, dear children, father and mother are united on the other shore where there is no sickness and death, where there is not goodbyes; they will be watching and waiting for loved ones left behind. We cannot understand why we had to give them up so close together, but some day, some time, we will know and understand, “For now we see through a glass, darkly: but when face to face: Now I know ??part: but then shall I know even as also I am known.” Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Campbell, after which the body was laid to rest by the side of his wife in New Liberty cemetery to await the resurrection morn. –X PERRY LEWALLEN’S FUNERAL The body of Perry Lewallen, who died Tuesday of last week at his home in Norman, Neb., arrived here Saturday morning and was taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. Lewallen. The funeral occurred Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock conducted by Rev. Franc. Mitchell, and the remains were buried in the Montgomery City cemetery. Miss Iva Lewallen of Hastings, Neb., a sister of Mr. Lewallen, accompanied the body to this city, and will spend a few days at the Lewallen home before returning to Hastings. Mr. Lewallen’s wife and children at Norman all have the influenza, but we are glad to state they are improving. Among those from a distance who attended Perry Lewallen’s funeral here Saturday afternoon were the following; Miss Iva Lewallen, Hastings, Neb.; Mrs. R. W. Critchlow and Mrs. Clarence French, Oskaloosa, Ia,; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sheppard, St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. B. Reid and Mrs. Dave Parsons and son, Lincoln county; Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [LL] Mary Ola Millikan
    2. Donna Price
    3. Yes, Mary Ola was the only daughter of David Theodric Rushing Millikan and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Morrow. David was the brother of George Rufus Millikan. George was married three times, 1st to Emma R. Moser, 2nd to Dora Black and 3rd to Ella Frances Lovelace, daughter of Isaac N. and Selena Margaret Cobb Lovelace. Ella was my great grandmother. Through DNA testing, it has been documented Calvin Pickard Lovelace, another son of Barnett and brother to Isaac, is in the main Maryland group. The family of Selena Margaret Cobb, wife of Isaac N., mother to Ella Frances and James Campbell, has been identified as Henry Cobb The Elder of Barnstable, MA. A descendant of Noah and Phoebe Lovelace Cobb participated in the Cobb DNA project as well as a descendant of Henry Cobb and his first wife, Elizabeth Tennison. Henry married a second time to Mary Lovelace. Both Mary and Phoebe were sisters of Barnett and daughters of ZR and Lucy Lovelace. And, (my miracle with the old trunk in the attic) Emiline Priscilla Walker, mother of George Rufus and David, has been documented, and is in Group 2 of the Walker DNA project. On a trip to Jefferson County, TN, I found the name and address of Mr. Odell Walker, also researching James Walker of Jefferson County. When we returned home, I contacted Mr. Walker and asked if he would be willing to participate in the Walker DNA project. He was more than willing. He is not online - his grandson did all the communicating with Family Tree. We exchanged information and in one phone conversation, he thought he remembered a postcard written by one of the Millikan boys. Not too long after our conversation, I received a packet with not only the post card, but four letters written from the Millikans to his grandfather and great aunt. In those letters, Emiline, one sister and three brothers were identified as brothers and sisters and children of James. This is significant as James Walker was married three times, twice before the 1850 census. He identified his children from his 'other wives' simply as his 'other children' in his will. I'm now working on James Webster and the Benjamin Elmore connection, still trying to document Lucy, wife of ZR, as the Lucy Ann, daughter of James Webster of Maryland and Prince William County. A person has been posting Maryland records online dealing with Webster, Adams, Dorset, Waters, Harris and others. He/she is now following the families from Maryland into the Northern Neck of Virginia. I have other obits from the Bible and will post them to the Lovelace list as well as the Montgomery County, MO list. Donna PS Samuel Walker, ancestor of Elizabeth Orr married to Barnett H. Lovelace, has been identified as being in Group 33 of the Walker DNA Project. The last time I checked, there were no exact matches for the Orr descendant. - Show quoted text -

    1. [LL] [PML] Ella Frances Lovelace Millikan mentioned in message board post
    2. Greg Lovelace
    3. [Greg's note: This post mentions Ella Frances Lovelace Millikan, that her Bible contained the newspaper clipping reporting the death of young Mary Ola Millikan. I found Ella Frances Millikan in the 1900 census of Loutre Township, Montgomery Co., MO. She was married to George Millikan, as is confirmed by several files on WorldConnect. He was George Rufus Millikan. One of the WorldConnect files shows that Ella was the daughter of Isaac N. and Salena Cobb Lovelace, and shows Isaac as the son of Barnett H. and Elizabeth Orr Lovelace of Caswell Co., NC. In a 2007 post in our archives, Donna Price confirms the link between Isaac N. and Barnett, and shows Barnett as the son of Zachariah Rhodam Lovelace. Ella Frances Lovelace is shown to have been born in 1859 in Pike Co., MO. I do find her in the 1860 census in the home of Isaac N. and Selena Lovelace in Louisiana Post Office, Buffalo Twp., Pike Co., MO. So this confirms Ella's link to Zachariah Rhodam. Donna, can you further confirm this? Now the WorldConnect file shows George Millikan, Ella's husband, b. 1851 in Crittendon Co., KY. A search for George in the WorldConnect files shows him as the son of William Barton Millikan, who also had a son Theodorich Millikan who was married to Sarah E. Morrow. The file shows Theodorich and Sarah with two children, the younger being Mary O. Millikan, who was born 5 Nov 1882 and died 7 Oct 1892. 3. Hi, Merilee As far as I can tell, no one was able to identify any of the participants in the birthday party. It would be great if you were able to compare the pictures you have with this one and put some names to some of those many faces in the photo. If you were able to do so, then maybe some of the other descendants of these folks could be identified in the photo, too. Looking forward to hearing what you come up with! John and Jane have a hose full of kids, raning from James W. age 49 to Ann E. who is listed as married at age 34. The 1880 census of Providence, Fairfax Co., VA, shows Henry, age 17, as the son of Jno. and Elizabeth J. with siblings James W.,Thomas J. and his wife Frances, Ann E., and Nixon, along with a couple others. So this is definitely the right family. John was born in VA, as were his parents. He is listed as age 50. And this is as far back as I can go right now. I looked in the archives and found many mentions of the son Nixon, but I can;t easily take the family any further back. Anybody else got anything? Peace, Part of the Tree, Greg
